A Week in Review – July 19th 2014

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. If it is Saturday, it is time for ‘A Week in Review’ at The Other Shoe! First, I am still having problems with my primary blog location at Blog Dot Com. If you go to the site and experience errors, 502, ‘Bad Gateway’, or the like just please refresh the page and it should appear. I am continuing to write and ask for technical support. Next, due to failing health, and the corresponding depression, this week was a little shy on publications.

.

502 - Bad Gateway Error

502 – Bad Gateway Error

.

Including today’s article I will have brought five articles to you, My Dear Readers, in seven days. That is not bad, but it is far from what I am used to bringing to you, and what I expect of myself. Granted, My Dear Readers, that in the past seven days? I have taught myself some of the basics of animation! As you will see, in this review of this week, I have ventured into an all new medium!

.

Starting, this week, I have added animation to The Other Shoe! Granted for right now my work product has been limited to creating logos for one of the most popular article series. Hopefully, in the near future, I will add ‘Sunday Funnies’ that is an animation that I have done all by myself! You see, My Dear Readers, I am always looking for ways to improve the blog, entertain you more, and really make a go of this blog and my writing and publications.

.

Animation has always fascinated me, and today that is just as true as when I was a boy. Now that I have access to a software program, that helps and tutorials, I am finding that the art of animation is not really all that daunting! It is time consuming, most of all. Whereas I can write, and publish, written word in one day? Creating, executing and publishing an animation can take up, and exceeding, a week for just a matter of a few minutes.

.

Finally, I had promised to publish two episodes of ‘The Horror in Smithville’ this week, when I published the ‘Missing Chapters’ on Thursday. I apologize that when push came to shove I was unable to publish the two episodes that I promised. For that I deeply apologize. I will work hard to see if I can make that happen, this week. However, Tuesday I am scheduled to see (at least one) doctor to review the results of the C.T. Scan I had done last week.

.

Honestly, just how much I manage to accomplish will (greatly) depend on if I get ‘Good News’ or ‘Bad News’. Sorry! I do not expect to publish on Tuesday, as getting to my doctor’s appointment(s) usually shoots a whole day. However, I will try to make sure I have more content, for you My Dear Readers, this week. Thank you for your understanding and support through this difficult time.

.

Now, without further adieu I give you ‘A Week in Review’!

.

  • A Week in Review – 500th Articles A Week’s Celebration! : “So I decided to write an edition of ‘A Week in Review’ to cover the week of celebratory articles for the publication of my FIVE HUNDREDTH ARTICLE! Yeah, I am very proud to have reached this milestone in publication. I do not know of many other people that have written and published over five hundred articles… much les in just four short years. IT was my pride that pushed me to write so very much last week. I am pretty certain that the push to publish is the reason for my woes.” I really am hoping that the lower, than expected and ‘normal’, traffic numbers are more to do with the problems with the web site and Blog Dot Com than… with me. I really am pushing myself… writing when I am in pain and working just as hard as my body allows. Granted, the depression has become rather crushing… as of late. However, I am hoping the Tuesday has ‘Good News’ that will chase away these storm clouds and give me a more ‘sunny’ disposition!
  • Daniel Hanning Breaks into an All NEW Medium! : “Over the past several days I have been teaching myself… … … (drum roll, please!) ANIMATION! That’s right, over the past several days I have been working to learn the basics of Animation! I have struggled, over the past several weeks, over just what I could add to The Other Shoe? Add so that I might drive more traffic to my site. The other day I was talking with a good friend and they asked me…” “Danny what can you add to the blog that you ENJOY and might drive more traffic?” ANIMATION! Well, it didn’t happen exactly like that… but it was close! Regardless, here I am presenting (in this article) my work product from a week of; reading, watching tutorial videos, experimenting, and ‘getting my feet wet’ in the world of animation! Already I can tell you, My Dear Readers, animation is something that I will work with… dabble in and play with for the rest of my life! This week, alone, has shown that I can ‘do’ animation, that I enjoy working with animation, and that I will be able to find a way to work it into my articles and publications at The Other Shoe! SCORE!
  • The Mars Report – July 16th 2014 : “Now, for the first share of this edition, we are rapidly approaching the Second Anniversary of Curiosity on the Martian surface. That anniversary will happen on August 6th, 2014. So, we are just a few weeks away from that celebration. Before we get to that day, I thought that I might share a little overview of the First Year of Curiosity on Mars. Below is a video, that NASA/JPL made, that is a great overview of the very first year of Curiosity on the Martian surface.” Well, My Dear Readers, this was an extra-special edition of ‘The Mars Report’! Not only was I able to share the ‘Special’ commemorative video, by NASA/JPL, used to mark/celebrate Curiosity’s First Year on Mars? I was, also, able to share images of Curiosity’s discovery (its first) of a meteorite on Mars! As if that is not enough? I also included the very first complete mapping of the Martian surface by the USGS! This map is the very first of its kind and a real find for me and this blog. Over the next two weeks I am hoping to share a lot more from Curiosity to help celebrate its Second year of exploration on the Martian surface!
  • The Horror in Smithville – The ‘Missing’ Chapters! : “Now today I am not breaking with that publication schedule, but I am shaking things up a little. Today I am going to publish… a missing chapter of ‘The Horror in Smithville’. Missing in that when I, originally, wrote parts two and three I had not yet imagined just how I was going to create the conflict I needed. Since that time I have figured out just how to create the desired effect in my story. That has resulted in me writing two (or more) chapters that, actually, come earlier than we currently find ourselves!” Honestly? My Dear Readers, this is really pretty exciting, for me. I am doing… something that is completely out of the ‘norm’ for a writer, or a publisher. By adding these ‘Missing Chapters’ WHILE we are still enjoying the ride? (We are about half-way through this novel) I am adding; a whole new character… well, rather, promoting a background character to one with his own plot line, character development, and iatrical role in the main story line. This is what I am talking about, I have never witnessed an author actually try something like this… like, ever before! Thing of it is? If this works… is well received, then I have TWO more characters that I would just LOVE to do this same exercise, with. This, for me as a writer and publisher, is really exciting. I hope that everyone that is enjoying ‘The Horror in Smithville’ gets a chance to read ALL of these ’Missing Chapters’!

.

Well, My Dear Readers, that brings us to the end of a very short publication week, and a very long week in reality. Now I need to start getting together had copies of images from my scan, put together the clothes that I will wear, call and order my transportation, and generally get ‘ready’ for my doctor’s visit this Tuesday. From what I was told I will be ‘seeing’ two doctors this Tuesday.

.

I will see my ‘Infectious Disease’ specialist and I will, also, have a visit with my ‘Oncologist’. It is the latter that gives me pause, and the reason I am not sleeping. You know, My Dear Readers, I forgot how writing takes my mind off of these woes! While I have writing I haven’t given as much thought… well, except for writing about it every other paragraph… lol.

.

Anyways, I really hope that I can get the time… make the time to write and publish editions of; ‘Lost in Space’, ‘The Mars Report’, ‘News from Around the World’ (BOY there is no shortage of that right now, eh?), and ‘The Horror in Smithville’ this week. I want you all to know that I am going to do everything that I can to present these regular articles to you, this week.

.

Let me back up, a bit. I added a day of ‘The Horror in Smithville’ for one very good reason. When I got past the thirty or so pages I have ready to publish, I realized that I had totally left out; a character progression, a plot line addition, and a little bit of ‘drity business’ that… well, is very important to the story going ahead. Rather than just bluff my way through and ignore the consequences?

.

I decided it would be best if I did my best to integrate the ‘Missing Chapters’ into my weekly publication schedule. That would give all of you more of the story to read, and give me a way to bring the whole picture to life! It is a great idea, if I say so myself, the problem was I had failed to anticipate my failing health… the problems with the blog… and that irritating little distraction called depression. Lol.

.

My Dear Readers, I will do my best to bring you the two episodes of ‘The Horror in Smithville’ that I have promised. I just know that, once it is published, you will just love what I am adding to the story line. Further, we all get to know another character in Smithville! Well, that brings us to the end of this week’s publications… and the end of the week.

.

I hope that everyone had a great and productive week. I look forward to seeing you, My Dear Readers, here next week! Until then…

.

Adieu!

.

Thank YOU!

FIVE HUNDRED ARTICLES – Part Four – Politics and Editorial(s)

.

Danny Hanning of The Other Shoe - May 6th, 2014

Danny Hanning of The Other Shoe – May 6th, 2014

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Today I continue the ‘Celebration and Review’ for the Five Hundredth article published here at The Other Shoe. So far we have covered the article series; ‘Lost In Space’, ‘The Mars Report’ and ‘MMORPGs And YOU!’. Three days and three articles reviewing a different series of articles published here at The Other Shoe. I am not going to break that trend, here, today!

.

AS well, just as a bit of a heads up tomorrow I plan on bringing you, My Dear Readers, a review… and something new… of ‘The Horror in Smithville’! For my regular readers, we last left off with a terribly injured Timmy headed, with his injured head in Archer’s lap, to the Smithville hospital! Tomorrow I will review the first thirteen episodes and give you a little taste of what is to come.

.

