My Journey to LA – August 9th, 2016

Danny at Disneyland August 9th, 2016

Danny at Disneyland August 9th, 2016

.

Welcome, My Dear Shoevians, to ‘Journey to LA –August 9th, 2106’ right here at ‘The Other Shoe’! It is great to be back here writing and publishing on my blog. The Democratic Primary is now over so I can feel free to write and post what I really feel with (less) fear of recriminations. Secretary Hillary Clinton is the ‘Democratic Party Nominee for President’ and (at this moment in time) she is walloping the (dubious and nefarious) Donald ‘Thieving’ Trump by double digits in most polls. However, that is not the thrust of today’s article.

.

.

Today I am here to relay the events, and videos, of my most recent trip form (my home in) Orange County all the way into Rolling Hills Estates/Rancho Palos Verdes of Los Angeles. It is a long and, often, arduous journey for myself and Allen (my caregiver/roommate).  For your viewing enjoyment, today, I have several ALL NEW pictures. These images were taken at Disneyland and in Rancho Palos Verdes during my journey. As well, there will be four All New Videos for your viewing pleasure. I hope that all of you, My Dear Shoevians, enjoy reading this article and viewing these videos and images as much as I did providing them to you!

.

.

The video, above, was taken in the parking lot of the building I live in just prior to the OCTA Access bus arrived to transport me to Disneyland. For those of you, My Dear Shoevians, those are new to this site (and my ‘Journey to LA’ series? Once each, and every three months, I make a very long (and tiresome… often upsetting) journey from here in Orange County (Huntington Beach to be exact) all the way (past Long Beach and San Pedro) into Los Angeles. My final destination is the Promenade on the Peninsula. In the image, below, you can get a good idea of the journey I make… via Public Transportation (for the Disabled). I start from the right side of the image where you see ‘Westminster’ and travel all the way to the left side of the image to the red marked above ‘Dr. Gorlick’ in Rolling Hills Estates.

.

.

Now some of you, My Dear Shoevians, might (reasonably) wondering “Why?” do I make this long and tiring journey every three months, and with good reason. Dr. Gorlick is my doctor. I started under his care back in 2005, when I was approved for Medicare (finally) and was able to pick my own doctor. Since I have been under his care I have; undergone surgery (Cervical Fusion) on my neck, fell victim to a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack) (a type of mini-stroke), developed ‘Left Foot Drop’, become confined to a power chair, been diagnosed with Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, undergone chemotherapy, and (most recently) been diagnosed with (now) “Severe Degenerative Disc Disease” “Severe Spinal Stenosis” “Multiple Herniated Discs” and (now) the discovery that the degenerative disc disease is now in my lumber spine, too.

.

.

Through it all Dr. Gorlick has ‘had my back’! When I come to him needing a power chair, he helps me get all sorts of paperwork to a prosthetics doctor (even though that… nut case REFUSED to SUBMIT the paperwork) Dr. Gorlick HELPED! When I discovered a lump under my chin, he examined it and referred me to a doctor that helped diagnose my cancer. When I was diagnosed with cancer Dr. Gorlick (again) gave me the name of an Oncologist that he personally knew!   When I come to him and I am unable to bear the level of pain, he helps by increasing my pain medications… time and time again!

.

.

THAT is “Why?” I make this (often arduous) journey ever three months! I am very fortunate to have found a doctor as experienced… as knowledgeable… as compassionate… as caring and considerate as Dr. Gorlick that accepts Medicare! I was lucky to have found him, some eleven years ago, and I am fortunate that he continues my care. Now back to the journey, itself. My Dear Shoevians, I have to be honest (as I am in all things) and tell you that this journey? Well, this journey was one of the most uneventful… quickest and most enjoyable journeys of all that I have made to Rolling Hills Estates in the past five years!

.

(Danny at Dr. Gorlick’s Office August 9th, 2016)

(Danny at Dr. Gorlick’s Office August 9th, 2016)

.

For five years I have sat at Disneyland, dropped off by OCTA Access, to be picked up my LA Access. Every single time we have made, at least one, stop during our journey into L.A. However, not this time! This time the driver was a Trainee and there was a supervisor in the back with Allen. There were no pickups. There were no drop-offs! We traveled, quickly, from Disneyland to Rolling Hills Estates and made it there in about an hour! That gave Allen, and myself, time to pick up a little lunch at the Subway in the mall next to where Dr. Gorlick’s office is located.

.

.

As well, on the ride back there was only one person to drop off, and then it was a quick ride into Orange County. This time I even convinced the driver to use the Carpool Lane (I know… you would think that they all would want to use the carpool lane!!… Not so!) The drive home was quick and uneventful and that left us (Allen and I) the time to make the Final Video that you see above! My Dear Shoevians, that video was one of the very best I (feel) I have ever made! It was fun! It was spontaneous! And, I enjoyed making the video.

.

With that, My Dear Shoevians, I will bring this edition of ‘Journey to LA’ to a close. Oh, yeah, Dr. Gorlick improved my pain medications! So, YES! YES, I will be working towards writing and publishing on a regular basis, again.

.

I would like to express my deep appreciation to you, My Dear Shoevians, for your interest in my blog(s), my writing, my stories and hope that you drop by often and SHARE my blog and articles (via your social media) so that others can enjoy, too!

.

THANK YOU!

.

Adieu!

Status Update – March 17th, 2016

Danny February 2016 - Leaving for L.A.

