Sunday Funnies March 23rd, 2014

            Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. If it is Sunday then it is time for ‘Sunday Funnies’ here at The Other Shoe! This week I have a short of Alexander looking for some food! We last purchased some food, for Alex, at Christmas. These bags generally last about three months.

That means that Alex is down to the dregs of his food supply. Long gone are the crunchy corn meal squares he so enjoys. He is out of hazelnuts and down to peanuts and the little tiny bits of food left at the bottom of the bag. Unfortunately, for Alexander, Allen and I are quite bereft of funds to purchase a new bag of ‘Macaw Parrot Food –  Kaytee’.

Yes, fancy rats do not like that darn simple rat food they sell in pet stores. When you buy a fancy rat they have dined, most of their lives, on a kind of maple bar. It is brownish, a square or rectangle and hard and solid. If you think it looks unappetizing, that is because it IS! It has taken me years of experimentation, and much wasted money on food they refused to eat, to discover what they do like.

Now, you must remove the red peppers! These peppers are put into the food for parrots, to aid in digestion. However, in rats they can cause severe bleeding! They have an anticoagulant effect in rats, leaving them bleeding from their eyes, ears and mouth. You simply must check the entire package prior to feeding your rat.

Now, on with the show! Today we have Alexander R Hanning searching for any tidbits of his favorite foods, left in the package.
