The Return… ?

             danny-5-2015-4[2].jpg

.

Welcome back, My Dear Shoevians, to ‘The Other Shoe’!  It has been several months, perhaps even a year or more, since I have posted on a regular basis. I am hoping that, with the publication of this article, that is all about to change. Honestly, My Dear Shoevians, I have felt the deep desire to return to writing and publishing from the night Hillary Clinton lost the election to a second-rate-reality-TV-star. However, my health had hampered that effort. My health has not improved, since I made that decision, but my desire to speak out has beat out my pain and discomfort.

.

Everyone that read my articles, and stories, over the past thirteen year, knows my personal politics. Knows that I support a financially conservative/socially liberal administration. I believe that it is the responsibility, of all Presidents, to work (for the American people) to reign in frivolous spending and work to keep our national taxation progressive and not regressive. Now, I am going to take a few lines to explain the different categories of taxation. I do this not to insinuate that any reader does not know this already, merely to make sure that we all are on the same page. So far as nomenclature.

.

progressive tax—A tax that takes a larger percentage of income from high-income groups than from low-income groups. proportional tax—A tax that takes the same percentage of income from all income groups. regressive tax—A tax that takes a larger percentage of income from low-income groups than from high-income groups.” [1]

.

We are now, nearly, to the two year point in this administration and one thing is abundantly clear. This President is the opposite of everything I think our representative democracy should be. He is socially conservative and fiscally liberal. And, that it just the tip of the iceberg, when it comes to the problems I have with this President and his administration.

.

Over the next few months I will delve more and more into the problems that plague this President, and his administration. However, that is not all I will write about.

.

You, My Dear Shoevians, will see the return of; ‘The Mars Report’, ‘Lost in Space’, ‘News From Around the World’, and ‘A Week in Review’. As well, I hope to create all new article series to focus on the changing world around us. I have yet to formalize a title, or the nature of the series, but I hope to start a series of articles that focus on climate change and its effect on America and the word.

.

Thank you for dropping by, and I hope to see you all here often. Please share ‘The Other Shoe’ via all your social media platforms. If you haven’t already, look up ‘The Other Shoe’ on Facebook and Pinterest. You can, also, find me there, too.

My Journey to LA – August 9th, 2016

Danny at Disneyland August 9th, 2016

Danny at Disneyland August 9th, 2016

.

Welcome, My Dear Shoevians, to ‘Journey to LA –August 9th, 2106’ right here at ‘The Other Shoe’! It is great to be back here writing and publishing on my blog. The Democratic Primary is now over so I can feel free to write and post what I really feel with (less) fear of recriminations. Secretary Hillary Clinton is the ‘Democratic Party Nominee for President’ and (at this moment in time) she is walloping the (dubious and nefarious) Donald ‘Thieving’ Trump by double digits in most polls. However, that is not the thrust of today’s article.

.

.

Today I am here to relay the events, and videos, of my most recent trip form (my home in) Orange County all the way into Rolling Hills Estates/Rancho Palos Verdes of Los Angeles. It is a long and, often, arduous journey for myself and Allen (my caregiver/roommate).  For your viewing enjoyment, today, I have several ALL NEW pictures. These images were taken at Disneyland and in Rancho Palos Verdes during my journey. As well, there will be four All New Videos for your viewing pleasure. I hope that all of you, My Dear Shoevians, enjoy reading this article and viewing these videos and images as much as I did providing them to you!

.

.

The video, above, was taken in the parking lot of the building I live in just prior to the OCTA Access bus arrived to transport me to Disneyland. For those of you, My Dear Shoevians, those are new to this site (and my ‘Journey to LA’ series? Once each, and every three months, I make a very long (and tiresome… often upsetting) journey from here in Orange County (Huntington Beach to be exact) all the way (past Long Beach and San Pedro) into Los Angeles. My final destination is the Promenade on the Peninsula. In the image, below, you can get a good idea of the journey I make… via Public Transportation (for the Disabled). I start from the right side of the image where you see ‘Westminster’ and travel all the way to the left side of the image to the red marked above ‘Dr. Gorlick’ in Rolling Hills Estates.

.

.

Now some of you, My Dear Shoevians, might (reasonably) wondering “Why?” do I make this long and tiring journey every three months, and with good reason. Dr. Gorlick is my doctor. I started under his care back in 2005, when I was approved for Medicare (finally) and was able to pick my own doctor. Since I have been under his care I have; undergone surgery (Cervical Fusion) on my neck, fell victim to a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack) (a type of mini-stroke), developed ‘Left Foot Drop’, become confined to a power chair, been diagnosed with Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, undergone chemotherapy, and (most recently) been diagnosed with (now) “Severe Degenerative Disc Disease” “Severe Spinal Stenosis” “Multiple Herniated Discs” and (now) the discovery that the degenerative disc disease is now in my lumber spine, too.

.

.

Through it all Dr. Gorlick has ‘had my back’! When I come to him needing a power chair, he helps me get all sorts of paperwork to a prosthetics doctor (even though that… nut case REFUSED to SUBMIT the paperwork) Dr. Gorlick HELPED! When I discovered a lump under my chin, he examined it and referred me to a doctor that helped diagnose my cancer. When I was diagnosed with cancer Dr. Gorlick (again) gave me the name of an Oncologist that he personally knew!   When I come to him and I am unable to bear the level of pain, he helps by increasing my pain medications… time and time again!

.