                                                    Danny February 2016 – Leaving for L.A.

Welcome back, My Dear Shoevians, to The Other Shoe. I am dropping by, today, just to keep all of you, My Dear Shoevians, up to date on the status of my; writing, blog and publishing. Today, at about 1PM, I dropped off my ‘Writing Computer’ (the computer that I have all my writing, publishing, and animation software… on) at HB Computerz for the replacement of the motherboard. I am holding my breath… keeping my fingers crossed… and thankful that (prior) to dropping it off I backed-up all my documents and pictures.

.

This is a very tense and trying time, my Dear Shoevians, for this budding writer/publisher. This is THE computer that I wrote; ALL 675+ articles that are The Other Shoe, every page of ‘The Horror in Smithville’ (my teen-preteen scare novel), and every single line of ‘The Adventures of Princess Nadia’ (including the creation of Rattopia back in 2009). This computer holds a very special place in my writing zeitgeist and I am hoping beyond hope that it is returned to me working and ready for another ten years of writing.

.

Well, that is the end of this Status Update and I am hoping that I get the computer back, soon, so that I can continue my writing. I am very happy that, at this point, I have written and published THREE articles, this week. I am going to try to write… with my tablet… or a ‘barrowed’ computer, over the weekend. If not, just as soon as I have my computer back, I will push to get off another status update, and return to my regular writing schedule.

.

Thank you, all, for your; kindness, understanding, and support while I am working to reestablish my blog… and my writing and publishing endeavors.

.

Thank you!

.

Back in the Saddle AGAIN!

Danny Hanning Nov. 11th, 2015

.

Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to The Other Shoe. With just about one month passing, I am here to announce that (barring any unforeseen circumstances) I will be returning to writing and publishing here at The Other Shoe. I have obtained a minimal internet connection ( a DSLconnection) here in my home… and I now have a home ‘landline’ telephone, too. All of my closest friends? Contact me via Facebook, Email or call me and I will be happy to share this new landline telephone number.

.

My health has not improved. Matter of fact, it has taken a turn for the worse, and my neck pain is at its greatest since my head injury, nearly thirty years ago. However, it was my lack of a reliableinternet connection that prevented me from keeping my publishing schedule, it was not my pain. For the past five years I have written, and published, to help keep my mind off of my cervical pain.

.

Since I wrote last I have; attended an appointment with my primary care physician, my oncologist and my all-new provider of orthotics. The crux of; I have been fitted for a brand new (and greatly advanced and redesigned) brace for my ‘left-foot-drop’, my pain medications have been increased and I have opted to not proceed with chemo or radiation therapy during the holidays!

.

I will revisit my oncologist, and the potential for treatment, during the first quarter of next year. As well, I am working to find a brand new neurosurgeon. Whereas I do not believe that there is a viablesurgery to address my degenerative neurological disease state, I am open to starting a new relationship with a new neurosurgeon… with limitations.

.

Over the next two weeks I hope to write and publish the following:

.

  • Article Revealing the CIVIL (and possible CRIMINAL) PROSECUTION of Donald Trump over his‘Trump University’.
  • Any/ALL news out of the Curiosity rover and Mars Space Observatory projects at NASA/JPL.
  • NEWEST images from; Hubble, New Horizons, and Chandra spacecraft.

.

As well, I (hope) to provide at least one article addressing the rampant (and weekly) ‘Mass Shootings’ here in America. I know that I have a fair amount of readers, especially in Texas, that are ardent supporters of mass gun ownership… I am not of that mindset.

.

Finally, My Dear Shoevians, I would like to ask for your kindness and support in one small matter. Over the coming weeks… would you please notify any; friends, family, and acquaintances that Dannyis ‘Back in the Saddle Again!’

.

Adieu!
.

Thank you!

Leaving The Other Shoe???

Daniel Hannning

.

Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to The Other Shoe. Today is Thursday November 5th, 2015 and at midnight, tonight, I will loose my broadband internet connection… for good. My Dear Shoeviansthis is the event that has hung over my head these past several months. Yes, my health is compromised and I am physically unable to maintain my previous writing/publishing schedule. However, though my desire to write and publish has never left me, I just couldn’t bring myself to committing to something that will end… tonight.

.

For the past five years my broadband internet connection was provided by Clear. Clear is merging with Sprint, as of 12:01 tonight, and ending my five year relationship with the only broadband 4G LTE internet in my area. Living, as I do, in a ‘non-apartment’ building (due to insufficient income –S.S.D., I am unable to ‘qualify’ for an apartment) I have limited ‘options’. The building comes with basic cable (included) and for that reason Time/Warner will not provide my own internet connection.

.

Until, unless, I can find and secure a broadband internet connection, My Dear Shoevians, this will likely be my last posting here at The Other Shoe. After five years and more than 650 articles; spanning the depth and breadth of topics and subject matter from NASA/JPL Mars Exploration from Opportunity/Spirit to the current Curiosity rover, to cooking/baking, American politics to international treaties and affairs. My Dear Shoevians I have worked to entertain and enlighten you, as an audience, these past five years.

.

It is my ardent hope that, within the coming weeks/months, I find another broadband internet connection. I am not only loosing my internet voice… I am loosing; my ability to play on line games (like World of Warcraft, Aion, Rift, and FPS games), Netflix, Vudu, and all but limited (email and browsing) internet availability. YES! My Dear Shoevians, this IS the reason for my emotional distance and depression. My connection to the internet has been a connection to; friends, family, Facebook, games, my BLOGS… life outside the four walls I live.

