My Journey to LA – August 9th, 2016

Danny at Disneyland August 9th, 2016

Danny at Disneyland August 9th, 2016

.

Welcome, My Dear Shoevians, to ‘Journey to LA –August 9th, 2106’ right here at ‘The Other Shoe’! It is great to be back here writing and publishing on my blog. The Democratic Primary is now over so I can feel free to write and post what I really feel with (less) fear of recriminations. Secretary Hillary Clinton is the ‘Democratic Party Nominee for President’ and (at this moment in time) she is walloping the (dubious and nefarious) Donald ‘Thieving’ Trump by double digits in most polls. However, that is not the thrust of today’s article.

.

.

Today I am here to relay the events, and videos, of my most recent trip form (my home in) Orange County all the way into Rolling Hills Estates/Rancho Palos Verdes of Los Angeles. It is a long and, often, arduous journey for myself and Allen (my caregiver/roommate).  For your viewing enjoyment, today, I have several ALL NEW pictures. These images were taken at Disneyland and in Rancho Palos Verdes during my journey. As well, there will be four All New Videos for your viewing pleasure. I hope that all of you, My Dear Shoevians, enjoy reading this article and viewing these videos and images as much as I did providing them to you!

.

.

The video, above, was taken in the parking lot of the building I live in just prior to the OCTA Access bus arrived to transport me to Disneyland. For those of you, My Dear Shoevians, those are new to this site (and my ‘Journey to LA’ series? Once each, and every three months, I make a very long (and tiresome… often upsetting) journey from here in Orange County (Huntington Beach to be exact) all the way (past Long Beach and San Pedro) into Los Angeles. My final destination is the Promenade on the Peninsula. In the image, below, you can get a good idea of the journey I make… via Public Transportation (for the Disabled). I start from the right side of the image where you see ‘Westminster’ and travel all the way to the left side of the image to the red marked above ‘Dr. Gorlick’ in Rolling Hills Estates.

.

Now some of you, My Dear Shoevians, might (reasonably) wondering “Why?” do I make this long and tiring journey every three months, and with good reason. Dr. Gorlick is my doctor. I started under his care back in 2005, when I was approved for Medicare (finally) and was able to pick my own doctor. Since I have been under his care I have; undergone surgery (Cervical Fusion) on my neck, fell victim to a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack) (a type of mini-stroke), developed ‘Left Foot Drop’, become confined to a power chair, been diagnosed with Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, undergone chemotherapy, and (most recently) been diagnosed with (now) “Severe Degenerative Disc Disease” “Severe Spinal Stenosis” “Multiple Herniated Discs” and (now) the discovery that the degenerative disc disease is now in my lumber spine, too.

.

.

Through it all Dr. Gorlick has ‘had my back’! When I come to him needing a power chair, he helps me get all sorts of paperwork to a prosthetics doctor (even though that… nut case REFUSED to SUBMIT the paperwork) Dr. Gorlick HELPED! When I discovered a lump under my chin, he examined it and referred me to a doctor that helped diagnose my cancer. When I was diagnosed with cancer Dr. Gorlick (again) gave me the name of an Oncologist that he personally knew!   When I come to him and I am unable to bear the level of pain, he helps by increasing my pain medications… time and time again!

.

.

THAT is “Why?” I make this (often arduous) journey ever three months! I am very fortunate to have found a doctor as experienced… as knowledgeable… as compassionate… as caring and considerate as Dr. Gorlick that accepts Medicare! I was lucky to have found him, some eleven years ago, and I am fortunate that he continues my care. Now back to the journey, itself. My Dear Shoevians, I have to be honest (as I am in all things) and tell you that this journey? Well, this journey was one of the most uneventful… quickest and most enjoyable journeys of all that I have made to Rolling Hills Estates in the past five years!

.

.

For five years I have sat at Disneyland, dropped off by OCTA Access, to be picked up my LA Access. Every single time we have made, at least one, stop during our journey into L.A. However, not this time! This time the driver was a Trainee and there was a supervisor in the back with Allen. There were no pickups. There were no drop-offs! We traveled, quickly, from Disneyland to Rolling Hills Estates and made it there in about an hour! That gave Allen, and myself, time to pick up a little lunch at the Subway in the mall next to where Dr. Gorlick’s office is located.

.

.

As well, on the ride back there was only one person to drop off, and then it was a quick ride into Orange County. This time I even convinced the driver to use the Carpool Lane (I know… you would think that they all would want to use the carpool lane!!… Not so!) The drive home was quick and uneventful and that left us (Allen and I) the time to make the Final Video that you see above! My Dear Shoevians, that video was one of the very best I (feel) I have ever made! It was fun! It was spontaneous! And, I enjoyed making the video.