.

THAT is “Why?” I make this (often arduous) journey ever three months! I am very fortunate to have found a doctor as experienced… as knowledgeable… as compassionate… as caring and considerate as Dr. Gorlick that accepts Medicare! I was lucky to have found him, some eleven years ago, and I am fortunate that he continues my care. Now back to the journey, itself. My Dear Shoevians, I have to be honest (as I am in all things) and tell you that this journey? Well, this journey was one of the most uneventful… quickest and most enjoyable journeys of all that I have made to Rolling Hills Estates in the past five years!

.

(Danny at Dr. Gorlick’s Office August 9th, 2016)

(Danny at Dr. Gorlick’s Office August 9th, 2016)

.

For five years I have sat at Disneyland, dropped off by OCTA Access, to be picked up my LA Access. Every single time we have made, at least one, stop during our journey into L.A. However, not this time! This time the driver was a Trainee and there was a supervisor in the back with Allen. There were no pickups. There were no drop-offs! We traveled, quickly, from Disneyland to Rolling Hills Estates and made it there in about an hour! That gave Allen, and myself, time to pick up a little lunch at the Subway in the mall next to where Dr. Gorlick’s office is located.

.

.

As well, on the ride back there was only one person to drop off, and then it was a quick ride into Orange County. This time I even convinced the driver to use the Carpool Lane (I know… you would think that they all would want to use the carpool lane!!… Not so!) The drive home was quick and uneventful and that left us (Allen and I) the time to make the Final Video that you see above! My Dear Shoevians, that video was one of the very best I (feel) I have ever made! It was fun! It was spontaneous! And, I enjoyed making the video.

.

With that, My Dear Shoevians, I will bring this edition of ‘Journey to LA’ to a close. Oh, yeah, Dr. Gorlick improved my pain medications! So, YES! YES, I will be working towards writing and publishing on a regular basis, again.

.

I would like to express my deep appreciation to you, My Dear Shoevians, for your interest in my blog(s), my writing, my stories and hope that you drop by often and SHARE my blog and articles (via your social media) so that others can enjoy, too!

.

THANK YOU!

.

Adieu!

Back in the Saddle AGAIN!

Danny Hanning Nov. 11th, 2015

.

Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to The Other Shoe. With just about one month passing, I am here to announce that (barring any unforeseen circumstances) I will be returning to writing and publishing here at The Other Shoe. I have obtained a minimal internet connection ( a DSLconnection) here in my home… and I now have a home ‘landline’ telephone, too. All of my closest friends? Contact me via Facebook, Email or call me and I will be happy to share this new landline telephone number.

.

My health has not improved. Matter of fact, it has taken a turn for the worse, and my neck pain is at its greatest since my head injury, nearly thirty years ago. However, it was my lack of a reliableinternet connection that prevented me from keeping my publishing schedule, it was not my pain. For the past five years I have written, and published, to help keep my mind off of my cervical pain.

.

Since I wrote last I have; attended an appointment with my primary care physician, my oncologist and my all-new provider of orthotics. The crux of; I have been fitted for a brand new (and greatly advanced and redesigned) brace for my ‘left-foot-drop’, my pain medications have been increased and I have opted to not proceed with chemo or radiation therapy during the holidays!

.

I will revisit my oncologist, and the potential for treatment, during the first quarter of next year. As well, I am working to find a brand new neurosurgeon. Whereas I do not believe that there is a viablesurgery to address my degenerative neurological disease state, I am open to starting a new relationship with a new neurosurgeon… with limitations.

.

Over the next two weeks I hope to write and publish the following:

.

  • Article Revealing the CIVIL (and possible CRIMINAL) PROSECUTION of Donald Trump over his‘Trump University’.
  • Any/ALL news out of the Curiosity rover and Mars Space Observatory projects at NASA/JPL.
  • NEWEST images from; Hubble, New Horizons, and Chandra spacecraft.

.

As well, I (hope) to provide at least one article addressing the rampant (and weekly) ‘Mass Shootings’ here in America. I know that I have a fair amount of readers, especially in Texas, that are ardent supporters of mass gun ownership… I am not of that mindset.

.

Finally, My Dear Shoevians, I would like to ask for your kindness and support in one small matter. Over the coming weeks… would you please notify any; friends, family, and acquaintances that Dannyis ‘Back in the Saddle Again!’

.

Adieu!
.

Thank you!

Leaving The Other Shoe???

Daniel Hannning

.

Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to The Other Shoe. Today is Thursday November 5th, 2015 and at midnight, tonight, I will loose my broadband internet connection… for good. My Dear Shoeviansthis is the event that has hung over my head these past several months. Yes, my health is compromised and I am physically unable to maintain my previous writing/publishing schedule. However, though my desire to write and publish has never left me, I just couldn’t bring myself to committing to something that will end… tonight.

.

For the past five years my broadband internet connection was provided by Clear. Clear is merging with Sprint, as of 12:01 tonight, and ending my five year relationship with the only broadband 4G LTE internet in my area. Living, as I do, in a ‘non-apartment’ building (due to insufficient income –S.S.D., I am unable to ‘qualify’ for an apartment) I have limited ‘options’. The building comes with basic cable (included) and for that reason Time/Warner will not provide my own internet connection.

.