Now, back to today’s review and… at the end… I am going to share my views on a current problem facing our great nation. Yes, at the end of this article I am going to weigh in on the crisis at the southern borders of our great nation. My Dear Readers I started this blog on March 22nd, 2010 with the intent of bringing a voice of reason to our frantic national debate. I have never wanted to be just another voice of rhetoric. I never wanted to be a rhetoric parrot. I have my own ideals, beliefs and considered political and social views.

.

Nothing highlights this more than two occasions when words I wrote found voice on a nationally viewed political news show. Most Americans will live out their entire lives without once their words reaching beyond the limits of their personal world. A handful, even a smaller group than previously mentioned, will have the honor and privilege to hear words they wrote spoken on a national broadcast television show. On July 31st, 2011 I (Daniel Hanning) joined that small and vocal group of Americans.

.

That is because on July 31st, 2011 Bob Schieffer picked a question that I wrote and used it to question (then) Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell! The craziest thing about this whole happening? My Dear Readers, I had received an email that ‘”your question may be used during Sunday’s broadcast…” so I was watching ‘Face the Nation’ with Bob Scheifffer on that Sunday! Oh… I try to watch ‘Face the Nation’ every week. Yet, honestly, since politics up ‘on the Hill’ has digressed to the sophomoric level(s) that we see today? I just do not watch the ‘Sunday Political Shows’ the way I did when I was in my 20’s and 30’s. I knew that Bob was going to be questioning Senator Mitch McConnell. They had advertise that fact on their Facebook feeds, and that is where they had asked for “questions from Facebook followers” that they “might use” for Bob’s questioning of Senator McConnell.

.

Well, I just had to submit my question! What I submitted was something that I had been asking all over the internet, for the previous two months. Here is what I posted… and what, later, Bob Schieffer used as a question ON TELEVISION July 31st, 2011.

.

”Why are Republicans ALLOWING ‘Freshman’ Congressmen CONTROL this debate? They are the LEAST experienced members of Congress and know the LEAST about real governance. It is like letting teenagers control the family budget.”

.

Honestly, I thought that that question cut through all the claptrap, all the nonsense and all the rhetoric and got to the very heart of the matter. You see, My Dear Readers, when (as a boy) I learned about the Congress; The House of Representatives and the Senate, I learned that freshmen Representatives and Senators never ‘Controlled the debate’. Rarely did they submit bills (legislation), rarely did they head committees and never did freshmen Congressmen control the legislative debate! Yet, at this particular time? That was exactly what was happening ‘Up on the Hill’ and it was driving good Americans (like me) nuts!

.

Oh… here is the article I wrote.. link… excerpt and a little narrative;

.

  • Danny Hanning Quoted on ‘Face the Nation’ : “That’s right, you read that correctly. TODAY on this Sunday’s ‘Face the Nation’ Mr. Bob Schieffer used WORDS I WROTE on his show as a question to Senator Mitch McConnell. Here is the posting I wrote on the ‘Face the Nation’ Facebook page (Comment on thread “Coming up tomorrow: Republican Leader Senator Mitch McConnell, and Democratic Policy Committee Chair Senator Chuck Schumer, both key players in the debt ceiling negotiations. What questions do YOU want answered on this week’s Face the Nation? Let us know…”):” The single proudest day of my adult life! I had finally been heard… my voice found a spot on the national STAGE! All the years of; reading, studying, writing, and speaking had finally paid off! Bob Schieffer had (on NATIONAL TELEVISION) used my question to put Senate Minority Leader Senator Mitch McConnell ON THE SPOT! Of course, Mitch NEVER really answered my question. His answer? Some claptrap about “there is no real division among Republicans… no more than our Democrat leaders…” That was not the question! So, my introduction to MY WORDS SPOKEN ON NATIONAL TV was also my introduction to the realities of nationalized political debate. Mitch McConnell ‘popped my cherry’.

.

Yet, My Dear Readers, I did not let that experience dampen my political spirits or my desire to be heard! Understand, My Dear Readers, at this particular time I am living ‘hand-to-mouth’, facing a rapidly deteriorating disease, and regularly fighting with the management of the building I lived in for ‘drinkable water’. Even with all that ‘on my plate’ I still wanted to be an active participant in our nation’s political debate. I felt a strong desire to my opinion heard.

.

That was July of 2011. Let us skip ahead two years to July of 2013. Since my words had been used to question Senator Mitch McConnell (back in July of 2013) I had tried) to keep a low profile… when it came to political writing and politically based editorials on my blog. You see, My Dear Readers, I was born and raised in Southeast Texas, Houston then Pearland, to be exact. A good portion of my readers live in Texas and the south. My Dear Readers, I want to always treat you with respect.

.

As readers of my blog, my work, my words you have earned my respect. However, the good people in Texas (and the south) are the people I grew up with… went to school with… preformed on stage in front of… first read my writings in the High School Creative Writing class’s yearly publication… and know and love me like no others. While running a campaign to raise the money I needed… to purchase a ‘Power Chair’ (I was, then, loosing my ability to walk… It has only digressed… since then). While I was running that funding campaign (Daniel’s Power Chair Assistance Fund) I had an acquaintance (that I trust… I care about…. I respect) inform me that… well, that my work offended people, that I grew up with, that had done well for themselves… they were/are millionaires… and I was not to expect their help… their assistance… BECAUSE of what I wrote… because what I wrote was seen as “against Texas/Texans” and “against Republicans.. and them”.

.

Now, My Dear Readers, for one moment imagine. Put yourself in my shoes, so to speak. You have a degenerative disease that is, slowly, taking away your ability to walk… will take away your abilities to; write, hold things in your hands, stand alone, bathe yourself, live ‘normally’. Now, imagine that you have very limited financial means and you need a powered wheelchair (you are unable to use a simple wheelchair… because you are unable to grip things with your left hand). You try going through your doctor and Medicare only to find out that (due to severe abuse of the ‘scooter/power chair’ benefit within Medicare… previous to you needing treatment) that the procedure to get a power chair has turned into a gauntlet! That representatives within the vendors of powered mobility assistance devices tell you “We see that ONLY one in FIVE to one in TEN people that ‘have a genuine NEED” for our devices get approved”.

.

So, My Dear Readers, you take it upon yourself to raise the money you need for your power chair. Now, My Dear Readers, imagine being told that your work… your words… your beliefs are all that stand between you and the funds you need… is “your writing’? Judge me if you will… but, My Dear Readers, right then I changed! Since then? I have done my level best to not write or publish… ANYTHING that might offend or distance me from people that (have the means) to help. Well… that went on a little longer than I imagined… but as My Dear Readers… I believe you have the right to know.

.

Two years pass and, again, Bob Scheiffer asks (on ‘Face the Nation’ Facebook page) for “A question to ask House Speaker John Boehner”. I posted this;

.

“Why have the Republican Majority taken more time off than Congress during World War 2.. produced LESS legislation than ANY Congress in history…?”

.

In essence, “Why is this the single Least Productive Congress in History?” and I included a link to an article that proved that the 112th Congress was the least productive in history.[1] My Dear Readers? If I live to be One Hundred I will never forget the answer spoken by, then, Speaker of the House of Representatives (R) John Boehner;

.

“We should not be judged on how many new laws we create,” the nation’s top elected Republican said on CBS. “We ought to be judged on how many laws we repeal.”[2]

.

I guess that Speaker Boehner is/was not familiar with the title “Lawmaker”! Yet, My Dear Readers, again I sat transfixed by the television as a Republican Leader answered a question I WROTE! Twice, in two years, Bob Scheiffer had picked my question (out of many submitted by his Facebook followers) to use to question; the Leader of the Senate Minority and the Leader of the House Majority! Honestly, My Dear Readers, I wish my father was still alive to see what his son had done. Below is the link to the article I wrote, alter that day, to document (once again) that words I wrote were used on a nationally broadcast television show!

.

  • MY TOPIC Opens ‘Face The Nation’ TODAY : “Welcome back, My Dear Readers, to another edition of The Other Shoe. I am very excited to see that Face The Nation has followed my lead and used Congressional Intransigence as its lead subject matter. See below, where Face The Nation asked for questions to ask the Speaker. Low and behold!? They used my suggestion!” I am very PROUD that my words were used to question (both) Minority Leader Senator Mitch McConnell and Speaker of the House Rep. John Boehner. Honestly, My Dear Readers, I think about that fact nearly every week. Often I think about the responsibility that comes with this distinction. I try my best to think about that fact before I publish any article. One can never tell where something they wrote… will end up on national television! I am deeply honored… and… I wish that my father could have watched as Bob Sheiffer asked those questions. He would have been so very proud of his Danny!

.

Now, My Dear Readers, that brings us to the end of this half of today’s article. I have taken a look back, shared the two moments where I felt the most pride at my work and my words. This blog means the world to me, My Dear Readers! What I have done, here at this blog, both politically and creatively are the pride of my life… since my head injury… since my disability! Now, as I promised at the beginning of this article, I would like to share my view on a current problem.

.

My Dear Readers, since I was told… what I shared above… about how my “views” kept people… who have the means… and more kept them from helping me… when my need is genuine… I have done and will continue to try, to not write or publish articles that may offend people of differing political views and/or my be ‘seen’ as disparaging towards people in Texas and the south. Today, I fear that what I am about to write and publish may offend people on the ‘left’. That, after this article is published? I might just be marched right out of the Democratic Party. That I might be told “you are not a Liberal!’. To get my views across and my opinion heard? I am willing to take that chance!