.

Finally, I would like to say “Thank you!” to all of you, My Dear Shoevians, for years and years of readership. Without witch, I could have never made it through my battles. So, for now, I hope this isnot “Good-Bye” but merely… until we meet again.

.

Adieu!

.

Thank you!

.

Repairs, Thanks, Props, and My Return!

Danny Hanning

.

Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to The Other Shoe. In my last article, the very first since my computer problem, I expressed my “Deep and Heartfelt Thanks” to all of you, My Dear Shoevians, that donated to my ‘Computer Repair Fund’. Today, my reason for writing is twofold. First, I wanted to share the proof that the donations I accepted actually did go for repairing my ‘writing computer’ (my HP DV 9500t CTO Notebook Computer). So, I present to you, My Dear Shoevians, scans of the receipts from H.B. Computerz.

.

Scan of Original Receipt for Repairs

(Scan of Original Receipt for Repairs)

.

As I explained, on Facebook and via; personal messages, emails and phone calls Amir (the owner ofH.B. Computerz) quoted me a price of:

.

  • $195.00 for motherboard repair )parts included)
  • $130.00 for screen repair (parts included)

.

As it turned out, the computer could be (simply) repaired and there was no need to replace the motherboard. However, the monitor did need to be replaced, and Amir gave me a great deal.

.

.

Second, I wanted to take the time (right here, today) to express my genuine gratitude to Amir, Samand all the staff at H.B. Computerz. I could tell that Amir, and all his technical staff, took their work very seriously and treated every customer with respect. Each and every time that I called I was helped expeditiously and professionally. I have to tell you, My Dear Shoevians, that that has become a rarity in America. This level of service and professionalism is (now) the exception and not the rule. That is unfortunate, and the major reason that I have taken the time to write this article of“Thanks!”. As well, I wanted to make sure that all of you, My Dear Shoevians, that live here in Southern California (mostly South L.A. and North Orange county) that there is a great place to have your computer work preformed.

.

.

Now, H.B. Computerz is not limited to just repairing computers. Rather than just mention all the services that they provide, here is a listing from their web site (you can go to their web site by clicking on their name anywhere in this article, or on any of the stickers and/or business cards).

.

.

As you can see, MY Dear Shoevians, if you have a computer or data need, either personal of corporate, H.B. Computerz has you covered. Just to make sure that I have made my point:

.

Amir, THANK YOU for your complete and professional service on my laptop computer. THANK YOU!

.

.

I hope that Amir, Sam and all the technical support and sales personnel have a chance to see this article. Their service has been very important to me, as it has given me back my Voice on the Internet! With my four blog locations:

.

The Other Shoe Primary Blog Location

The Other Shoe’s Oldest Blog Location

The Other Shoe Secondary Location

The Other Shoe Most Recent Blog Location

.

I will be expressing my “THANKS!” and I will be posting free advertisement for the next month… or so. It is just my way for showing my genuine gratitude for your professional work, and the great dealyou gave me on the repairs. You can rest assured that any and all computer work and repairs I need in the future? I will be taking my business to H.B. Computerz.

.

That brings us to the end of this article for today, October 15th, 2015. Now… for a little blog business.

.

My Dear Shoevians, I wanted to take a moment and touch base with all of you. When I posted my article of heartfelt thanks to those of you, My Dear Shoevians, that kindly donated to my ‘Writing Computer Repair Fund’. I indicated that I would be returning to a regular publishing schedule as soon as was possible. I would like to express my sincere apology for not reaching that goal, as of yet.

.

I am not too sure as to why I have encountered the physical problems I have… since the return of my computer. I know that last; Friday, Saturday and Sunday I spent ‘out and about’ taking care of errands (like picking up the repaired computer, purchasing a new UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) to protect my newly repaired computer, cleaning my writing desk, cleaning my power chair, and doing nine loads of laundry.

.

What ever the reason, I awoke Monday morning with both my hands swollen up like two ‘hand shaped’ balloons. I could barely move my fingers, and there was an extreme amount of pain; in my hands, in my neck, and in my lower back. This difficulty has been prohibitive, with regards to reaching my goal of writing and publishing on a regular schedule. However, my hands are improving and I hope to meet this schedule starting this next week.

.

I thank you for your understanding and support. I have continued to do my research for images and news on; Curiosity on Mars, the New Horizons Flight, and more and more images from the Hubble Space Telescope. Let me assure you, My Dear Shoevians, that there IS plenty of new and inspiring material for me to share. Just as soon as my pain subsides, my hands return to their regular size and I have full dexterity back? I will begin the work of returning to a regular writing and publishing schedule. Hang in there!

.

Adieu!

.

Thank you!

.

Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to The Other Shoe. It has been some time since my last post, but I am back and I am ready to write. However, first things first!

.

The people who have made the repair of my ‘Writing Computer’ possible, well are just too numerous to name here today. Thousands responded with emails and messages of; support, kindness, understanding and caring. These voices reached out and gave me strength. Yet, out of themasses a handful stood out and lent a helping hand. I would be gravely remiss if I did not give them a mention here, today.

.

The following men have reached outside their own lives, and through acts of generosity bridged the miles between us and touched the life of another human being in a way that will never be forgotten.

.

Ian Cottier

Ian Cottier

(Ian Cottier)

.