Until, unless, I can find and secure a broadband internet connection, My Dear Shoevians, this will likely be my last posting here at The Other Shoe. After five years and more than 650 articles; spanning the depth and breadth of topics and subject matter from NASA/JPL Mars Exploration from Opportunity/Spirit to the current Curiosity rover, to cooking/baking, American politics to international treaties and affairs. My Dear Shoevians I have worked to entertain and enlighten you, as an audience, these past five years.

.

It is my ardent hope that, within the coming weeks/months, I find another broadband internet connection. I am not only loosing my internet voice… I am loosing; my ability to play on line games (like World of Warcraft, Aion, Rift, and FPS games), Netflix, Vudu, and all but limited (email and browsing) internet availability. YES! My Dear Shoevians, this IS the reason for my emotional distance and depression. My connection to the internet has been a connection to; friends, family, Facebook, games, my BLOGS… life outside the four walls I live.

.

Finally, I would like to say “Thank you!” to all of you, My Dear Shoevians, for years and years of readership. Without witch, I could have never made it through my battles. So, for now, I hope this isnot “Good-Bye” but merely… until we meet again.

.

Adieu!

.

Thank you!

.

Journey to L.A. – May 12th, 2015

Promenade on the Peninsula Flyer May 2015

Promenade on the Peninsula Flyer May 2015

.

Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to The Other Shoe. Well, it has been a difficult and very painful week. I am writing this on Saturday afternoon, May16th. The subject of this article is my recent ‘Journey to L.A.’. It is this trip, last Tuesday, which has left me crippled with pain this past week. Two years ago, the journey was difficult, but not really that painful. However, at about 5:00PM last Tuesday I was in such crippling pain that I could hardly move or speak. Again and again, over the passing days, I awoke to the same pain.

.

Danny @ Disneyland Transfer Point - Outbound

(Danny @ Disneyland Transfer Point – Outbound)

.

For all of you, My Dear Shoevians, who are unfamiliar with my circumstances? I am wheelchair/power chair bound and must make a journeyfrom here in southern orange county all the way into Rolling Hills Estates, above Los Angeles. Round trip… it takes just over eleven hours! So, today I am going to build a little story around some pictures and vies I made, this week, while on this ‘Journey to L.A.’

.

.

The video, above, was shot in the parking lot of my current residence at 7:50AM May 12th, 2015. In it I welcome all of you, My Dear Shoevians, to this article and the journey ahead. I made this trip, last, in February of this year. However, I was finishing up chemotherapy and was quite bereft of the energy needed to; write, upload, edit and publish that article. For that, I apologize to you, My Dear Shoevians. This journey takes a lot out of me, and by the end I am drained and in severe pain. My Dear Shoevians, you might well ask “Why?”. Why do I make a journey of this length, that spans over 11 hours, and leaves me completely drain and in severe pain? Check out the image below.

.

Dr. Gorlick’s Bio

Dr. Gorlick’s Bio

(Dr. Gorlick’s Bio)

.

Take a moment, My Dear Shoevians, and read this biography of my primary care physician. He studied medicine at Yale! He was an Associate Professor of Medicine and Instructor at UCLA St. Mary’s Hospital. Board certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics. Former Director of Laboratory Medicine at Pro Health Partners @ Los Alamitos Medical Center (where I met him, first) and supervises and is a Sub-investigator of Clinical Trials at his own “Peninsula Research Associates’.

.

I have to tell you, My Dear Shoevians, I do not know of… any other patients on Medicare that have as accomplished a physician as their primary care doctor. That is the “Why?” I make this journey, and I will continue to make this quarterly journey, as long as my health allows. I am very fortunate to have found, and obtain, Dr. Gorlick as my PCP. When I first started this relationship, Dr. Gorlick was practicing at Pro Health Partners right here at Los Alamitos Medical Center. That is a very short ride, taking less than a half hour each way.

.

Danny at Disneyland Transfer Lot

(Danny at Disneyland Transfer Lot)

.

So, the pictures and videos are in chronological order. Starting with a video taken in the parking lot of my apartment, moving to a picture taken in the Disneyland Transfer Lot, and finishing (below) with a short video I made. This video was made, as I am outbound from Orange County to Rolling Hills Estates/Rancho Palos Verdes. The journey starts with me getting up at 6:00AM. My first ride picks me up, at home, at about 8:00AM. I arrive at the Disneyland Transfer Lot by 10:00AM and the L.A. Access bus arrives between 10:30AM-11:00AM.

.

.

Depending on traffic on the many freeways L.A. Access takes on any given ride. Add to that any/all other passengers that they pick-up and/or drop-off. This ride, in the L.A. Access Minivan, takes anywhere from two to three hours. I, usually, arrive at Promenade on the Peninsula by 12:00PM to 1:20PM. I have a standing appointment, with Dr. Gorlick at the Palos Verdes Medical Group, for every three months on the second Tuesday of the month at 1:45PM. I am his very first appointment of the day. This gives us all time to; review my ‘Agenda For Appointment’ (a handout that I prepare and print up prior to every appointment), go over any tests/scans/surgeries since out last visit, then we both talk about our families.

.

Danny at Palos Verdes Medical Group May 2015

Danny at Palos Verdes Medical Group May 2015

(Danny at Palos Verdes Medical Group May 2015)

.

This appointment usually takes about 15 to 20 minuets, and we all leave smiling and very happy to have spent time together. Now, My Dear Shoevians, I have to tell you about the Mall where Dr. Gorlick has this office! It is a very ‘Upscale’ mall situated at the top of the PV Hills. There is a ‘Lord & Taylor’, an ‘Abercrombie and Fitch’ and an indoor skating rink. This place is a very upscale mall and I get a big kick out of going there to see my doctor. I always, as you can see from the pictures and videos, dress up very nice.