.

The subject is? (Drum roll, please) The illegal immigration of underage children into the Untied States. I RARELY comment on ‘Current Events’ but this one just cries out for me to weigh in! Quickly (as my hands are failing me and my neck is… in a severe amount of pain) let me give a little history of this problem.

.

The number of young illegal aliens flooding the border has skyrocketed in recent years. In 2009, only 6,639 unaccompanied alien children were resettled, and the number remained stable until 2011, with 7,120. In 2012, there were twice as many unaccompanied alien children at 14,271, the same year the administration announced its deferred action for young illegal aliens. By 2013 there were 25,498.

According to the Congressional Research Service, a total of 47,017 unaccompanied alien children have crossed the border this year.”[3]

.

Quick Math here = 100,00 + “unaccompanied minor children” have crossed America’s southern borders into our great nation! This is a BIG PROBLEM! So far, I do not think I have said anything partisan. I do believe that members of both political parties agree that this… ‘growing number of underage unaccompanied children’ streaming across our southern borders is a Big Problem! Now, let me share a couple of ‘other facts’ with you, My Dear Readers.

.

  1. 1. Roughly 1.6 MILLION American born children are homeless![4]
  2. 2. Roughly 16 MILLION American born children go hungry every night![5]

.

That I know of, those figures do not count illegal immigrants and the invisible Americans. I did my best to share the number of ‘American Born Children’ for both statistics. That is important for the argument I am about to make. Well, My Dear Readers, I do not think I have (so far) said anything that is partisan. I have not shared anything that is ‘controversial’ and/or would offend members of either party. Nothing I have, so far, written is directed at or against any of our Southern sates. Correct? I just wanted to get that clear… before I wrote… this.

.

My Dear Readers, it is my heartfelt belief that; considering the numbers I have shared above? America (Americans… We the People… and our government) have thoroughly proven that we are incapable of; feeding and housing THE CHILDREN BORN HERE IN AMERICA! With that in mind, My Dear Readers, how are we expected to feed and house ANOTHER 40… 50… 60… 100 THOUSAND children from ‘other’ countries? HOW?!?

.

To me, My Dear Readers, this is a lot like throwing fuel on a fire. Adding insult to injury, and biting off more than we can chew! America no more needs more children to fail than the number we give birth to right here in America. I do not mean to be callus. Honest! I am just looking at this situation analytically! If America cannot adequately house and feed the children born right here in America? We have NO business ‘taking in’ children from other nations. It is just completely illogical and can only make the living situation for BOTH groups of children (legally born here in America, and illegally smuggled into America) WORSE!

.

As well, until the time comes that we (the People) CAN adequately feed and house all the children born here in America? We have no business ‘taking in’ children from other nations. Period! It is irresponsible to AMERICANS, and to America! I understand that the parents of these children (it is generally believed) have sent these children to America to; Escape violence in their country of birth, escape drug trafficking, “find a better life for them in America”?

.

I’m sorry, My Dear Readers, but I am having a real difficulty wrapping my head around the logic of a parent ‘sending their children’ to America… by themselves… as some plan to give them a better life. HORSEFEATHERS! There is nothing altruistic about pushing a six, seven, eight or ten year old out the door! There is nothing altruistic about shifting the responsibility of the welfare and future of YOUR CHILDREN to people you do not know in a country thousands of miles away! Again… HORSEFEATHERS!

.

Here is my ‘Two Cents’ on this situation. This situation is not a ‘humanitarian’ situation, more like America is under an attack! Next, the ‘parents’ (and I use that term loosely when it comes to the people who sent these children alone into a foreign country) the ‘parents’ should be financially REPSONSIBLE for all expenses incurred by OUR GOVERNMENT(s) (and I mean ALL monies spent by; Federal, State, County and Local Municipalities) in the handling of these illegal immigrant children! That the nation(s) these children CAME from should be financially responsible for the HUGE costs associated with these children being sent to America.

.

Next. Let me ask you something, My Dear Readers, I have watched the news stories and the videos of these children coming ‘up’ (as it were) to America from the nations they were born. They are ILLEGALLY riding trains! They are exposing the companies that own these trains to HUGE liabilities and DANGER by riding; on top of cars, in between cars, and even MORE dangerous ways. Bottom Line? They are BREAKING LAWS just getting to America! So, what make ANYONE think that… ‘once they HAVE broken laws to just get here… that, once they are here… they are suddenly going to be ‘Law Abiding Citizens’? HORSEFEATHERS!

.

My Two Cents! These ‘children’ are (likely) going to suffer with ‘SOCIAL DETACTMENT DISORDER”!Meaning = at a very young age they disconnect from; the Society (they were born to), the FAMILY (they were born to), the COUNTRY (they were born to) and the COMMUNITIES (They were born to). BEFORE they even know what it is to be a part of; a community, a society, a country they are ‘shipped’ (ILLEGALLY I MIGHT ADD! NOBODY ‘PAYING’ for their transportation… FREE!) to ‘another’ country… ‘another’ society…. ‘another’ community! From a very young and impressionable age they are taught (by the actions of their parental units) how to function DETACHED FROM the society they live in!

.

Bottom line, these very young children are taught that it is ‘OK’ to; steal passage on a train, steal food to eat, steal INTO another country and yet ‘some’ people think that these children will grow up and ‘develop normal social relationships’? That they will develop normal respect for the law? I think NOT! These ‘children’ ARE ‘damaged’. There is NO WAY that they can make a journey of several thousand miles, STEALING; food, transportation, clothing EVERYTHING they need for the months that they travel… THEY STEAL! Yet, once they get here… they (like all the sudden… magically) are going to be ‘normal’ children able to develop normal relationships, become CONTRIBUTING members to their communities, LAWABIDING adults? HORSEFEATHERS!

.

That is my argument. Here is my ‘solution’. It is out responsibility (AS A NATION) to turn them AWAY! They should NOT be given… well… (here is where I guess I say “Good-Bye” to being a ‘Democrat’… a ‘Liberal’…) they should not be given ANYTHING! Again, My Dear Readers, America cannot feed SIXTEEN MILLION of our children that are BORN HERE IN AMERCA! America cannot HOUSE ONE POINT SIX MILLION children born right here in America! Yet, we are going to add to our; CHILDHOOD HUNGER… and CHILDHOOD HOMELESSNESS by MILLIONS? That is not only illogical that is just plain wrong! We are NOT doing any of these children any ‘good’ by throwing them into the grinder that is already chewing up our native-born children!

.

I am sorry! I know that what I am writing is not ‘popular’. However, I feel it is my responsibility to be honest and pragmatic. I am not ‘the person’ that is doing harm to these children! It is their ‘parents’! (and I use that term very loosely) It was their ‘parents’ that told them to; STEAL PASSAGE on a train, STEAL FOOD to eat, and STEAL THEMSELVES INTO AMERICA! It IS their ‘parents’ that ARE responsible for the ‘Social Detachment Disorder’ that these thousands of CHILDREN will suffer from for the rest of their lives! It is NOT America’s responsibility to suffer with the; theft, lies, violence and CRIME that is/will be the ‘result’ of the ‘Social Detachment Disorder’ these children will suffer with for the rest of their lives!

.

We do NOT need crime to increase in America as a DIRECT RESULT of the morally bankrupt actions of their ‘parents’. This is a simple one people. We must not allow these children to stay in America! NO! WE must send them BACK to the nation of their birth STAT! Now, let me ask you, My Dear Readers, a very pointed question.

.

IF drug trafficking became rampant in America? Would YOU ‘run away’? OR would you STAY AND FIGHT TO KEEP AMERICA SAFE?!?! Aye, THERE’S the RUN! If there were terrible problems in America? MOST Americans would stay and FIGHT to make America BETTER! I would (even in my messed up state) I WOULD STAY AND FIGHT… even DIE to protect what makes America great! I firmly believe that MOST Americans WOULD STAY AND FIGHT! We would FIGHT the drug dealers… we would FIGHT the tyrants… we would NOT ‘Run Away’ and abandon America!

.

Just how is it that these ‘parents’ think that they are doing ‘the right thing’ for their country by running away’? Just HOW are they going to make; Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, (yuda yuda yuda) BETTER by ‘running away’? Sorry but that just does not ‘fly’ with me! You stay and fight to make your; community, family, country better! We need to IMPOWER these parents by giving them their children BACK! Empower them to care enough about their CHILDREN to fight for their country!

.

Well… My Dear Readers… I simply cannot write anymore. I am in SO much pain and my left hand… well, it is just not cooperating anymore. I am spending more keystrokes correcting than writing. Thank you for coming by… I hope to see you here tomorrow FOR;

‘500th Article Celebration and Review – The Horror in Smithville’! Remember, at the end of tomorrow’s article there WILL BE an excerpt teaser!

.

Adieu!

.

Thank YOU!

The Dwarf Planets

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Today I am very happy to announce that this is my 500th article published here at The Other Shoe! I sit here in a state of complete amazement that in just four short years I have managed to write and publish Five Hundred articles for you, My Dear Readers. Though, I feel I must be candid, it is just in the last year that I feel my writing has come into its own.