.

With that, My Dear Shoevians, I will bring this edition of ‘Journey to LA’ to a close. Oh, yeah, Dr. Gorlick improved my pain medications! So, YES! YES, I will be working towards writing and publishing on a regular basis, again.

.

I would like to express my deep appreciation to you, My Dear Shoevians, for your interest in my blog(s), my writing, my stories and hope that you drop by often and SHARE my blog and articles (via your social media) so that others can enjoy, too!

.

THANK YOU!

.

Adieu!

Return to Publishing – Redux

.

Welcome back, My Dear Shoevians, to The Other Shoe. First, I would like to say “Thank you!” to all you Shoevians that keep coming back… and viewing… and reading… and sharing. You ARE the BEST! Second, I would like to express my heartfelt apology for not“returning to publishing” as I stated in my last article back on February 13th, 2016. Finally… an explanation.

.

When I wrote my last published article, it was my real and genuine intent to work towards returning to my regular writing and publishing schedule. However, as most of us know, between desire and reality lives a gulf of possibilities… and a world of tears and broken promises. The fact of the matter is; on the morning of February 14th (Valentine’s Day) I started up my computer (with the intent of writing several articles, to be published over the next week), as I have thousands of times before, launched Google Chrome and brought up the admin pages of my four blog locations.

.

I had just logged on to all four admin pages… and… BAM! BSOD!!! (Blue Screen of Death). The computer rebooted, after saving the dump file, and…  it… was… dead! The video adapter was not working. The computer ran incredibly slow, and I was unable to connect to the internet… regardless of what I did. Over the next two weeks, whenever I was out of pain enough, I worked on the computer. I did everything I had ever learned about video cards, and Windows errors… to no avail. My Dear Shoevians, within hours of publishing that promise… I was unable to honor my commitment.

.

The following Monday, not the 15th but Monday the 22nd, I took my computer back to the people that had fixed it the last time. They kept the computer for TEN DAYS! Only to return it to me… unrepaired, explaining that “the motherboard needs to be replaced… it is on backorder.”I am to bring my computer back (again) Thursday and they are going to have the motherboard effect the replacement. At least… that is what I am being told.

.

My Dear Shoevians, over the past year I have invested; MORE THAN $400 in repair costs, weeks of time waiting, and a tremendous amount of anxiety and frustration. I have been completely unable to write and publish! I have been lost! All the while more and more newsworthy incidents have occurred… and I have been voiceless the entire time!!! I deeply long to write and publish articles about; the debacle that is the Trump campaign, the deep division growing in the Republican Party and the violence! I am just dying to write about the; bigotry, racism, intolerance, xenophobia, hatred, and sexism that has been the hallmark of Trump’s campaign. This is very difficult for me, very frustrating and extremely upsetting.

.

If they can/do replace my motherboard, and my computer works, I will work to write and publish as often as possible. I genuinely long to write about; this election, the Trump candidacy, the tenure of narrative coming from the Republican candidates and contrast that withDemocrat nomination process. I can remember sitting, with my father, and watching the ‘Kennedy/Nixon’ Presidential debate. (The very first one with the sweaty Nixon) As well, I remember a great deal about all the Presidential elections since. My Dear Shoevians, I have never EVER witnessed a more; divisive, hurtful, negative and superficial nomination process (by either party) in my entire life. And, I am missing out on writing about this historic election… because after spending $400 on repairs… my computer still does not work.

.

There you have it, My Dear Shoevians. The why I was unable to keep my previous promise to you. The how I hope to, now, meet that challenge. And the when it might happen. Oh, how I wish I was of the means to just forget the notebook computer I have used for writing and publishing these past five years. How I wish that I had the means to just buy a new computer and all the software that I need/use very single time I write and publish. I could never put into words… the feeling I get when I hit the ‘Publish’ button, and then go and view the article I have written and published at the four blog locations.

.

The pride and joy I feel as I promote the articles I have written and published on; Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Pintrest. For you see, My Dear Shoevians, that right now in my life there are not a lot of times that I do feel pride and joy. That I can have these feelings and bring entertainment and information to all of you, My Dear Shoevians? Well, that is what has given me the desire to live that has empowered me through my diseases and maladies.

.

Finally, I would like to take a moment to say “Thank you!” again to all of you from dropping by… and for many of you… for keeping coming by and visiting throughout the many months I have been absent. I promise you, I genuinely want to return. I sincerely have a ton of ideas and thoughts, insights and opinions, entertainment and information to share with all of you, My Dear Shoevians. I will keep you informed, to the best of my ability. Hopefully, soon, I will be writing you to tell you my computer is either fixed or replaced and that I will be working to achieve my previous publishing schedule. Until then, you can find me on Facebook… look me up and send me a friend request.