.

.

I just get a big kick going to see my Medicare doctor in this kind of mall, with all the well-to-do people scampering around in the Land Rovers and BMWs. I mean, I cannot afford to get my teeth fixed, from the falls I had back in April, but I get to travel 34 miles in about five hours. Five hours there, and five hours back. Now that we have completed our journey in, let us start our return to Westminster. The last video I have embedded (above) was taken from the Third Floor of the Promenade on the Peninsula. If you look closely you might be able to see the hills just behind me and the cellular towers and the like on the very top of the PV Hills.

.

Danny at Promenade on the Peninsula

Danny at Promenade on the Peninsula

(Danny at Promenade on the Peninsula)

.

After our appointment, Allen and I, take a few moments to look around the Mall. Once we have finished our Window-Shopping we find a nice quite place to sit back and enjoy peanut butter sandwiches and Coke Zeros that we have brought along with us. We sit and talk, taking in the view, then work our way back down to the ground floor to await our return L.A. Access minivan. It usually arrives between 2:30PM and 3:00PM. Now, this is the kicker! Where it took us an hour to two hours (tops!) to get to my doctor’s office?

.

The return ride on L.A. Access always takes three to three and a half hours! For the first year I would always schedule my pick-up, at Disneyland Transfer Lot, for 6:00PM. However, they (L.A. Access) would always be late. So, now I schedule for a pick-up at 6:30PM. This makes my day a little-to-a-lot longer, but it is better than having to call OCTA while in transit. The video, below, was taken at the Disneyland Transfer Lot at approximately 6:30PM.

.

.

When OCTA (the Orange County equivalent of L.A. Access) arrives at the Disneyland Transfer Lot it is, usually, between 6:30PM and 7:00PM. On this occasion it did not arrive until 7:30PM. My journey is, usually, complete by 8:00PM when I am dropped off in the parking lot at home. One this journey we arrived, in the parking lot, at 9:00PM! Thus creating a THIRTEEN-HOUR JOURNEY!

.

(Danny at Disneyland Transfer Lot –HOMEBOUND!)

.

Many of you, My Dear Shoevians, are very aware that I did not publish this (last) week. This is the reason why that happened. Why I was completely unable to sit behind the keyboard and create this article. Why I was unable to; write, download images, upload images, edit and publish the regularly scheduled articles that you and I love so dearly. It was not from a lack of material. It was not from a lack of desire to entertain and inform all of you, My Dear Shoevians. It was, quite simply, because I was unable to move for several days.

.

Now I hope that all of you, My Dear Shoevians, understand my absence and accept my deep and heartfelt apology. I very much enjoy writing and publishing for your enjoyment. This act helps give my life meaning, and joy. I will do my level best to work to write and publish more of our favorite weekly series articles, here at The Other Shoe. We have reached that point in our journey today, My Dear Shoevians.

.

The end of this article and my telling of the tale of my ‘Journey to L.A.!’. I hope that I have entertained and distracted, made you laugh and helped you to relate. One final bit of new business before I go. If you follow me, or The Other Shoe, on Facebook (just click on either link to ‘Like’ or ‘Friend’) then you are already aware. For all of you, My Dear Shoevians, that are not my Friends yet.. or have ‘Liked’ The Other Shoe… I have some news!

.

I have started an all new THIRD location for our blog, The Other Shoe! Working with my Google account and my Google-Plus I have created a mirror image blog at BlogSpot! Here is the URL for the all NEW The Other Shoe!(Just click on the name, right there) As of 3:00AM this morning, the all new location is 95% updated with the other locations. As a matter of fact, this new location has all the articles that are published at my Word Press location. It is just missing the 2010, 2011, and early 2012 publications from my primary blog location at blog dot com here: The Other Shoe.

.

Be sure to drop by and take a look. All the articles, all the images, all the content will be the exact same as the other two locations. All that is different is the look of this new blog location. I am working very hard to increase our readership. Increase just how many My Dear Shoevians there are! Thank you for your time. Thank you for your support. Thank you for dropping by, and most of all… Thank you for being a SHOEVIAN!

.

Thank you!

.

Adieu!

Notes From Behind the Keyboard – February 6th, 2015

.

Danny Hanning

Danny Rolling Hills Estates

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. My goodness has it really been over a month since I last posted? Yes, it has! For most of you, My Dear Readers, this comes as no surprise. My battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma has taken the last little bit of strength from my body. Leaving me quite bereft of the physical abilities needed to write and publish. Normally, I would apologize for this extended hiatus, today… I am not. My adventure with chemotherapy has come to an end.

.

Unfortunately the chemotherapy did not have the desired results. From what I am told, these drugs did not “knock back…” my disease as much as my oncologist has anticipated. Therefore, we have started a round of radiation therapy. This will last another couple of weeks, and then I will be finished with all the toxic… exposures. With any luck, once I am finished with this current treatment I will be relatively free of this cancer.

.

My Dearest Readers, I have many videos from the past several months. Videos of me heading to treatment, videos of me during treatment, and a few of Prince Alexander playing and being my little boy rat. It is my desire and intent that, once I am recovered from these treatments, I will be sharing all of these videos with all of you. My Dear Readers, I genuinely long to return to a regular and full writing and publishing schedule.