.

With the publication of ‘The Horror in Smithville’ (now in its 13th part), ‘The Mars Report’ and ‘Lost Is Space’ (now with two “Gargantuan” editions, recently) I feel that this blog has ‘found its legs’. Over the past two months my readership has fluctuated right around Fifty unique visitors each and every week! Even with my daily struggles with pain, I manage to write and publish one a regular enough schedule.

.

For the next several days I will be putting my regularly scheduled articles on hiatus while I pen and publish reviews of my most popular series here at The Other Shoe. With my health and pain being my major concerns, I will work as hard as my body will allow, bringing you a series of five to six ‘review’ articles. Each one of these reviews will showcase one of the most popular of the many series here at The Other Shoe.

.

Today, I am going to start with an overview of one of the single most popular article series ever! ‘Lost In Space’! This article series started March 26th of this year, but recent editions have catapulted this series to the very top of my traffic reports!

.

With interest growing with each and every edition, this view of; our solar system, nearby stars, and universes near and far has captured the imagination of hundreds of you, My Dear Readers. This is the reason that I have decided to place ‘Lost In Space’ at the top of the list of article series to be reviewed for this 500th Article Published’ celebration!

.

Quite honestly the ‘Lost In Space’ series was started as a bit of a lark. I was desperately searching for something ‘new’ to help drive traffic. I realized that ‘The Mars Report’ enjoyed a certain amount of success, and wondered if another ‘space based’ series might fill the need and find a ‘sweet-spot’ for readers. Little did I image that, over just a matter of a few months, that this series would find its way to the top of my traffic reports! Then, to accomplish this feat in only twelve editions… well, that is a major accomplishment!

.

So, when it came time to pick which article series I was going to showcase… well, ‘Lost In Space’ was the very first to come to mind. In just the past two weeks I have published two “Gargantuan” editions of this fine article series. Each of these was over twelve pages in length and with at least a dozen images from all over our solar system. This article series may be one of the ‘new kids’ on the blog, but it has quickly some into its own!

.

Now, without further adieu… I give you a review of ‘Lost In Space’ here at The Other Shoe!

  • Lost in Space #1 – March 26th, 2014 : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Today, and with this article, I am launching a brand-new series of articles for The Other Shoe. As you can see from the title of this article the name of this all-new series is ‘Lost in Space’. Yes, I lifted the name from a TV series I very much enjoyed as a boy. However, every month I find more and more articles, about space, that just do not fit into ‘The Mars Report’. Therefore, from this day forward every article about space exploration, space flight, experimentations and space flight, the potential commercial colonization of Mars, and/or any other article I find about space will be found here every week in ‘Lost in Space’.” And, with that, the single most popular article series (to date) was born! Little did I know with within a few short months that this article series would leap to the top of my traffic reports, and find its way into the hearts and minds of so many adoring readers. Today, every week when I look at the traffic reports I find ‘Lost In Space’ either #1 or in the top THREE articles! My Dear Readers, if you have not been around for the past couple of weeks, the last two editions of this revered article series have each been ‘Gargantuan’ issues! Both issues with a dozen, or more, images and twelve to twenty pages in length! I am very happy to place this at the top of my ‘500th Article Review and Celebration’ this July 4th weekend!
  • Lost in Space – April 2nd, 2014 : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. A very special welcome, indeed, to this the second edition of ‘Lost in Space’! I am quite proud to announce that last week’s, premier, edition of this article helped spearhead the single largest increase in visitor traffic (at both locations) for my blog(s). It would seem, that I am not the only person that enjoys looking at beautiful images from outer space. Kudos to all of you, My Dear Readers, which visited between Wednesday and Sunday of last week as your visits helped. You helped propel my work to ever-growing levels of popularity. That’s a ‘Good Thing’!”
  • Lost In Space – April 9th, 2104 : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. My Dear Readers, it is not often that I take time to revel in my achievements, bathe in the glory of success. That changes, for today, now! Last week saw the second edition of this article series ‘Lost in Space – April 2nd, 2014’. By today, Sunday, this second edition has garnered more ‘Likes’ than the first. It is this success that I celebrate and enjoy. In the past two weeks I have painted this blog with stellar images from distances many can hardly conceive. Scrolling over my creation, I feel a sense of great joy and overwhelming pride.” It is here, My Dear Readers, that it has become clear that this article series was well on its way to occupying the #1 spot… the TOP spot on my blog. There is no arguing with ‘Likes’ or traffic reports. The numbers quickly showed that this series was on its way to the top… with a rocket!

  • Lost in Space – April 16th 2014 : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe, and welcome to this week’s edition of ‘Lost in Space’. As with every week, I have already picked out the images for your viewing pleasure. Boy, do I have a great batch of stellar eye-candy for you to view. Just like every other week, I have also done a bit of research for each image I present. Having said, I simply must tell you, My Dear Readers, that the universe around us is a wondrous place filled with amazing sights and incredible science.” With each and every passing week I bore witness to ever-growing numbers of readers of this wonderful series. Not only that, this article was pushing the traffic of my whole blog into, previously, unknown territory. I was seeing weekly traffic head up to, and passing, FIFTY unique visits per week!
  • Lost in Space – April 25th, 2014 : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Today I would like to welcome you to another fine edition of the space faring series ‘Lost in Space’! I have some pretty spectacular images, again, from the space telescope Hubble. As well, with each image I will do my best to share information about location, and what it is that we are looking at. However, before we get started today I would like to as just how many of you, My Dear Readers, have taken the plunge?” And, YOU, My Dear Readers, WERE “taking the plunge”! Every week I would sit amazed that the numbers… the visits and my readership continued to climb! This is just what I had always wanted for this blog… and you, My Dear Readers!
  • Lost In Space – NEW May 2nd, 2014 : “Welcome back MY Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. As well, a big ‘Other Shoe’ welcome to the very first May edition of ‘Lost in Space’! Fighting back a fever and sounding like I have gravel in my lungs, I am here to do my best at delivering another enjoyable edition of this wonderful article series. Today I have prepared four images from the Hubble Space Telescope and one video.”

  • Lost In Space – May 6th, 2014 : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. An amazing fact came to my attention, just today. You see… I have been In LOVE with; Space, Space Flight, Space Exploration, Space Images, Star Gazing, Star Maps… you get the idea, since I was like an aware human being. Like most star-nuts I have a favorite constellation. The amazing fact is that in all the editions of ‘Lost in Space’ I have not once featured my favorite constellation. Therefore, the image you see above addresses this shortcoming!”
  • Lost In Space – May 20th 2014 : “From that day forward, unfortunately, the Hubble Space Telescope is on its own. There will be no more repair or upgrade missions for this twenty-five year veteran of the space program. It is gravely unfortunate that the end of the ‘shuttle era’ also spells a certain end for this member of the NASA/JPL family. My Dear Readers, I promise that so long as Hubble transmits images from orbit I will share those images with you right here on a weekly basis.” Little did anyone know, at this point, but ‘Lost In Space’ was about to make a huge change! This was the last article, of this series, that lacked… direction. To this point I had just shared images that struck my fancy, from the Hubble Space Telescope. However, starting with the very next edition… we began our ‘Tour of Our Solar System’! This was a real turnaround for the article series, and I saw traffic only IMPROVE!
  • Lost in Space – Solar Tour #1 – Mercury : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Now, My Dear Readers, I promised a bit of a ‘Solar System Tour’ for this article series, many weeks ago. I explained that while I completely enjoyed showing all the wonderful images from the Hubble Space Telescope of galaxies near and far, I have long wanted to write and publish a tour of our solar system. That even now, in the 21st century, all too many people have never seen the most recent images of all the planets in our own solar system.” This was the very first of the ‘All New’ direction for this storied article series. From this point on, this series had a direction and it was well received by all of you, My Dear Readers!
  • Lost In Space – Tour of Our Solar System – #2 Venus : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Welcome to the second article in this series ‘Lost In Space – Solar System Tour – #2 Venus’. First, I would like to express my ‘Thanks’ to the NASA/JPL Magellan Team & Web Site[2] for all of the images shown here, today. Let’s start out with some of the basic facts and figures about our ‘Sister Planet’ Venus. Venus is named after the Roman Goddess of Love and Beauty. Babylonians in 1581 BCE did the first known observations of Venus. Previously known as both the ‘Morning Star’ and the ‘Evening Star’ it was the Babylonians that discovered that they were one in the same.”
  • Lost in Space – Tour of Our Solar System #3 : “We leave the orbit of the planet of our birth, to pull our Ship of the Stars into orbit of our nearest planet. Now, as many of you, My Dear Readers, know we visit this planet every single week. We visit with my series of articles names ‘The Mars Report’. Just click on the link, behind you, and check out the latest edition of this wonderful series. Now, we leave the orbit of Mars, headed for our next solar destination. However, to get to our next destination of Jupiter we must pass through the ‘Asteroid Belt’!” It is here, My Dear Readers, that the BIG change started for ‘Lost In Space’! Instead of going to: Earth… then Mars… then to the ‘Asteroid Belt’? I decided to turn our ‘Ship of the Stars’ towards the Outer Reaches of our solar system. This is the 1st of the ‘Gargantuan’ editions of this wonderful article series. As well, My Dear Readers, this is the article that really catapulted my blog’s traffic to previously unknown levels!
  • Lost In Space – Tour of Our Solar System #4 : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Today we resume our journey in our Ship of the Stars at the very edge of our solar system. We are here, out at the Kuiper Belt and the Oort Cloud and we turn our ship back towards the center of our solar system. Yet, before leaving My Dear Readers I want to spend some time here among the Kuiper Belt and the three ‘Dwarf Planets’ that make up the known parts of this distant sector of our solar system.” Another “Gargantuan” edition of ‘Lost In Space’ thanks to the huge subject matter I picked. The ‘Kuiper Belt’ and the ‘Oort Cloud’ are the largest… areas(?)… sections(?)… PARTS of our solar system. The Oort Cloud, by itself, is larger than the whole area taken up by all of the ‘Terrestrial’ planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars). As a matter of fact the ‘Oort Cloud’ extends to nearly HALF the distance to the NEXT STAR! I know evry difficult to wrap your head around the sizes that exist at the outer reaches of our solar system! Thankfully, the next several editions will be about single planets. They will be about the largest of the planets… the ‘Jovian’ Gas Giants!