Ian Cottier – I met Ian through Facebook, and my life has been graced by his friendship. When I wrote of my problems with my computer, Ian did not hesitate to dig deep and bridge the ocean between us with this generosity. “Thank you very much, Ian!”

.

William Booth

William Booth

(Kinky Friedman & William Booth on the right)

.

William Booth – Bill and I meet though mutual friends, and our mutual love of the Great State of Texas. Bill has returned to Texas, I have stayed here in California. Though thousands of miles separate us physically, our love of ‘good governance’, and a shared dream of a better and more prosperous America (for all) bridge the physical world that separates us. When Bill learned of myneed for assistance getting my writing computer repaired. Bill did not hesitate to reach out and help.“Thank you, Bill!”

.

Jack Wright

Jack Wright

(Jack Wright)

.

Jack Wright – Of all the friends I have listed here, Jack and I have just met. We are both friends of William, and when we found ourselves standing together against intransigence and intolerance a friendship was forged. I was very much surprised by Jack’s generosity, for we have only known each other a short time. It just goes to show you, that a friend that reaches out, when you are in need, is a friend in deed! “Thank you, Jack!”

.

Jason Kleppinger

Jason Kleppinger

(Jason Kleppinger)

.

Jason Kleppinger – Though last in mentions, here today, Jason has been my friend the longest. I meet Jason back in the late 90’s. As with all the friends I have shared here, today. I met Jason via the internet. Funny that all the friends and benefactors, mentioned here today, I have never met any of them in person! Jason reached out all the way from Iowa, just to lend me a helping hand. “Thank you, Jason!”

.

I must admit that I am deeply moved by the generosity of the men mentioned here, today. Thoughnone of them, have I met in person, they have not… did not hesitate to help when they say a friend in need. Here with all of you here at my side, My Dear Shoevians, I would like to express to them my most deep and heartfelt… … … “THANK YOU!”

.

With every word that I write, from here on out, and every article that I publish. I want them to knowthat I think of their generosity. For, with out which, my voice would be silenced. Because of their kindness, support and caring I am able to continue my work. Continue; writing, sharing and publishing here at The Other Shoe.

.

Finally, I would like to express my thanks to the Owner and workers at H.B. Computers. Amir, the owner, gave me a great deal on the repairs that my computer needed. The work they did returned to me my writing computer in great working order. In the coming week I will be preparing and posting advertisements for H.B. Computers that will appear along the sidebar of each and every one of my four blog locations. “Thank you EVERYONE at H.B. Computers!”

.

Well, that about wraps it up, for today. My Dear Shoevians, the past two days have been terriblydemanding, of me physically. I have; spent hours out in 94+ degree heat, helped with shopping at several different stores, and assisted with nine loads of laundry.

.

This has left me sore… well all over my hands… my neck… my back, and more. I simply must rest, and recuperate, before I begin my writing and publishing in earnest. I will return, in just a matter of days, with publications of; ‘The Mars Report’, ‘Lost in Space’, ‘Election 2016’, ‘American Governance – What We Need Today!’, and ‘A Week in Review’!

.

Adieu!

.

Thank you!

Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to The Other Shoe. First, I would like to extend my heartfelt “THANKS!” to Jason Kleppinger for his donation of $25.00 to my ‘Computer Repair Fund’. This is my very first donation and I am hoping that, with the publication of this article, I might reach more of you, My Dear Shoevians, and convince you that my need is great and genuine. In this second article, regarding the death of my writing computer, I am including images of the; desktop, Device Manager, Device Tab and others as evidence that (in fact) my laptop (writing) computer is damaged and does need repair.

.

Device Information 'Welcome' Screen

                                            Device Information ‘Welcome’ Screen

(Device Information ‘Welcome’ Screen)

.

Since I first wrote of this problem I have been able to get two (over the phone) estimates for the cost of the repair. The estimates (so far) range from $225.00 to $460.00. Of course, I am going to take the computer to the repair company that offers to do the work for the lowest estimate. So far, that is $2250.00, but that is “sight unseen” and could go up (slightly) more if there is more wrong with the laptop. My Dear Shoevians, I have run several diagnostic programs on this laptop and have come to the conclusion that only one problem exists. The ‘Display Adapter’ is not working. I have: rebooted, removed the battery and let computer stand (without power) for two hours then rebooted, booted up without the ‘Repeater-Extension’ module connected, and ‘Uninstalled/Reinstalled’ the display adapter twice. All to no avail. The image below shows the ‘Device Manager’ with the error indicated with the ‘Display Adapter’.

.

.

In order to see the image better, just click on the image and it will take you to a full screen display of the image, this is true for all the image in this article and all images on my blog(s). You can clearly see the Yellow Triangle with the black apostrophe indicating that the problem device is the ‘Display Adapter’. This would be a very small problem with a desktop computer. Just as easy as buying a new (or used on eBay) Graphics card and installing said card into the computer. However, this is a laptop computer and that means that the ‘Display Adapter’ is built into the motherboard. That means, in order to fix the problem, the motherboard must be replaced.

.

.

The image, above, shows the ‘Display Adapter’ tab in the ‘Device Manager’ showing that there is a problem with that device and Windows has not/will not start the device until the problem is resolved. As I have indicated I have gone through any/all trouble shooting for this problem I could find; one the Windows web site, Tom’s Hardware web site, and the nVidia web site, too. I am very much certain that the replacement of the motherboard will resolve the problem I am having, and return to me my writing laptop computer.