.

Do you all remember what that was like? Five to seven articles every single week. A weekly edition of ‘The Mars Report’ with all the newest information and images from Curiosity and the Opportunity rovers. Weekly editions of ‘News From Around the World’ with all the news that does not appear on the major media outlets web sites. Weekly editions of ‘The Horror in Smithville’ with the latest antics of Timmy and Archer if their fight against ‘The Tall Man’ and the upcoming adventure @ the Harvest Carnival. Weekly editions of ‘A Week in Review’ and the antics of Prince Alexander in ‘Sunday Funnies’!

.

I have not forgotten all the wonderful articles and all the wonderful experiences that we shared here at The Other Shoe. Nor have I forgotten how wonderful it is to write and entertain all of you, My Dearest Readers, from all over this great planet Earth. I really had no idea just how bad these chemotherapy treatments would slam my health. I really had no idea just how much these treatments would negatively effect my neruopathy in my left hand. I really ad no idea just now bad things would be, or I just might have opted out of getting these treatments.

.

All I can hope is that you, My Dearest Readers, will come back once I start writing and publishing, again. For I have dearly missed all of you… deeply. I would like to promise that this weekend I will return to my regular writing and publishing schedule. However, I have never lied to you, My Dearest Readers, before and I am not about to start now. Terrible as it may be? Just writing these two pages has taken a great deal of energy and focus. Looking back? I really am amazed at the amount of content I generated all by myself. Over just under five years I wrote, edited, and published nearly SIX HUNDERED articles for your reading pleasure.

.

When I consider all the effort that goes into just one edition of ‘The Mars Report’! Downloading images for the article, writing the article and embedding the images, uploading the images on to both blog servers, uploading the text, and then integrating the images (and adding descriptions) for as many as ten images. Honestly, it would take me up to four to six hours just to get from start to finish for just one edition of ‘The Mars Report’. It was a labor of love, My Dearest Readers. A love of all things extraterrestrial, and a love of all of you My Dearest Readers.

.

Well, that brings us to the end of this edition of Notes From Behind the Keyboard’. I do hope that all of you, My Dearest Readers, keep checking back and drop by often. With all luck and a bit of extra strength, you can look forward to me adopting a partial publication schedule by the end of February, or the first of March. I know that, sometime in March, my oncologist will start (again) the process of ‘Staging my Cancer’. That will mean PET scans, blood tests, and most likely another bone marrow test.

.

As always I will keep all of you, My Dearest Readers, fully informed on the results of these tests. Fear not, even if I loose this battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma? I will continue to write and publish so long as I have life. It is my heartfelt desire to complete ‘The Horror in Smithville’. I already have the final chapters in my head… and the bloody and violent conclusion… it just is not on paper or saved on a hard drive. It is my deeply felt desire to start, and finish, ‘The Adventures of Princess Nadia’, too. At least the first book of the series. If I have my way, I will manage to write (and get published) all FIVE books that will make up her story.

.

In closing, I would like to take a moment to say “Thank you!” to; Ian Cottier, Jason Kleppinger, and James Coate for their kind support during the holidays past. Without their kindness and support I would not have had the genuine thrill of a Christmas Dinner or ANY presents under the tree. Times are tough all over, and I fully understand. I am just thrilled to have friends, and My Dearest Readers, that care enough… and trust me enough to make donations to help me find some small happiness. I am hopeful that when I get my novel works finished… that I find a receptive publisher. That I can get my works published… and never have to ask for the help or assistance of friends, readers, or family… ever again. I just hope that I make it that far. 🙂

.

Adieu!

.

Thank you!

First, I would like to wish everyone a “Happy New Year!” I don’t know about you, My Dear Shoevians, but I really needed a ‘new’ year. 2014 had become filled with; pain, suffering, sadness, darkness, confusion, and an overwhelming sense of depression. 2014 brought cancer from something that plague my; father’s father, my father, and my brothers. To something tactical and very real to me. Good riddance to 2014!

.

Next, I would like to share two ‘new’ events in my life and the life of this blog. First, it is my unfortunate task to inform all of you, My Dear Shoevians, that my chemotherapy was not as “effective” at battling my cancer as my oncologist had hoped. The gains were minimal, and the effects of the treatment on my body, too severe. Therefore, within the next month of so, I will be moving from chemotherapy to radiation therapy. Anyone that has followed a family member through his or her fight with cancer knows what this treatment entails.

.

This move concerns me, as does the bodily harm of the chemotherapy. I am concerned about the radiation burns that will appear on my face. Yes, the area they will ‘nuke’ will be my lower right jaw and neck. For a time, I will have a large discolored area. I know it will pass, just like my hair “will grow back”. Knowing and seeing are two very different things. However, I will soldier onward in hopes that the combination of these two different treatment types will give me a great chance of not having to wage this war again, soon.

.

(Danny’s Chemotherapy December 29th 2014)

.

Second, I have not been able to keep up the articles at this blog like I had previously, and like I have wanted. This concerns me greatly, and I am at a loss as to find… assistance. However, with the coming of the ‘New Year’ I will redouble my efforts to make more regular postings. Much is happening with NASA’s Mars Exploration project, and I would very much like to keep all of you abreast. I assure you, My Dear Shoevians, that I will make every effort to keep you abreast of these historic events.

.