.

That, My Dear Readers, brings us to the end of this review of ‘Lost In Space’. In just twelve issues, this series has managed to push itself to the #1 position on traffic reports and readership. Right now we are at the outer reaches of our solar system. Here among the Dwarf Planets of the Kuiper Belt and the stellar gases and debris of the Oort Cloud we find the very building blocks of the terrestrial and Jovian worlds.

.

In upcoming issues we will keep moving, in our ‘Ship of the Stars’ back through the Jovian planets and then to the terrestrial planets. I hope that everyone keeps coming back to enjoy the continuing journey of our ‘Ship of the Stars’! It is the real success of this series that has gained it the position of #1 in this the ‘500th Article Review & Celebration’!

.

My Dear Readers this is the very first article of this wonderful celebration of the publication of my ‘Five Hundredth Article’ published here at The Other Shoe! I must admit… I am really surprised that I have managed to write and publish 500 articles. That I have managed to meet this lofty goal in just four years? Is a tribute to my deeply held desire to inform and entertain you, My Dear Readers.

.

I hope that you, My Dear Readers, enjoy this article… this celebration and choose to ‘Like’ and ‘Share’ this article and this blog! Every week I work, very hard, to increase readership and attendance here at my blog. My Dear Readers, I an not sure if you realize… that every single time that you ‘Like’ and ‘Share’ my work… my articles… my blog… it goes out and out and out! It is seen by an every growing and ever widening group of people.

.

That means that more and more people have the opportunity to read and enjoy this blog and my work. I am very proud of the work that I do here… and I work to keep the quality of my work the best! I take a great deal of pride in my work, in the articles I write and publish. I hope that every day… every week.. and every month my desire to publish the best shows through!

.

Adieu!

.

Thank YOU!

A Week in Review – June 21st, 2014

Danny Hanning of The Other Shoe - May 6th, 2014

Danny Hanning of The Other Shoe – May 6th, 2014

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Today, Saturday, is a great day for all of you, My Dear Readers, to catch up. Catch up on reading all the great articles that I have written, and published, right here at The Other Shoe over the past seven days. I know that a great may of you do not have the ‘free time’ to read my articles (and storied) during the workweek. That is THE reason I (originally) created ‘A Week in Review’ and why (today) I continue to write and publish this weekly review.

.

For my blog, and all of you My Dear Readers, it has been a ‘good’ and productive week. Including this article I have written and published seven articles in seven days. Now, I have read comments that ‘that really isn’t all that much writing…’ Rest assured when I tell you that is a good deal of writing! Not just anyone can sit behind a keyboard and, in just seven days, produce more than seventy pages of; stories, articles; on Space Exploration, Hubble images from far-flung universes, current affairs and international news, political logjams’ and achievements, and a horror story.

.

‘The Horror in Smithville’ (alone) is well over 95 pages in length, 220, 000 characters and 50,000 words. Each, and every, ‘A Week in Review’ is over ten pages long and contains nearly a dozen links to other content. As well, My Dear Readers, it is not just the writing. During the week I research many topics, sift through dozens of images (for ‘Lost in Space’ and ‘The Mars Report’), and work and rework political articles in an effort to be as factually correct as possible and to try to not offend ANY of my readers.

.

Please do not get me ‘wrong’, I am not complaining… I am just explaining. The work I do is very tiring and, more times than not, makes my pain condition worse never better. Yet, I do not know what I would do with my time if I wasn’t working on these articles, stories and reviews. I just love the work I do here at The Other Shoe. The pain I experience, the physical limitations I have and the declining nature of my disease state causes a great deal of depression. I take ‘medications’ for my depression, but the one thing that works better than any/all my anti-depression medications? A single; comment, question, ‘Like’, ‘Share’ and/or ‘Kudos’ on any of the articles I write and publish each week.

.

Every time I go to the primary location for my blog (www.theothershoe.blog.com) and see the counter has gone above 50!?! I am just ecstatic! To think that more than fifty people, in the last week, have come to my blog and looked at or read my work? Makes me feel like I just might be able to make a difference in the world I live in, still! That I might, still, be able to make people laugh! And, to think for just a moment… just a single moment that my words light help another person see and issue through the eyes of another? THAT gives my life new meaning!

.

So, you now have a better idea just why it is I do all this writing and publishing. I want to help to inform and entertain people; family, friends, loved ones and all my followers here at The Other Shoe and Facebook. Yes… and someday…of course… I would just love to have something of my own to be published in a book or magazine! That will always be the dream, My Dear Readers!

.

Now that I have shared a little of what drives me, and keeps me writing and publishing every week. It is time for another edition of ‘A Week in Review’.

.