.

Adieu!

.

Thank you!

.

.

Welcome back My Dear Shoevians to The Other Shoe. First I would like to extend my apologies for my absence from publishing this past Friday here at The Other Shoe. It was not because I was bereft of material to write about and publish that is for sure. Nope, the reason for my absence is simple; I seem to keep falling in the shower.

.

Below is a short video that I recorded today. I made this video to show all of you, My Dear Shoevians, that I am alive and still all in one piece. Right now, at 2:15PM PDST I am uploading the video for publication just as soon as possible. I am hoping to have this article, and the accompanying video, ready for viewing by 3:00PM PDST (that would be 5PM Central –Texas Time). Right now, it looks as though I will be able to keep this schedule.

.

.

Now! For upcoming work at The Other Shoe. I am working on, just started… but have completed the majority of the research needed, a wonderful little piece that I have titled – ‘Clinton Hate’ Syndrome – Diagnosis and Cure’. I am really happy about this article. Watching the beginning of the 2016 Presidential Campaigns I am struck just how much Republicans are talking about Hillary and not about themselves. Struck by the mounting number of investigations and (fleeting) “scandals’.

.

Why I have just watched as, in a matter of days, a whole ‘Clinton Foundation Donation Scandal’ has gone from a ‘thing’ to ‘debunked’ status in just a matter of days! This is the reason for my upcoming article and the symptom of an ilk (within the Republican Party) that suffers with the ‘Clinton-Hate Syndrome’!

.

Be sure to drop by, later this evening, to enjoy my first ‘political’ work in some time. Thanks and take care everyone!

.

Thank you!

.

Adieu!

A Week in Review – June 21st, 2014

.

Danny Hanning of The Other Shoe - May 6th, 2014

Danny Hanning of The Other Shoe – May 6th, 2014

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Today, Saturday, is a great day for all of you, My Dear Readers, to catch up. Catch up on reading all the great articles that I have written, and published, right here at The Other Shoe over the past seven days. I know that a great may of you do not have the ‘free time’ to read my articles (and storied) during the workweek. That is THE reason I (originally) created ‘A Week in Review’ and why (today) I continue to write and publish this weekly review.

.

For my blog, and all of you My Dear Readers, it has been a ‘good’ and productive week. Including this article I have written and published seven articles in seven days. Now, I have read comments that ‘that really isn’t all that much writing…’ Rest assured when I tell you that is a good deal of writing! Not just anyone can sit behind a keyboard and, in just seven days, produce more than seventy pages of; stories, articles; on Space Exploration, Hubble images from far-flung universes, current affairs and international news, political logjams’ and achievements, and a horror story.

.

‘The Horror in Smithville’ (alone) is well over 95 pages in length, 220, 000 characters and 50,000 words. Each, and every, ‘A Week in Review’ is over ten pages long and contains nearly a dozen links to other content. As well, My Dear Readers, it is not just the writing. During the week I research many topics, sift through dozens of images (for ‘Lost in Space’ and ‘The Mars Report’), and work and rework political articles in an effort to be as factually correct as possible and to try to not offend ANY of my readers.

.

Please do not get me ‘wrong’, I am not complaining… I am just explaining. The work I do is very tiring and, more times than not, makes my pain condition worse never better. Yet, I do not know what I would do with my time if I wasn’t working on these articles, stories and reviews. I just love the work I do here at The Other Shoe. The pain I experience, the physical limitations I have and the declining nature of my disease state causes a great deal of depression. I take ‘medications’ for my depression, but the one thing that works better than any/all my anti-depression medications? A single; comment, question, ‘Like’, ‘Share’ and/or ‘Kudos’ on any of the articles I write and publish each week.

.

Every time I go to the primary location for my blog (www.theothershoe.blog.com) and see the counter has gone above 50!?! I am just ecstatic! To think that more than fifty people, in the last week, have come to my blog and looked at or read my work? Makes me feel like I just might be able to make a difference in the world I live in, still! That I might, still, be able to make people laugh! And, to think for just a moment… just a single moment that my words light help another person see and issue through the eyes of another? THAT gives my life new meaning!

.

So, you now have a better idea just why it is I do all this writing and publishing. I want to help to inform and entertain people; family, friends, loved ones and all my followers here at The Other Shoe and Facebook. Yes… and someday…of course… I would just love to have something of my own to be published in a book or magazine! That will always be the dream, My Dear Readers!

.

Now that I have shared a little of what drives me, and keeps me writing and publishing every week. It is time for another edition of ‘A Week in Review’.