Since I last posted, I have undergone another chemotherapy treatment. Below is a short video I made during that treatment. You know, My Dear Shoevians, I had ‘good intentions’ when this battle started. Intentions to make this blog a journal of my journey through my cancer treatment. Boy did I underestimate the toll these treatments would demand! Now understand that this chemotherapy is not happening to someone in ‘good health’. Not to someone that jogs frequently, or goes to the gym on a regular basis. My body and health were already compromised by my ongoing health issues.

.

For me, this was more like kitting a guy when he is already down… with a baseball bat. I am not ‘complaining’ I am just giving everyone some perspective. Some understanding of just why I have been unable to keep the commitments I have made to you, My Dear Shoevians. Now I am going to give you a little insight into just what you might also be reading, here at The Other Shoe, in the upcoming editions.

.

March tenth 2010 I wrote and published my first article for this blog. I started this blog, as I have told you My Dear Shoevians, to be a small counterweight to the overwhelming deluge of negative and harmful media and dialogue coming from the far extremes of the conservative movement. Truthfully, I have been remiss in this original goal. I stepped back from political writing and publications in an effort to halt the alienation of some of my readers. Some of my readers, in the South and in Texas, had become deeply disturbed by my writings. Then, they tied their support for me… for my many ‘causes’ to a kind of control over what I wrote and published.

.

I should never have allowed this to happen. What is done, is done, and cannot be undone. However, at the risk of never gain receiving help of assistance… never again knowing the kindness of these ‘others’… and standing alone against a sea of troubles. I will begin a series of articles, here at The Other Shoe, that shines a light on the path ahead. We are not the first modern society to place its feet on a path without; reason, knowledge, or logic. That is what I call it when a very vocal group of zealots want to replace the science of evolution with the illogical and unscientific ramblings of ‘Creationism’.

.

That, My Dear Shoevians, is just the tip of the iceberg that has frozen reason in political dialogue and discourse in America. Over the next few weeks I will work to open eyes… to share perspective… to draw political parallels… to bring reason back to American political dialogue. Yes… that is a huge goal… but I am a gay man that made it thought the 80’s death march of HIV/AiDS. We buried thousands of our loved ones… before anyone paid attention. I made it thought that… I made it though a fracking typewriter dropping on my head… I made it through loosing my MOBILITY!

.

If you, My Dear Shoevians, think I will shy away from this battle? Then the upcoming weeks and months will change your mind!

.

Happy New Year!

.

Adieu!

.

Thank you!

Notes from Behind the Keyboard – December 22nd, 2014

Alex at Xmas Hiding

Alex at Xmas Hiding

.

Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to The Other Shoe. Today is December 22nd, 2014 and there are just three days left for any ‘Christmas Shopping’. Later today I plan on writing and publishing a ‘A Week in Review’ for last week. I managed to write and publish more than five articles. Including a Gargantuan edition of ‘The Mars Report’.

.

My traffic is up, my comments are positive. I keep writing and publishing, because that is what a writer does. He/She writes. I love to write. I love to share the stories and articles that I write. So much so that, for the past FIVE YEARS, I have done all this for FREE and never charged a single penny. Instead? Instead I have worked on the basis… of… trust. I write and publish and trust that when I am at wit’s end or without the means needed to; get a mobility device, move, for fight cancer that you, My Dear Shoevians, are there and help.

.

This, actually, worked for the first several years. I am still hoping for assistance with ‘Christmas’. However, as of the first part of next year… there just might be a change. A change necessitated by changing trends… in charity. Whereas I understand the adage ‘Times, they are a changing’… I am really caught off guard by the lack of generosity… compassion… empathy… charity.

.

This blog serves many functions to many people all over this great earth. I, merely, ask.. as exchange for the stories… articles.. incredible images from space and Mars… a modicum of support. This has not been forthcoming. Therefore, as of (as soon as I can get it organized) ‘ads’ here at The Other Shoe. I will do my best to keep them to a minimum. I will do my best to keep them at the end of articles… and/or to the ‘Side-Bar’ of the blog.

.

I have not worked out all the kinks… and I must tell you, My Dearest Shoevians, that this is not the course of action I prefer. Having said… I will ask, yet again, for any/all the support that all of you, My Dearest Shoevians, for your kind support for my ‘Christmas’ and my Battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. You can give at PayPal – my name is Daniel Hanning and my PayPal email is Enzomatrix@earthlink.net. With that information anybody anywhere in the world can show their support.

.

That is all that I ask of you, My Dearest Shoevians. I will post later this week and tell you of any/all of you, My Dearest Shoevians, that reached out and helped. This is for a Christmas for my family. I simply am without the means to show the people I love the kindness and seasonal care that they genuinely deserve. Being unable to work, with NOTHING selling on eBay… I am a man with greatly limited means!

.

For everyone that has every helped me in any way? THANK YOU! Your kindness and support are instrumental to my survival! To all of you, My Dearest Shoevians, I wish you a very ‘Merry Christmas’!

.

Adieu!

.

Thank you!

My Dearest Readers, Family, Friends and Followers –

My financial situation has become much worse! TODAY (December 14th, 2014) is the TWENTY-SEVENTH anniversary of the Very First Date between Allen and myself. I am very deeply saddened by the fact that as much as I would like… WANT to do something special for Allen to celebrate. However, I/we completely lack the financial resources with which to celebrate or enjoy this very important and… well… incredible anniversary! My parents only made it to their 25th anniversary! That Allen and I have made it to out 27th anniversary is… REALLY is an achievement to be proud of and that really deserves to be celebrated. On top of that… Christmas is just a WEEK away… and, again, I/we lack the financial means with which to enjoy and/or celebrate this wonderful and joyous occasion.