  • Notes From Behind the Keyboard – June 16th, 2014: “Yet, today was different. I was extremely panicked upon waking and asked Allen to “turn on the lights… something is wrong!” Much to my chagrin, and Allen’s surprise, when he turned on the lights he discovered that my lips were blue… as was much of my facial complexion. So much so that Allen (usually stoic… almost indifferent) actually gasped when he looked at my face, with the light turned on. Allen then informed me “Danny… I think you stopped breathing. I heard you gasping, again, and I got up to wake you up.” Allen is visibly… shaken; this gave me the chills because Allen just doesn’t show emotions, like, ever.” To this day I have NO idea just what is going on with me at night. Allen has worked every single day since that hospital visit, I hope that soon he can help me get to the doctor I as given a referral. Barring that, I just sleep as light as I can… and (most of the time) sleep with one eye open. Allen is not sleeping very heavy, either. In just the past two nights I have had three bouts of the ‘gasping while sleeping’ and BOTH time Allen awoke quickly and came right over to my bed to check on me! I simply do not know what I would do without Allen. I not only love him more than anyone or anything in the world… I trust him with my very life! This was NOT a good way to start the week… and, looking back, I am really surprised that I manage to finish seven articles in the same week Monday started this way!
  • Lost In Space – Tour of Our Solar System – #2 Venus : “Venus is known as the ‘Sister Planet’ of Earth. This is due to the fact that Venus is closest to Earth in; size, orbit of the sun, gravity and bulk composition. Venus orbits the sun in just 224.7 days. Now, most planets in our solar system rotate, on their axis, in an anti-clockwise direction, also known as a retrograde rotation or ‘orbit’. Further, Venus rotates the slowest of all the planets taking a full 243 Earth Days to complete on rotation. That means that a single day on Venus would last 243 days.” Well, My Dear Readers, this ‘Solar System Tour’ is being very well received by you! It is a lot of work, every week. Sorting through dozens of pages of images, picking which images I think will go best with the article. Downloading the images on to my computer, then resizing the images so they ‘fit’ on the blog page, uploading the images to my blog, then adding them to the text of the article. There is, also, writing of the dozen of so pages of information, news, and background information on each of the planets. However, you would not believe just how much I am LEARNING while I am writing and publishing this ‘Tour of OUR Solar System’! Next week… MARS!
  • The Mars Report – June 18th, 2014 : “On April 18th 2014 Opportunity managed to get some great landscape images of Endeavour Crater Rim from ‘Murray Ridge’. You, My Dear Readers, are very fortunate in that I have downloaded, and am going to share, two different versions of this wonderful landscape image. The difference between the two images is that one (the first) is in ‘True Color’. Meaning, in natural daylight on the Martian surface, the image has been enhanced for better viewing. The second image is done in what is called ‘False Color’. This means that the good people at NASA/JPL have done their best to reproduce the image in ‘Natural Earth Light’. So, if we were to ‘see’ this landscape on Earth, the second image is how it would look here in Earth light.” When I started writing the very first edition of ‘The Mars Report’ (I must admit) I had NO idea that I would still be writing and publishing this series three years later. I started this series with Opportunity and Spirit rovers. Took a bit of a break when Spirit ‘died’, then came back to this series with renewed vigor when Curiosity landed at ‘Bradbury Landing’! Now, each and every week I really look forward to going to the NASA/JPL web site and scouring the site for new and interesting images. Sometimes the number of images are few, but some real science has happened, since the last article. I have a ‘Good Feeling’ about this series, now. I have a feeling that I will be writing and publishing this series when we celebrate the Second 500 articles!
  • Notes from Behind the Keyboard – June 19th, 2014 : “Since my neurosurgeon did not order the correct number of bone graft pieces prior to surgery, one or more bone grafts were not properly prepared prior to implantation into my neck. As seen in follow-up X-Rays the “bone grafts did not fully knit” the my bones. This is the reason that, now, seven years later I still have popping, and grinding sounds coming from my cervical spine, shooting pains in; my upper chest, face, upper left arm, lower left arm, left hand. What this means is that the bone grafts never “completely knit” with the surrounding bone (mine), that the structure is not solid and “durable”.” Long story short? (TOO LATE!) My neurosurgeon underestimated the extend of damage my degenerative disc disease had actually caused to my cervical spine, discs and nerve roots. This caused him to enter the OR less prepared than he need to be, and more overwhelmed by the severity of my condition. Combine that with an untrained vendor representative from the ‘Bone Growth Stimulation’ device and (unknown at the time) a severely diminished level of Vitamin ‘D’ in my blood stream? = Poorly knit bones, unstable construct resulting in spinal stenosis, more nerve root damage and possible growing pressure on my spinal cord. The last neurosurgeon I had a consult with, told me that ‘your condition will, likely, NEVER improve… you will spend the rest of your life on pain medications… you will loose more and more bodily functions until you will be unable to walk, use the bathroom, take a bath or brush your teeth without assistance…” That is NOT my image of what one’s ‘Golden Years’ should be like. I have no choice; I just pray and work hard so that just maybe I will earn enough money to make this terrible future more bearable.
  • The Horror in Smithville – REVIEW – First Eleven Episodes: “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. I would like to extend a deep and heartfelt “Welcome!” to everyone! To this, the third review of ‘The Horror in Smithville’. Today I am here to present; a short introduction, a little teaser, and a link to all of the First ELEVEN Episodes of this wonderful tale. Now, if you are just now joining the ranks of My Dear Readers, you might not know that this is my very first venture into the genre of horror. I have chosen to make this first, a story for young people. However, from what I am hearing (from many of you, My Dear Readers) is that this tale is enjoyed by adults and young adults, alike.” Twice a month I will publish another review, just like this one. This will enable people ‘new’ to the blog and this story a quick and easy way to catch up with the story. My Dear Readers, HONESTLY… when I started this episodic horror story? I NEVER imaged that so many people, from all over the world, would enjoy it SO much! As well, this story has… GROWN on me. Timmy and Archer have GROWN on me… and this whole story just keep getting bigger and bigger in my mind and in my heart. I am, already, ‘seeing’ more and more books! I can see this one story ending… then US returning to Timmy and Archer just a couple or a few years down the line, for yet another adventure in their alternate world! A couple of things… I am still working on the name of the other world. Two, the Latin in this story is giving me FITS! I have not ‘used’ Latin since High School. I used to be fairly versed in the Latin… not anymore. Just as soon as possible I WILL have all the Latin worked out for the; spells, enchants, and ceremonies. My Dear Readers, I want you to know that I am having a WONDERFUL time bringing this horror story to you, and yours!
  • News From Around the World – June 19th, 2014 : “Now, let us proceed with this edition of “News from Around the World’. Today were are going to drop by L.A., Spain, Washington state, and Washington D.C. for a jaunty romp through the headlines. Every week I rummage through headlines to find some of the stories not covered by the network news, and a new take on some that were. Honestly, there were more stories to cover this week, than I had time to properly prepare the article. So, let’s jump right in and get our feet wet!” This is another article series that I started on a lark, which has managed to work its way into the rotation as a ‘regular’. It was worked its way into my mind and into my heart. This is another way for me to share some of my humanist views, without getting all political. Don’t get me wrong! I very much enjoy politics. However, at this point in time politics is being used all to often to DIVIDE people. Therefore, I am doing my best to address POLICY and leaving POLITICS off to the side! Thank you Kathye Warfiedl Rogers for YOUR input on that, it was instrumental in me finding a way to have a voice on policy without upsetting the people I respect and love! Thank you!
  • The Horror in Smithville – Part TWELVE! : “The adventures of Timmy and Archer are as real, and come from my own personal experiences, as any thing I have ever written. There are moments, several of them, which you will be reading today that were literally taken out of my memories as a young man. As an extra special treat, for everyone out there from Pearland Texas, (and everyone that has known me and my scholastic life) there is a very special ‘Guest Appearance’ in today’s episode by someone we all dearly loved.” It is with GREAT pride that I present to you, My Dear Readers, THIS the 12th episode of my wonderfully entertaining FIRST venture into the Horror Genre; “The Horror in Smithville’! With each and every passing week, I am continually amazed at what situations Timmy and Archer get themselves involved… then, just how they manage to extricate their happy butts! I refuse to tell you anything from this episode! There is just no way I can share… without ruining the suspense and thrills that are this episode. However, I will tell you that I have included (in this episode) a Very Special ‘Guest Appearance’ by someone that everybody knew and respected back in Pearland, Texas. I am very proud that he is making an appearance in this story! I REALLY hope that EVERYONE that I know, from Pearland, makes the time to come and read this episode and see ‘who’ it is that I picked for this Special ‘Guest Appearance’. Thanks!

.

That, My Dear Readers, brings us to the end of another edition of ‘A Week IN Review’ right here at ‘The Other Shoe’! I am thrilled to have managed to write and publish another full week of seven articles in seven days. I really hope that everyone takes the time… makes the time to look over all of these fine works. To; look at the pictures, enjoy the stories, be challenged by the information and view into the lives and worlds of others.

.

Yet, if I had but one wish? I would be to do all this work… and be more comfortable, in less pain, get more sleep, and have the means to enjoy the life I have… left. I refuse to beg for that which would make my life more livable. What little I have I thank God for his kindness in giving. I work just as hard as I possibly can, with the physical and neurological limitations I now experience. I do my best to keep my pain out of mind, and be thankful for every moment of life I have left.

.

If I may? I would please, My Dear Readers, ask (respectfully) would you please ‘SHARE’? Share my work on Facebook. Share my posts on Facebook or My Space or Pinintrest or Tumblr. I do NOT do this out of vanity. Rather I do this because I DO believe that my work… is enjoyable and I have a genuine desire to entertain! As well, the more people my stories reach? The more likely it is that… someday I might be able to help to financially support myself!

.

I am, physically, unable to return to work. As my last neurosurgeon told me and documented? It is completely unlikely that I will ever be able to return to the work force. That my condition will only worsen, and that in the coming years… I will loose more and more physical abilities, and neurological abilities. (I will feel less, have les control over my body) I would just like it if I was in a better financial position… when that happens. I think that any/all Americans would want the same for themselves and their loved ones.

.

My Dear Readers, that brings us to the end of the week, the end of this article, and the end of another full week here at The Other Shoe!

.

Adieu!

.

Thank YOU!

.

Notes From Behind the Keyboard – May 26th 2014

Danny

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. I hope that everyone is enjoying their Memorial Day three-day weekend! I am spending mine waiting to see if and when I will be able to publish at the primary location for my publications… the other The Other Shoe. JWhile I am waiting I am playing a little World of Warcraft and catching up with some old online friends.

.

Yes, from what I have seen (over at blog dot com) it appears as though they are working to bring back my blog. If that is the case, you should ‘see’ me ramping up production on a large number of articles, including (but not limited to) ‘The Horror in Smithville’! I have about the next five of six episodes already plotted out in my head. It is just a matter of sitting behind the keyboard and taking the adventure with Timmy and Archer… Oh, yeah, and writing it down as we go along. J

.

By now, I am sure that NASA/JPL have provided a good deal more images from Curiosity on Mars. So, just as soon as I have sorted through all the images they have posted I will be bringing you at least one edition of ‘The Mars Report’. Not to leave out the universe beyond our Solar System, I will be wandering over to the Hubble Space Telescope web site and digging through all the newer images there, too.

.

Once that venture is complete you can expect to see an ‘All NEW’ edition of ‘Lost In Space’! That should take us to about Thursday or Friday… which segways me nicely to the next subject at hand. My Dear Readers, I am having some second thoughts about the series ‘The Deep Web’. Here is my thinking: I would just hate for any of you, My Dear Readers, to venture into the ‘Deep Web’ and end up getting harmed. I would/could not forgive myself. With that in mind I am, for the time being, mothballing the entire series. Until I can share with you, My Dear Readers, a better and more secure way to venture forth into this other part of the World Wide Web? I cannot, in good conscience, share information on how to get there and play in that world.

.

That leaves me, us, with a big hole at the end of the week in our line up. I am knocking around a lot of ideas of what to put at the end of the week. I am really thinking of adding a regular article series on PC Gaming! I enjoy PC Gaming so very much… and the series ‘MMORPGs And YOU!’ was a resounding success. I am going to toss around ideas, for the rest of the week, but do not be surprised if (come Friday) you do see a reposting of ‘MMORPGs And YOU!’ here at The Other Shoe. That would mean that I have decided to make Fridays PC Gaming days here at The Other Shoe.

.

That brings us to the end of this little update and venture Behind the Keyboard. Again, I hope that everyone is taking the time to relax and enjoy this three-day weekend. Spend it with people you love, doing something that you enjoy. It is times, like these, where we make the memories that last a lifetime. If you have the chance? Make a New Friend! One can never have too many good friends, eh?