.

  • Notes From Behind the Keyboard – June 16th, 2014: “Yet, today was different. I was extremely panicked upon waking and asked Allen to “turn on the lights… something is wrong!” Much to my chagrin, and Allen’s surprise, when he turned on the lights he discovered that my lips were blue… as was much of my facial complexion. So much so that Allen (usually stoic… almost indifferent) actually gasped when he looked at my face, with the light turned on. Allen then informed me “Danny… I think you stopped breathing. I heard you gasping, again, and I got up to wake you up.” Allen is visibly… shaken; this gave me the chills because Allen just doesn’t show emotions, like, ever.” To this day I have NO idea just what is going on with me at night. Allen has worked every single day since that hospital visit, I hope that soon he can help me get to the doctor I as given a referral. Barring that, I just sleep as light as I can… and (most of the time) sleep with one eye open. Allen is not sleeping very heavy, either. In just the past two nights I have had three bouts of the ‘gasping while sleeping’ and BOTH time Allen awoke quickly and came right over to my bed to check on me! I simply do not know what I would do without Allen. I not only love him more than anyone or anything in the world… I trust him with my very life! This was NOT a good way to start the week… and, looking back, I am really surprised that I manage to finish seven articles in the same week Monday started this way!
  • Lost In Space – Tour of Our Solar System – #2 Venus : “Venus is known as the ‘Sister Planet’ of Earth. This is due to the fact that Venus is closest to Earth in; size, orbit of the sun, gravity and bulk composition. Venus orbits the sun in just 224.7 days. Now, most planets in our solar system rotate, on their axis, in an anti-clockwise direction, also known as a retrograde rotation or ‘orbit’. Further, Venus rotates the slowest of all the planets taking a full 243 Earth Days to complete on rotation. That means that a single day on Venus would last 243 days.” Well, My Dear Readers, this ‘Solar System Tour’ is being very well received by you! It is a lot of work, every week. Sorting through dozens of pages of images, picking which images I think will go best with the article. Downloading the images on to my computer, then resizing the images so they ‘fit’ on the blog page, uploading the images to my blog, then adding them to the text of the article. There is, also, writing of the dozen of so pages of information, news, and background information on each of the planets. However, you would not believe just how much I am LEARNING while I am writing and publishing this ‘Tour of OUR Solar System’! Next week… MARS!
  • The Mars Report – June 18th, 2014 : “On April 18th 2014 Opportunity managed to get some great landscape images of Endeavour Crater Rim from ‘Murray Ridge’. You, My Dear Readers, are very fortunate in that I have downloaded, and am going to share, two different versions of this wonderful landscape image. The difference between the two images is that one (the first) is in ‘True Color’. Meaning, in natural daylight on the Martian surface, the image has been enhanced for better viewing. The second image is done in what is called ‘False Color’. This means that the good people at NASA/JPL have done their best to reproduce the image in ‘Natural Earth Light’. So, if we were to ‘see’ this landscape on Earth, the second image is how it would look here in Earth light.” When I started writing the very first edition of ‘The Mars Report’ (I must admit) I had NO idea that I would still be writing and publishing this series three years later. I started this series with Opportunity and Spirit rovers. Took a bit of a break when Spirit ‘died’, then came back to this series with renewed vigor when Curiosity landed at ‘Bradbury Landing’! Now, each and every week I really look forward to going to the NASA/JPL web site and scouring the site for new and interesting images. Sometimes the number of images are few, but some real science has happened, since the last article. I have a ‘Good Feeling’ about this series, now. I have a feeling that I will be writing and publishing this series when we celebrate the Second 500 articles!
  • Notes from Behind the Keyboard – June 19th, 2014 : “Since my neurosurgeon did not order the correct number of bone graft pieces prior to surgery, one or more bone grafts were not properly prepared prior to implantation into my neck. As seen in follow-up X-Rays the “bone grafts did not fully knit” the my bones. This is the reason that, now, seven years later I still have popping, and grinding sounds coming from my cervical spine, shooting pains in; my upper chest, face, upper left arm, lower left arm, left hand. What this means is that the bone grafts never “completely knit” with the surrounding bone (mine), that the structure is not solid and “durable”.” Long story short? (TOO LATE!) My neurosurgeon underestimated the extend of damage my degenerative disc disease had actually caused to my cervical spine, discs and nerve roots. This caused him to enter the OR less prepared than he need to be, and more overwhelmed by the severity of my condition. Combine that with an untrained vendor representative from the ‘Bone Growth Stimulation’ device and (unknown at the time) a severely diminished level of Vitamin ‘D’ in my blood stream? = Poorly knit bones, unstable construct resulting in spinal stenosis, more nerve root damage and possible growing pressure on my spinal cord. The last neurosurgeon I had a consult with, told me that ‘your condition will, likely, NEVER improve… you will spend the rest of your life on pain medications… you will loose more and more bodily functions until you will be unable to walk, use the bathroom, take a bath or brush your teeth without assistance…” That is NOT my image of what one’s ‘Golden Years’ should be like. I have no choice; I just pray and work hard so that just maybe I will earn enough money to make this terrible future more bearable.