.

Therefore, My Dearest Readers I am asking for your HELP and ASSISTANCE! I know that there is little time left… but I just know that ‘If there is a will, there is a WAY!’ A way to help me to bring joy and reward Allen for how hard he works… how hard he works to keep me; bathed, shaved, to my appointments, to my chemotherapy, and sitting beside me each and ever; test, scan, treatment, appointment and EVERYTHING! HONESTLY… I really want to show him I care. I cannot; sell blood, sell organs, or enlist and/or participate in ANY drug trials or other experimental treatments due to my cancer. I wrote, here earlier. That I was going to see if there were any experimental treatments of drug trials that I could get involved with so that I could bring more money into the home. Money to provide a Christmas for Allen and myself.

.

Over the past two weeks I have contacted a half-dozen companies that conduct; drug trials, medical procedure trials, and experimental surgeries. ALL of them, after I told them that I have Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, told me that I was barred from participation in any kind of drug trials, medical procedure paid trials, or paid experimental surgeries. This really burst my bubble and plunged me even deeper into depression and rejection. NOW?

.

Now, My Dearest Readers, the ONLY HOPE I have is that somebody… someone… that reads my works… knows me on Facebook… or SOMEBODY that I went to PHS with… hears my story and… (I am really praying… every day) and… offers to help me out. There simply is not time for me to run and Indiegogo campaign. That was the way I raised the money for my power chair… and it was the way I raised the money I needed when Allen was arrested for stealing a truck (at 47!!!) RIGHT when the building we were living in was SOLD and EVERYBODY was being forced to move out!

.

Therefore, I am throwing caution to the wind and working as hard as I can… regardless of the effect on my health, during chemotherapy. I have decided that I am going to write and publish as much as I can in hopes that someone ‘sees’ my need and takes a few moments to lend us/me a hand in my time of great need! For ANYONE that wants to help? Please contact me through this blog, via Facebook, or through my email – Enzomatrix@earthlink.net.

.

You CAN send help, money, through PayPal by using my name Daniel Hanning and the email that I listed above. I sincerely apologize! This is NOT the situation that I wanted to be in at Christmas or at our Anniversary!!! I dread asking people for any kind of help or financial assistance… but what am I going to do!?! I cannot work… I cannot sell; my blood, my organs, do drug trials, or experimental surgeries! About the only thing left, for me, would be to stand out by the side of the freeway with a cardboard sign and beg for money. Please help!?!?

To Be, or NOT to Be…

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. My Dearest Readers I come here today to make… an… admission. I come here, to this blog… this blog with over Six Hundred Articles… this blog that is over four years old and has over six hundred articles… to make an admission. On March 10th, 2010 I, Daniel Hanning, created this blog The Other Shoe (as in ‘waiting for The Other Shoe to drop) for a singular primary reason. Oh, there were a lot of reasons I started this blog, My Dear Readers. I had, recently, found out that I would never walk the same… I would be in pain… for the rest of my life… I had stories to tell, that lived in my heart and mind. There were a lot of secondary and tertiary reasons, My Dear Readers, for me starting this blog. But, there was only ONE primary reason I started this blog.

.

AMERICA. My Dearest Readers there was only ONE primary reason that, on March 10th 2010, I started this blog. I was gravely concerned about America. To be more specific, I was gravely concerned about the political dialogue here in America. Extrapolating, I was gravely concerned about the tone of political dialogue in America. I was gravely concerned at the immediate tone of political dialogue in America could/would do severe and irreversible damage to our fragile Republic. Politics.

.

YES, My Dearest Readers, the tone of the political dialogue following the election of President Barrack Obama had created a genuine concern. I had a genuine concern of the (possible) irreversible damage to our fragile Republic. I created The Other Shoe as a counter weight to the, often vicious and hateful, political dialogue that dominated some of our national media outlets. My Dearest Readers, I created this blog in the hopes that I could possibly help to create an alternative to the growing; negative, personally vicious, and often hateful hyperbolic rhetoric that (appeared) to be the cornerstone of some of our national media outlets.

.

Truthfully, My Dearest Readers, I did not come into this blog without previous experience in; writing, publishing and editing. Prior to starting this blog I had spent several years as the Political Editor for the web site ‘All Out Games’. ‘All Out Games’ was (to be) an international web site for gay gamers. Yes, that is correct. I had joined a group of young men that wanted to create a web presence for gay gamers, from all over the world. To create place where gay gamers, from all over the world, could come to and (without prejudice or hatred) discuss gaming… and what it was to be a ‘Gay Gamer’. At this time World of Warcraft would not allow a “Gay Guild” in game. When playing multiplayer online games, one of the sure ways to get kicked form a game would be to mention you are gay… or act or sound ‘gay’.

.

We were the only web site, in the world, designed and created (from the ground up) for that sole purpose. After, only, a few weeks of posting to threads? The founder and administrator of the web site sent me a personal message asking me if I want to write articles for this web site. After only a few weeks of that, he asked me to be the ‘Editor in Chief’ for the sections; ‘Personal Computers’ (meant for tips on maintaining and upgrading PC hardware/software), PC game Reviews, and … … … POLITICS. For the next 18 months I did my very best to; write engaging and informative reviews (that included in-game screenshots and short videos), wrote articles about how to maintain the personal computers and update/upgrade their hardware and software, and I wrote political articles.