.

Thank YOU!

Coming This Week To The Other Shoe – April 13th 2014

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Welcome to my weekly preview article for The Other Shoe. Each week I tip my hand and give you all, My Dear Readers, a preview of the articles I have planned for publication over the next seven days. Now, you may have noticed that the past two weeks were devoid of ‘Sunday Funnies’.

.

This is simply because Alexander has not done anything… entertaining while I had my camera handy. I apologize for this shortcoming. However, rest assured that the article series IS still viable and just as soon as my camera and his antics cross, we will have another edition of ‘Sunday Funnies’. Now, let me ask you, My Dear Readers, if there is anyone out there that is handy with a pen or pencil and paper.

.

I am looking for an amateur cartoonist or someone that is just handy with a pencil or pen. I can provide the narrative or captions, all I need is someone to provide the people… even stick figures. I am looking to replace Alexander, in the ‘Sunday Funnies’, with a weekly political cartoon or animation. If your fit the bill contact me via Facebook, this blog or any way you see fit. Joe Tilbury, if you are still out there and can still draw? Contact me, k? It pays NOTHING, so far. However, just as soon as this blog makes a profit I will cut you in for a share.

.

Now, for the upcoming week. I can promise that there will be another edition of; ‘The Mars Report’, ‘Lost in Space’, ‘The Horror in Smithville’, ‘Coming this Week’ and ‘A Week in Review’. Beyond that I am not really sure, My Dear Readers. As you all know, by now, I will do my very best to make sure I write all the regular articles. As well, when I have the time and my body is not preventing me, I will do my best to bring even more articles. I have been toying with several ‘New Series’ and bringing back so older article series.

.

‘MMORPGs And YOU!’ May well be making a come back with the arrival of ‘Elder Scrolls On Line’. Launched late last month, I have yet to be able to afford; the game, game time or any ‘Beta’ or promotional copy of the game. Unfortunately, I do not see any resolution to this dilemma on the horizon. Rest assured, just as soon as I have a copy of the game, I will get it installed, updated and get into the game. Once in-game I will make; ‘In-Game Videos’, take tons of screenshots, and write up outlines of the crafting procedures, the plot based questing and an evaluation of the PvP (player vs. player) part of the game. I really hope to get this together, for your viewing and enlightenment, just as quickly as is humanly possible.

.

The Elder Scrolls is a wonderful intellectual property. It is being brought to the MMROPG world by Zenimax and Bethesda the people that brought us one of the GREATEST RPGs of the twentieth century, ‘Fallout’ and ‘Fallout – New Vegas’. With these two companies working on the Elder Scrolls IP I have great faith it will be a very enjoyable game. I do wonder… why they didn’t convert ‘Fallout’ from RPG to MMORPG… but I will take Elder Scrolls and run with it. Now, if there is anyone that might want to sponsor my work… a benefactor to assit me obtaining the game for purposes of writing and sharing on this blog. Please contact me as I will do pretty much anything… in return for sponsorship.

.

Last, My Dear Readers, I have (already scheduled) an appointment with an Infectious Disease physician on Tuesday. I am working to get a BUN/Creatnine test scheduled on Monday or Wednesday. Further, I simply must get a C.T with Contrast scheduled as quickly as possible. My follow-up visit with Dr. Gorlick is May 6th and I would very much like to have all the results prior. If I get these tests scheduled for this week, that will put a big dent in my ability to get all regular articles written and published this week. Barring the postponement till next week, of some of the; tests, scans and appointments. Then I will be able to meet all my writing/publishing deadlines.

.

Well, My Dear Readers, that brings us to the very end of this week’s preview article. I am really looking forward to the coming week of writing and publishing. OH! I totally forgot! When it comes to Part SIX of ‘The Horror in Smithville’… remember… we left off with Timmy in a GRAVEYARD! Oui! That was quite a cliff-hanger, huh? We know that the next adventure starts in a graveyard… that has so much potential! A little spoiler… the first five parts… are the most mellow out of the whole story! Upcoming will be parts that I will assure you push the very limits of juvenile fiction. There may come a time when many of my readers… refuse to allow their children to read the work.

.

It will not be; sexual, ultra-violent… but it will be; bloody, gory and fairly violent. As I have been working out the upcoming episodes… the plot development… the character development. Well, the story is taking me in unexpected directions with unexpected results. I do promise that I will warn all readers prior to the start of an episode of any above PG-13 content. I cannot simply tell you the images, or acts, that I have planned. However, I can tell you there will be physical violence that will scare and frighten.

.

There, that brings us to the end of this wonderful preview of the articles to come in the following week at The Other Shoe. I would like to thank you for coming by and taking a look see. I hope that you enjoyed getting a ‘heads-up’ of the week to come… I hope that I can count on YOU for being here for some great reading over the next seven days.

.

ENJOY!

Coming This Week, to The Other Shoe – April 6th, 2014

.

Daneil Hanning of The Other Shoe 2001

Daneil Hanning of The Other Shoe 2001

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. As well, welcome to this the third edition of what is now a regular here, ‘Coming This Week’. It is in this series I preview the articles to come in the following week. Now, My Dear Readers, I am just coming off one of the single most prolific week’s in recent memory, here at The Other Shoe. With the publication of nine articles, in just seven days, last week. I have my sincere doubts of my ability to produce nine articles this week, too.

.

How does that old saying go; ‘The mind is willing, the flesh is weak’. That is very much the case for me, and this coming week. Just reviewing my sourcesfor material. I can quickly see that I will have sufficient materials for; ‘The Mars Report’ and ‘Lost in Space’. A quick visit to NASA and JPL shows that Curiosity has delivered so fresh images for your review. Already late, here today… Sunday, I am tempted to engage in beginning day after tomorrow (Monday’s) edition of ‘The Mars Report’.

.

Curiosity has reached the approach to its next way point; ‘The Kimberly. As well, I am not sure if you saw this in the news. Mars is the closest, to the Earth, that it has been in over two years. For the next several days, even with your bare eyes, we will be treated to some of the best views of Mars in years .

.

The distance between our Earth and our sister planet, Mars, can be as much as 250 million miles. However, starting on the 8thof this April Mars will approach Earth and only be 56 million miles away. That is, roughly, 1/5th the distance for the next few days. For all of us in the Northern hemisphere you can find Mars, just after dusk, hanging close to the Moon. For more on this event, and how and when it is best to view, be sure to check out ‘The Mars Report’ on Monday.

.

You can look forward to an all new edition of ‘Lost in Space’ for your reading pleasure. Form just a cursory search of potential images, I have found several that are just as spectacular, and maybe even more. As always, I will include background information, some of the science involved, and links to all the sources and more. I really have fallen in love, with this series of articles, and writing and publishing brings me great joy.

.

This coming week will bring us yet another edition of ‘The Deep Web’ for your edification and review. I am hoping to have made the time, and effort, to nail down everything you need to know to create a ‘Virtual Machine’ on your Windows computer. By creating a virtual machine you create a whole new shell between your computer and the ‘Black Hats’ that there dewll.

.

Coming to the end of next week, already, you can look forward to more thrills and chills with the publication of the Second Half of Part Four. Part Four of ‘The Horror in Smithville’, which I hope to conclude, will take up just where we left off with the boys; Timmy and Archer. After falling asleep way too early, the found themselves sharing a dream. A dream that brought them terror, and fears they did not know. Unsuspecting, they will climb back in bed. Shut their eyes and retire, with visions of Blueberry cobbler in their heads. It will not be sweets, that they encounter once asleep. I will not share spoilers, I will just say. Their night of terror, and horror, has only just begun!

.

Well, My Dear Readers, that brings us fully round. Another week of fine reading, only here at The Other Shoe, is to be found. Now, all I ask, in return for these fine works, is that you PLEASE SHARE what you have found. Share with family, share with friends. Share with co-workers and In-Laws, both favored and not. Share with church goers, and neighbors… and even strangers around. For all that I do, all that I research, all that I download and upload. For all that I write and edit and, finally, publish for you.

.

I only ask that you make it well known, that my work… you do enjoy. I am trying, so very hard indeed, to grow my readership from just me and just you. This past week, for the very first time ever. I saw my visitor counter go up to 59! That is the highest I have ever seen, this counter to show. Now, I am afraid, I am possessed to see if we can do better in the weeks to come. I would give just anything, for this counter to show, One HUNDERED visitors to The Other Shoe they did come. This goal, I am afraid, cannot be met by just me… and you.

.

I will tell you quite honestly, that the world it would mean to me, for this counter to venture closer to triple digits. With my health failing, my pain increasing great happiness it would bring. To think that 100 readers, I did bring. So, I beseech of you, My Dear Readers, to assist if you will. In a tiny competition, this week, for most visitors I will.

.

And, with those words and that challenge, I leave you this day. This preview of coming entertainment and images, I hope you enjoyed. Thank you for your time, and you efforts. I hope to see you, again, soon.

.

As always I am deeply honored that you come here and read my work.

.

Thank YOU!