My Dear Shoevians, I deeply apologize for this… intrusion into your life… asking for help/assistance is not something that I enjoy or relish. Matter of fact, it really rubs me the wrong way and I work very hard to avoid these situations. However, this has become an unavoidable reality in my life. Again, I deeply apologize for writing and asking for your financial assistance in this matter.

Again, ‘THANK YOU JASON!!!” for your generous contribution of $25.00. With ONLY F I V E more contributions of $50 or more I will have the funds I so desperately need to pay for this much needed repair. I have a real and deep bound with this machine. Over the past seven years I have written; over 650 articles, TWO questions USED BY Bob Schieffer on ‘Face the Nation’ (to question Sen. Mitch McConnell and Speaker Rep. John Boehner), 200+ pages of ‘The Horror in Smithville’, 100+ pages of ‘The Adventures of Princess Nadia – The Healing Light’, newsletters, business cards, fliers and a brochure design (all for Hanning Web Wurx and The Other Shoe).

.

With your contribution(s) (via PayPal) just use enzomatrix@earthlink.net and Daniel Hanning. The repair company HB Computers will be the company making the repairs on my HP DV9500t CTO laptop computer. This laptop computer, when new, cost me $2,000.00 and it still works incredibly well (aside from the display adapter not working), and with this repair I am certain that it will serve me another five years and another 500+ articles plus two more books in the ‘The Horror in Smithville’ series and two more books in the ‘The Adventures of Princess Nadia’ series.

.
My Dear Shoevians,
I do hope that you consider the information I have shared, look at the desktop and device manager images, and PLEASE consider assisting me in this venture of repairing my (desperately needed) writing computer. I have priced new laptop computers and found that a laptop (17.3′ screen, Geforce Video Card, three USB ports, extender port [an HP QuickDock 2.0 Docking Station – which I OWN] and a full sized keyboard with number keypad) would cost me between $2,000.00 and $3,000.00. This, investment, of $225 – $350 is a fraction of that amount and well spent.

My Dear Shoevians, I (Regretfully) Ask for YOUR HELP!

Danny Hanning

                                                                                              Danny Hanning

Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to The Other Shoe. My Dear Shoevians for the past several weeks I have struggled with increased constant pain. I have tried, very hard, to overcome this pain and keep to a regular writing and publishing schedule. My reasons for this is two-fold. First, I long to write… to publish… to create! Without my ability to work a job, to clock in and work a job… a career that I love… my writing is my solace. Second, My Dear Shoevians, is YOU! For the past four years I have written an published for you! I do not do it for money… which, due to my current situation… I regret deeply. I do not put ads on my blogs. I do not make money from your; reading, learning, entertainment.

.

Now, due to an unforeseen circumstance, I am without my computer. This computer has; my Word program, my Voice-to-Text (Dragon Speaking) program, my Animation program, my Publishing program, ALL of my 650+ articles and all of my passwords saved in memory. I have owned this laptop (HP DV 9500t CTO) computer since Christmas 2007. ALL of my best writing was done on this laptop computer. I know how it works, I know how to publish quickly and easily on this computer. Now, due to a mistake I made while panicking, the video card (built into the motherboard) is fried!

.

This laptop computer cost me (roughly) $2,000.00 eight years ago (this Christmas). Today, it will cost me about $400 to have it repaired. Another 17.5′ laptop computer; of equal power and ability, with NEW licensing for all the writing/editing/publishing/animation programs will cost me much more than having it repaired. You see, My Dear Shoevians, it is not just the cost of another laptop replacement. I can find that, at WalMart refurbished/clearance for $500-$600. However, then I have to purchase another; Word Processing program (WORD preferably… I know how to use Word… like, in my sleep), Speech-to-text program, Publisher program (for newsletters, fliers, business cards, and everything else I use and need), animation program (I am looking to replace/upgrade the ‘Sunday Funnies’ series with MY animations), Iolo System Mechanic Professional, Anti-Virus program, and ALL of the other programs I have and USE on this laptop computer.

.

All told, I would have to spend another $500-$600 on programs just to get another new laptop up to the quality and usability of my current laptop. Over the past ten days I have given this a great deal of thought, consideration and soul-searching. This is the best and cheapest course of action. Now, for the kicker!

.

My Dear Shoevians, I am in no financial position to purchase; a new laptop and all the software I need to produce and publish at the professional level I have for the past five years. My Dear Shoevians, it has been years since I have asked for any assistance. Any financial support whatsoever, and I am proud of that fact. I do not like/enjoy/relish asking anyone for any kind of help. It goes against my upbringing, against my belief(s)… and it hurts to ask… and hurts even MORE when I fail to garner much needed support.

However, without any assistance I will be unable to; write, publish, inform, entertain and share my views. This is, already, causing me grief and frustration. If you are a Facebook friend, you will have (likely) seen evidence of this in my posts. My writing and publishing is my creative outlet. It gives me center, it distracts me from my constant and growing levels of pain. Without it, I feel more pain and I sleep less and my sleep is fitful. I am in shambles. I am beside myself. I am without my center… without my creative outlet… without my reason for living.

.

I know that appears extreme… and I do not want to frighten anyone. I am not in a ‘dark place’ and not having hurtful thoughts. That is a reality, but it is getting more and more difficult to make it through each day. My Dear Shoevians, my need is genuine. This is not some pseudo-cry-for-help, I genuinely need financial assistance to get my writing/publishing laptop computer back up and running. I would be willing to sign an agreement to repay any funds! I could manage to pay back $50 a month, and not loose too much food… or medications.