.

All Out Games’ was my very first experience writing political articles for online publication. After, about, two years I left ‘All Out Games’. I did not leave, the staff, of that wonderful and supportive web site for any reason that most might imagine. I did leave the staff because they (the owner/Admin) totally changed format(s). It went from ‘All Out Games’ a web site for gay gamers (Mostly PC games, we didn’t really cover consoles)… went from gay gaming TO… … … ‘Homo Mojo’ a web site devoted to… … … the review and promotion of… … … gay videos.

.

Now the admin, the writing staff, a majority of the regulars, and the group of FoE’(s) [Friends of Enzo] begged me to stay on and keep writing reviews. Oh, back then I wrote and published under the moniker ‘Enzo Matrix’. It had been my handle in most online games and in World of Warcraft, too. There was a large outcry, from the readers and even most of the writing/editing staff, for me to stay on and “keep up your great work”. I did think and consider my course of action very seriously, My Dear Readers. However, what I just could not get past was just how (people like you, My Dear Readers) would ‘see’ me after publishing on a web site that just reviewed and promoted gay pornographic movies. Remember, this was in 2005, and attitudes about pornographic movies were not the same as today.

.

My Dearest Readers I really wanted (desired) to (one day) be taken seriously as a writer of political articles. I had genuine concerns that, IF, I spent any length of time writing and publishing reviews of gay pornographic videos it would greatly damage my chances of being taken seriously as a political writer. I stayed on, as a web site member, for several weeks. I watched, the change, read the work of the writers and carefully considered my course of action. Remember, My Dearest Readers, that this was my very first ‘paying gig’ as a writer. As well, I had a rather large group of followers that very much enjoyed my work.

.

Not only would I loose a paying gig, I would (likely) loose all my followers, a viable outlet for my political works, and the only real replacement for the work I was no longer able to do. It was a very difficult decision and I labored over this decision for more than a week. In the end, I realized that writing reviews and promotional material for gay pornographic materials and videos just was not; (1) What I wanted to do, (2) Was more likely to harm my future prospects than improve them {finally} (3) I had never really been a fan of… enjoyed… spent time watching gay pornographic videos or magazines or anything. It really was ‘outside my limits of experiences. To this day I feel I made the correct decision and I have no regrets.

.

This all took place the later part of 2005, and it ended up being the correct decision for more than the reasons I outlined so far. Because, it was in 2005 that my state disability payments maxed out and my application for Social Security Disability reached its second rejection. It was in 2005 that I went about hiring an disability attorney, going to a lot more doctor appointments, a lot more X-rays and scans, and they discovered that even more was wrong with my cervical spine. For the next five years I did not publish but I continued to write, on my computer, and I played games as much as my pain allowed.

.

My Dearest Readers, when I started this article (Sunday night 12/14/14) I honestly thought I would finish this tale in just a few pages and just one night. WRONG! Now, rather than try to boil this article down to just a few pages more and publish a poorly written work? I have decided to make this ‘Part One’ of a multiple part article. Edit this, tonight, and publish it for promotion tomorrow, Monday. Then, tomorrow, I will do my very best to get to the meat of my story and this article for publication on Tuesday or Wednesday. When it is published will greatly depend on how my chemotherapy goes and how my body reacts.

.

I am going to shoot for a Wednesday publication, My Dear Readers. That way I will have articles published on; Monday, Wednesday and Friday! Three articles in one week is a good and reasonable publication goal. It is not my previous goal of six to seven articles in a seven day period. However, it is much better than my (for the past month or so) one article every seven days. I like this new publication schedule because it is substantially more writing published in seven days, but it is a goal that I feel I can meet!

.

So, I am going to go back and edit/review my work. Then I am going to upload this article to my blog(s), embed some images and schedule it for publication for Monday morning! Tehn, tomorrow, as I am getting prepared for Tuesday’s chemotherapy I can finish writing the article. Label it is ‘Part Two’, edit/review, upload, embed and schedule for publication on Tuesday or Wednesday. Then I have just to create and write/edit/publish one more article for Friday and I have greatly increased my publication output!

.

Now, My Dear Readers, let’s remember that ‘when we left off’ I had left ‘All Out Games’ and was about to win my Social Security Disability and Medicare benefits. Winning these benefits would allow me the resources to purchase an all new computer and ‘Word’ software to write. These two factors would really empower me to reach out and grab ‘The Other Shoe’!

.

My Dear Readers I am going to do my best to get you all caught up on the articles about my last TWO chemotherapy treatments, my (November) visit to my primary care physician, and all other medical appointments… by the end of this year. From right before my initial diagnosis I promised to keep all of you, My Dear Readers, in-the-loop. Keep you all up-to-date with my diagnosis, my treatment and the outcome of my treatment. I have no intention to go back on that promise, I know that a good many of you are genuinely interested in my care and treatment and I want to honor your caring.

.

I hope that everyone has enjoyed reading, today, and that you come back to read the conclusion of this article series. Tuesday I will be at the Transfusion Center for my chemotherapy. I do not know if I will be on Facebook, but I am pretty sure that I will not publish on Tuesday… That is… unless, of course, I completely finish writing/editing/uploading/embedding tomorrow.

.

Adieu!

.

Thank YOU!