Coming This Week – March 30/31st, 2014

The Other Shoe's Daniel Hanning

The Other Shoe’s Daniel Hanning 2/2014

Welcome back My Dear Reader to The Other Shoe. Well now, I would usually write and publish this article on Monday. Yet, something just caught my eye, and I just had to share it with you, My Dear Readers. If you are reading this article on Sunday March 30th, 2014 (or have visited and read articles between Friday March 28th and Sunday March 30th), you are taking part in the single largest influx of visitors my blogs have ever seen. Yes, I have two locations for The Other Shoe. The primary blog located at blog.com and secondary located at wordpress.com. I saw secondary only because it was the second location of my blog launched. Remember, I do everything at both blog locations. Writing, editing, publishing, promotions… everything.

.

On Friday March 28th, the secondary location (at wordpress.com) reached an all time high at eighteen visitors in one day. The following day, March the 29th, my primary blog location (blog.com) had an all time high of twenty-two visitors in one day. Yes, I know… in the grand scheme of things… that is not a lot of visitors. Although, for a my blog… Well, I am proud to announce this news. See, I have Google Analytics monitoring my blog.com location and the sister location at WordPress provides their own analytics, that I check regularly. For those of you, My Dear Readers, that have been with me for awhile, two or more years out of the past four.

.

You will know that I used to publish a series of articles where I shared the results of the analytics. I did this for three years, then I just stopped. I am not too sure as to why. Honestly, it always felt a bit too much like… bragging. Showing off and… well, that is just not me. I am proud when my efforts merit. However, and you can ask anyone that I went to Middle, High School or college with… I do not like to brag, about myself.

.

I am very proud of the traffic I experienced this week, at both blogs. Now, I have worked extremely hard these past three weeks at writing and publishing quality content on a regular basis. Just over the past three weeks I have introduced FOUR new article series. I hope that it is these new articles series that are driving this increase in traffic, and not some factor that I cannot replicate.

.

Now, I would like to share with you, My Dear Readers, what I have planned for the coming week, here at The Other Shoe. Monday, would have… should have seen the publication of this article. However, since I wanted everyone to know (they are part of a historic weekend of traffic), I am not really sure exactly what I will write… tomorrow. I would not be surprised if you saw a new edition of ‘The Mars Report’ or ‘Lost in Space’. Let me tell you all that those two series are the most difficult for me to publish. Writing them is not very difficult. In fact, I greatly enjoy creating the narrative for the images I choose. It is the; downloading of, uploading of, embedding of, and choosing of these images that is quite difficult. I am not complaining, just explaining.

.

This week you, My Dear Readers, will be privy to; an all new episode of ‘The Horror in Smithville’. The boys have… fallen… yeah, right… ‘fallen’ to sleep… and we all know what happens when young boys fall asleepon a rainy night full of thunder and lightening. Next, you will be treated with a new edition of (both); ‘The Mars Report’ and ‘Lost in Space’. Well, that is what I have written right here in my day planner for writing. Yes, I have a writing schedule written out in my day planner.

.

Coming up next will be an all new issue of ‘The Deep Web’. This edition will get a bit more technical, and once done… you will be better prepared to venture into the dark and deep web than ever before. Finally, you will enjoy another episode of your regulars; ‘A Week in Review’ and ‘Sunday Funnies’. Now, I think that I have mentioned it before, I am looking for a political cartoonist. I simply cannot pay, but anyone that would like the practice and exposure for their work, I am looking for someone to add to my ‘Sunday Funnies’ with political cartoons.

.

That brings us to the end of the week of articles, and to the end of this preview of the coming week. FYI – Wednesday afternoon I do have a doctor’s appointment to look at a… ‘growth’ on my jawbone. If that goes poorly… it may negatively impact my writing schedule. However, if it goes well.. then I just might be of the temperament to write additional works not mentioned in this preview.

.

Well, My Dear Readers that brings us to the end of this week’s ‘Coming This Week’. I hope that you have all enjoyed the previews of what is to come… and I hope that you all enjoy the fact that (if you are here on Sunday) you, My Dear Readers, have been part of the single largest influx of visitor traffic in the history of my blogs.

.

As always I am deeply honored that you came here and read my work.

.

Thank YOU!

.

This series will be brief. In it I will preview what articles you can come to expect, in the following week. This way all of you, My Dear Readers, can make plans to drop by and read upcoming favorites like; ‘The Horror in Smithville’, ‘The Deep Web’, and ‘The Mars Report’. Knowing that a ‘new’ episode of your favorite article will peak interest, and (hopefully) improve traffic.

.

So, what is coming for next week> For the week on March 24th, 2014 I have planned; Part Two of ‘The Deep Web’, another episode of ‘The Horror in Smithville’, an all new episode of ‘The Mars Report’ and news and political updates as they occur. A Week in Review – March 15th, 2014

.

Daniel Hanning of The Other Shoe

Daniel Hanning of The Other Shoe

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. If it is Saturday then it is time for ‘A Week in Review’ here at The Other Shoe! Even with my health giving me fits, I managed to publish six articles, including this article. We saw another episode of ‘The Horror in Smithville’ and the very first edition of my introduction to the darker side of the web, The Deep Web. So, before my fever gets any higher, and without further adieu I bring you this week’s edition of ‘A Week in Review’!

.

  • ·        Sunday Funnies – March 9th, 2014 : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. It is 9PM on Saturday March 8th, 2014. I have been sitting here and working on my blog… ‘A Week in Review’… an update article… adding a video to an already posted article… and corrections to ‘The Horror in Smithville” for the past FIVE HOURS! I am extremely tired and the pain in my neck is horrific. The only reason that I am writing this right now… not waiting until Sunday… If I can finish it today and get it posted and scheduled for publication? I can REST until Sunday afternoon!” With gunk building in my chest, and flirting with a regular fever. I do not think there will be a ‘’Sunday Funnies’ for you to enjoy this Sunday. Apologies all around, and things could change… Let’s see if Alexander engages in any antics, tonight!
  • ·        March 10th Personal/Medical Update and Blog Status :  “My Dear Readers just prior to the first onset of my respiratory infection? The traffic at just the primary location of my blog was peaking at about 150 visitors per week. That is an average of twenty visitors per day, but some days (of course) saw more traffic. I understand… I accept the reality of blogging. I understand the fickle nature of traffic and the genuine need of people for new content. Whereas I do not mean to judge, really I am the same way. I am a ‘news junkie’ and I read three to four different sources for news every single day. Not six months ago I would watch MSNBC non-stop from 7AM until 7PM six days a week.” Since I published this update, earlier this week, my condition has not improved. I am looking for a doctor, with an open appointment soon. Once I see an infectious disease specialist, and get their results. I will publish what has crawled inside me, and turned into death.
  • ·        Introduction to The Deep Web – Part One : “The Deep Web is the other part of the internet (world wide web) that most of you, My Dear Readers, have never (and will likely never need to) access The Deep Web. Now, you may well ask “How do you know if I have, or haven’t, used The Deep Web?” Good question answered quite easily. Have you installed ‘Tor’ on you computer? If you answered “No” then I am correct that you have never accessed The Deep Web. Conversely, if you answered either “Yes” or “Not Tor, but another Deep Web Browser” then I was incorrect in my statement.” The Deep Web is not for the average user, and one can really get taken advantage of in short order if care is not exercised. Next week I will go over some precautions that you can take to protect you while venturing into this darker corner of the World Wide Web.
  • ·        The Horror in Smithville – Part Two : “We are getting to know Timmy and Archer, and the Marref family, in these first few pages. Currently, we are building to the much-anticipated ‘Marref Family Chicken Dinner’. To be followed, shortly thereafter, with an evening of a little homework, a little television, then off to bed… and an extended night of talking and planning under the cover of darkness… and their respective beds.” Welcome to the second episode of my venture into the horror genre. AS it clearly states here, we are getting to know all about our main characters, twain. In next week’s episode… perhaps some horror we shall read? Only one way to know for sure, be there and read!
  • ·        Pope Francis – First year as Pontiff : “Yesterday, on the event of the anniversary of his first year as the Vicar of Christ, Pope Francis tweeted “Please pray for me” to his millions of followers. I, personally, received his tweet… and immediately answered his request. My Dear Readers, for all of you that knew me; in Pearland, in college, as a young man, and even in Colorado Springs, you know that I am not a religious man. I have attended church, off and on, all my life. I have attended; Lutheran churches, Methodist churches, The Church of Christ, The Church of England, and even three different synagogues. However, there is something different about Pope Francis. Something that speaks to me on a very base level, he speaks to my soul.” Pope Francis is the single most timely Pope in modern times. His messages about; financial inequality, the fallacy of ‘Trickle Down Economics’ and America’s love affair with greed are much needed. While a vocal few will take pot shots at this Pope, and still other’s prattle how “He’s not my Pope”, all in vain efforts to avoid the truth. Time will tell that this man… this Pope dared to lecture mankind, and one nation in particular, about the disgusting level of greed and corresponding poverty.

.

With that, My Dear Readers, I leave. Leave to get some much-needed rest, and even to sleep. My health just keeps failing me, yet I will push and work to bring as much as I can in any given week. This blog means the world to me, as all of you do, too. Hopefully, soon, I will know the source of my malady.

.

I will be here, next week… and the week after, too. Here’s to another great week right here at The Other Shoe!

.

As always I am deeply honored that you come here and read my works.

.

Thank YOU!