.

Danny Hanning

.

My Dear Shoevians, I deeply apologize for coming to you and asking for help. I am willing to provide evidence that the computer is being repaired. An invoice for the repairs, pictures of the ‘Device Manager’ showing that the video adapter is not working. Screenshots of the desktop with the visual artifacts that prove it is the video card. I am willing to provide any/all evidence that all monies will go to the repair of the laptop and to NOTHING ELSE!

.

This computer has been at my side since Christmas 2007! EVERYTHING I have written for The Other Shoe(s) has been written on THIS computer! I have a creative-bond with this computer. Right now I am writing this article on a borrowed computer without Word or any word processor. I downloaded and installed “Open Office’ to create this article. I do not think I will/would be able to ‘barrow’ this computer often…

.

My Dear Shoevians, my back is against the wall! I am fearful of being without… it, and without my creative outlet.

.

PLEASE! My Dear Shoevians, PLEASE consider assisting me? I have TRIED and TRIED and TRIED to find a way other than what I ask here today!

.

Want to know how desperate I am? I am going to publish my PHONE NUMBER and EMAIL so that someone can help! It SACRES ME GREATLY to do so… but I just cannot think of a way to get the help I need… in a timely fashion.. without sharing this contact information. ONCE I have obtained the help… I will remove this information HOPING that I have not invited disaster… already. PLEASE My Dear Shoevians… reach out and HELP? (714) 931-2436. enzomatrix@earthlink.net

.

PLEASE HELP ME?

.

Thank you!

Journey to L.A. – May 12th, 2015

Promenade on the Peninsula Flyer May 2015

Promenade on the Peninsula Flyer May 2015

.

Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to The Other Shoe. Well, it has been a difficult and very painful week. I am writing this on Saturday afternoon, May16th. The subject of this article is my recent ‘Journey to L.A.’. It is this trip, last Tuesday, which has left me crippled with pain this past week. Two years ago, the journey was difficult, but not really that painful. However, at about 5:00PM last Tuesday I was in such crippling pain that I could hardly move or speak. Again and again, over the passing days, I awoke to the same pain.

.

For all of you, My Dear Shoevians, who are unfamiliar with my circumstances? I am wheelchair/power chair bound and must make a journeyfrom here in southern orange county all the way into Rolling Hills Estates, above Los Angeles. Round trip… it takes just over eleven hours! So, today I am going to build a little story around some pictures and vies I made, this week, while on this ‘Journey to L.A.’

.

.

The video, above, was shot in the parking lot of my current residence at 7:50AM May 12th, 2015. In it I welcome all of you, My Dear Shoevians, to this article and the journey ahead. I made this trip, last, in February of this year. However, I was finishing up chemotherapy and was quite bereft of the energy needed to; write, upload, edit and publish that article. For that, I apologize to you, My Dear Shoevians. This journey takes a lot out of me, and by the end I am drained and in severe pain. My Dear Shoevians, you might well ask “Why?”. Why do I make a journey of this length, that spans over 11 hours, and leaves me completely drain and in severe pain? Check out the image below.

.

Dr. Gorlick’s Bio

Dr. Gorlick’s Bio

(Dr. Gorlick’s Bio)

.

Take a moment, My Dear Shoevians, and read this biography of my primary care physician. He studied medicine at Yale! He was an Associate Professor of Medicine and Instructor at UCLA St. Mary’s Hospital. Board certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics. Former Director of Laboratory Medicine at Pro Health Partners @ Los Alamitos Medical Center (where I met him, first) and supervises and is a Sub-investigator of Clinical Trials at his own “Peninsula Research Associates’.

.

I have to tell you, My Dear Shoevians, I do not know of… any other patients on Medicare that have as accomplished a physician as their primary care doctor. That is the “Why?” I make this journey, and I will continue to make this quarterly journey, as long as my health allows. I am very fortunate to have found, and obtain, Dr. Gorlick as my PCP. When I first started this relationship, Dr. Gorlick was practicing at Pro Health Partners right here at Los Alamitos Medical Center. That is a very short ride, taking less than a half hour each way.

.

.

So, the pictures and videos are in chronological order. Starting with a video taken in the parking lot of my apartment, moving to a picture taken in the Disneyland Transfer Lot, and finishing (below) with a short video I made. This video was made, as I am outbound from Orange County to Rolling Hills Estates/Rancho Palos Verdes. The journey starts with me getting up at 6:00AM. My first ride picks me up, at home, at about 8:00AM. I arrive at the Disneyland Transfer Lot by 10:00AM and the L.A. Access bus arrives between 10:30AM-11:00AM.

.

.

Depending on traffic on the many freeways L.A. Access takes on any given ride. Add to that any/all other passengers that they pick-up and/or drop-off. This ride, in the L.A. Access Minivan, takes anywhere from two to three hours. I, usually, arrive at Promenade on the Peninsula by 12:00PM to 1:20PM. I have a standing appointment, with Dr. Gorlick at the Palos Verdes Medical Group, for every three months on the second Tuesday of the month at 1:45PM. I am his very first appointment of the day. This gives us all time to; review my ‘Agenda For Appointment’ (a handout that I prepare and print up prior to every appointment), go over any tests/scans/surgeries since out last visit, then we both talk about our families.

.

(Danny at Palos Verdes Medical Group May 2015)

.

This appointment usually takes about 15 to 20 minuets, and we all leave smiling and very happy to have spent time together. Now, My Dear Shoevians, I have to tell you about the Mall where Dr. Gorlick has this office! It is a very ‘Upscale’ mall situated at the top of the PV Hills. There is a ‘Lord & Taylor’, an ‘Abercrombie and Fitch’ and an indoor skating rink. This place is a very upscale mall and I get a big kick out of going there to see my doctor. I always, as you can see from the pictures and videos, dress up very nice.

.

.

I just get a big kick going to see my Medicare doctor in this kind of mall, with all the well-to-do people scampering around in the Land Rovers and BMWs. I mean, I cannot afford to get my teeth fixed, from the falls I had back in April, but I get to travel 34 miles in about five hours. Five hours there, and five hours back. Now that we have completed our journey in, let us start our return to Westminster. The last video I have embedded (above) was taken from the Third Floor of the Promenade on the Peninsula. If you look closely you might be able to see the hills just behind me and the cellular towers and the like on the very top of the PV Hills.

.

Danny at Promenade on the Peninsula

(Danny at Promenade on the Peninsula)

.

After our appointment, Allen and I, take a few moments to look around the Mall. Once we have finished our Window-Shopping we find a nice quite place to sit back and enjoy peanut butter sandwiches and Coke Zeros that we have brought along with us. We sit and talk, taking in the view, then work our way back down to the ground floor to await our return L.A. Access minivan. It usually arrives between 2:30PM and 3:00PM. Now, this is the kicker! Where it took us an hour to two hours (tops!) to get to my doctor’s office?

.

The return ride on L.A. Access always takes three to three and a half hours! For the first year I would always schedule my pick-up, at Disneyland Transfer Lot, for 6:00PM. However, they (L.A. Access) would always be late. So, now I schedule for a pick-up at 6:30PM. This makes my day a little-to-a-lot longer, but it is better than having to call OCTA while in transit. The video, below, was taken at the Disneyland Transfer Lot at approximately 6:30PM.

.

.

When OCTA (the Orange County equivalent of L.A. Access) arrives at the Disneyland Transfer Lot it is, usually, between 6:30PM and 7:00PM. On this occasion it did not arrive until 7:30PM. My journey is, usually, complete by 8:00PM when I am dropped off in the parking lot at home. One this journey we arrived, in the parking lot, at 9:00PM! Thus creating a THIRTEEN-HOUR JOURNEY!

.

.

Many of you, My Dear Shoevians, are very aware that I did not publish this (last) week. This is the reason why that happened. Why I was completely unable to sit behind the keyboard and create this article. Why I was unable to; write, download images, upload images, edit and publish the regularly scheduled articles that you and I love so dearly. It was not from a lack of material. It was not from a lack of desire to entertain and inform all of you, My Dear Shoevians. It was, quite simply, because I was unable to move for several days.

.

Now I hope that all of you, My Dear Shoevians, understand my absence and accept my deep and heartfelt apology. I very much enjoy writing and publishing for your enjoyment. This act helps give my life meaning, and joy. I will do my level best to work to write and publish more of our favorite weekly series articles, here at The Other Shoe. We have reached that point in our journey today, My Dear Shoevians.

.

The end of this article and my telling of the tale of my ‘Journey to L.A.!’. I hope that I have entertained and distracted, made you laugh and helped you to relate. One final bit of new business before I go. If you follow me, or The Other Shoe, on Facebook (just click on either link to ‘Like’ or ‘Friend’) then you are already aware. For all of you, My Dear Shoevians, that are not my Friends yet.. or have ‘Liked’ The Other Shoe… I have some news!

.

I have started an all new THIRD location for our blog, The Other Shoe! Working with my Google account and my Google-Plus I have created a mirror image blog at BlogSpot! Here is the URL for the all NEW The Other Shoe!(Just click on the name, right there) As of 3:00AM this morning, the all new location is 95% updated with the other locations. As a matter of fact, this new location has all the articles that are published at my Word Press location. It is just missing the 2010, 2011, and early 2012 publications from my primary blog location at blog dot com here: The Other Shoe.

.

Be sure to drop by and take a look. All the articles, all the images, all the content will be the exact same as the other two locations. All that is different is the look of this new blog location. I am working very hard to increase our readership. Increase just how many My Dear Shoevians there are! Thank you for your time. Thank you for your support. Thank you for dropping by, and most of all… Thank you for being a SHOEVIAN!

A Week in Review – May 10th, 2015

NASA Research Suggests Mars Once Had More Water Than Earth’s Arctic Ocean

NASA Research Suggests Mars Once Had More Water Than Earth’s Arctic Ocean

.

Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to The Other Shoe. I have to openly admit, this week was fraught with pain and problems! Mid-week I was struck with some terrific pain, all through my neck and into my arms and head. I tried sleeping it away, I tried soaking it away and all to no avail. Finally, I just settled in for a long hard ride and decided to do as little as I could around the house… … … and to let the blogs… sit. THAT was a very difficult decision, My Dear Shoevians.

.

After a seven month absence I was seeing traffic numbers, for a week’s time, up to One Hundred Nineteen!!! That translates to a yearly traffic of well over SIX THOUSAND!!!!! That is some serious traffic numbers to take to a publisher… with a truly original and touching novel in hand. It wasn’t easy but I took Tuesday and Wednesday off. I re-published my Hubble’s 25th Anniversary’ on Wednesday, then it happened.

.

This happens every six to eight months, at my location at blog dot com, the whole bloody web site just crashes! So, I wait and wait and wait. GONE for three days! I did not ‘see’ my primary blog location for three days, until today! So, here I am trying my hardest to play catch-up with the missed publication of the ‘Traffic Reports’ band now this ‘A Week in Review’. Now, I am tired and hurting all over again. But this will pass. I have to manage to finish this weekly review, and then publish ‘Sunday Funnies’ before it is no longer Sunday!

.

So, without further adieu, I give you ‘A Week in Review – May 10th, 2015’!

.

Gryphon Sharing Danny's Soda!

  • Sunday Funnies – Gryphon’s Premiere! – “Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to The Other Shoe. Today is a extra special edition of ‘Sunday Funnies’! Today I would like to ask you, My Dear Shoevians, to join me in Welcoming Gryphon D. Hannning (click on the hyperlink to go to Gryphon’s Facebook Page!) to this storied article series. As most of you are aware… … … Alexander R. Hanning passed away, several weeks ago, after a long battle with failing health. I made him as comfortable as possible, prepared all his favorite foods, and held him 24/7 for his comfort. He was loved deeply, and will be even more deeply missed. Last edition of ‘Sunday Funnies’ was a homage to Alexander.” This, My Dear Shoevians, was a very difficult article for me to write and publish. You see, it was an end, of sorts. An end to the era of Alexander R. Hanning as the star of ‘Sunday Funnies’ and the beginning of an all new era of Gryphon D. Hannning as the new star. I never do well with endings… of anything, but especially of the furry little ones I come to care for and love. There will never be a day… a time when I stop thinking of Alexander. He had that big an impact on my life, my work, my soul. It was Alexander that was at my side when I was diagnosed with cancer. It was Alexander that was at my side when I came home after chemotherapy. It was Alexander that stayed by my side when I got sick, and was there no matter what happened. However, this article was the premiere for another furry friend, Gryphon D. Hannning. This is Gryphon’s premiere video and premiere edition of ‘Sunday Funnies’. I hope that everyone stopped by to enjoy his premiere and his antics. Enjoy!

  • The Mars Report – May 4th, 2015 – “Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to The Other Shoe. Today marks the beginning of my third week back at; researching, writing, editing and publishing here at The Other Shoe. That is an important milestone for me, as just a few months ago (about mid-way through my chemotherapy treatments) I wondered if I would ever return to writing and publishing again. Well, not at all, what I mean is I doubted that I would ever again publish on a regular schedule again. Now, here I am two weeks past and over a dozen articles under my belt since my ‘The Rebirth and Re-Launch of The Other Shoe’ article of April 13th, 2015.” It was this Gargantuan edition of ‘The Mars Report’ that I think put me over the edge and into a world of hurt. The singles largest edition, with the most images, the most conetnet and the most science ever! If you haven’t looked at this edition, you should! Enjoy!

  • Lost in Space – Hubble’s 25th – Redux – “So good, worth republishing today! I’m taking a day of R&R, here’s a wonderful celebration of Hubble’s 25th anniversary. Enjoy! Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to The Other Shoe. Today is Wednesday April 22nd, 2015 and when I started the research for this article I quickly became aware that today is the 25th Anniversary of the launch of the Hubble Space Telescope! What a glorious day to pay tribute to this wonder of the modern age, by sharing some of the most recent images captured by Hubble.” With the pain in my neck reaching new levels of blinding pain, I decided to give myself a day to rest and recover. Little did I know that the primary blog location would take this opportunity to go AWOL! Nevertheless, this edition is/was worth republishing, so I did! ENJOY!

  • Traffic Reports – May 7th, 2015 “Now that I have the news out of the way, let me get to the meat of this article. As many of you, My Dear Shoevians, know about every six months I publish a ‘Traffic Report’. Now, I do this for many reasons, not the least of which is that I enjoy sharing the limited success of my writing. Yes, I work hard at; research, writing, editing and publishing at The Other Shoe. When I see the traffic counter on the Blog Dot com location stay over one hundred for a week or more… YES I am very very proud! That has occurred over the past two weeks.” This was a very enlightening edition of ‘Traffic Reports’. Whereas I did see the corresponding decline in readership during my chemotherapy, if you don’t publish new content, readers go elsewhere, that is a given. However, there is ‘Good News’ in this report, too! Good news in the discovery of even more expanded international readership! THAT is very ‘Good News’ indeed! If you need a reason to read this article, learning that My Dear Shoevians live in; England, France, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands and evern RUSSIA should do the trick, eh? Read and be informed!

.

That, My Dear Shoevians, brings us to the end of this article and the end of the week’s publishing. I hope that everyone takes some time, out of your Sunday, to go back and read and view some of the wonderful work and images I shared this past week. Again, I apologize for the absence, made even longer by the down time at the primary blog location. I am back, and I have a “Sunday Funnies’ yet to publish, today.

.

I regret to inform you that this week is my ‘Quarterly Visit To L.A.’ and my primary care physician, Dr. Laurence Gorlick. This journey into L.A., and back, takes a great deal out of me. It is a journey that takes, Allen and I, more than twelve hours of transit van rides to get into Rancho Palos Verde, and back here to Orange County. I will do my best to keep up my writing schedule, I just cannot make any promises I might not keep.

.

Thank you!

.

Adieu!