  • The Horror in Smithville – REVIEW – First Eleven Episodes: “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. I would like to extend a deep and heartfelt “Welcome!” to everyone! To this, the third review of ‘The Horror in Smithville’. Today I am here to present; a short introduction, a little teaser, and a link to all of the First ELEVEN Episodes of this wonderful tale. Now, if you are just now joining the ranks of My Dear Readers, you might not know that this is my very first venture into the genre of horror. I have chosen to make this first, a story for young people. However, from what I am hearing (from many of you, My Dear Readers) is that this tale is enjoyed by adults and young adults, alike.” Twice a month I will publish another review, just like this one. This will enable people ‘new’ to the blog and this story a quick and easy way to catch up with the story. My Dear Readers, HONESTLY… when I started this episodic horror story? I NEVER imaged that so many people, from all over the world, would enjoy it SO much! As well, this story has… GROWN on me. Timmy and Archer have GROWN on me… and this whole story just keep getting bigger and bigger in my mind and in my heart. I am, already, ‘seeing’ more and more books! I can see this one story ending… then US returning to Timmy and Archer just a couple or a few years down the line, for yet another adventure in their alternate world! A couple of things… I am still working on the name of the other world. Two, the Latin in this story is giving me FITS! I have not ‘used’ Latin since High School. I used to be fairly versed in the Latin… not anymore. Just as soon as possible I WILL have all the Latin worked out for the; spells, enchants, and ceremonies. My Dear Readers, I want you to know that I am having a WONDERFUL time bringing this horror story to you, and yours!
  • News From Around the World – June 19th, 2014 : “Now, let us proceed with this edition of “News from Around the World’. Today were are going to drop by L.A., Spain, Washington state, and Washington D.C. for a jaunty romp through the headlines. Every week I rummage through headlines to find some of the stories not covered by the network news, and a new take on some that were. Honestly, there were more stories to cover this week, than I had time to properly prepare the article. So, let’s jump right in and get our feet wet!” This is another article series that I started on a lark, which has managed to work its way into the rotation as a ‘regular’. It was worked its way into my mind and into my heart. This is another way for me to share some of my humanist views, without getting all political. Don’t get me wrong! I very much enjoy politics. However, at this point in time politics is being used all to often to DIVIDE people. Therefore, I am doing my best to address POLICY and leaving POLITICS off to the side! Thank you Kathye Warfiedl Rogers for YOUR input on that, it was instrumental in me finding a way to have a voice on policy without upsetting the people I respect and love! Thank you!
  • The Horror in Smithville – Part TWELVE! : “The adventures of Timmy and Archer are as real, and come from my own personal experiences, as any thing I have ever written. There are moments, several of them, which you will be reading today that were literally taken out of my memories as a young man. As an extra special treat, for everyone out there from Pearland Texas, (and everyone that has known me and my scholastic life) there is a very special ‘Guest Appearance’ in today’s episode by someone we all dearly loved.” It is with GREAT pride that I present to you, My Dear Readers, THIS the 12th episode of my wonderfully entertaining FIRST venture into the Horror Genre; “The Horror in Smithville’! With each and every passing week, I am continually amazed at what situations Timmy and Archer get themselves involved… then, just how they manage to extricate their happy butts! I refuse to tell you anything from this episode! There is just no way I can share… without ruining the suspense and thrills that are this episode. However, I will tell you that I have included (in this episode) a Very Special ‘Guest Appearance’ by someone that everybody knew and respected back in Pearland, Texas. I am very proud that he is making an appearance in this story! I REALLY hope that EVERYONE that I know, from Pearland, makes the time to come and read this episode and see ‘who’ it is that I picked for this Special ‘Guest Appearance’. Thanks!

.

That, My Dear Readers, brings us to the end of another edition of ‘A Week IN Review’ right here at ‘The Other Shoe’! I am thrilled to have managed to write and publish another full week of seven articles in seven days. I really hope that everyone takes the time… makes the time to look over all of these fine works. To; look at the pictures, enjoy the stories, be challenged by the information and view into the lives and worlds of others.

.

Yet, if I had but one wish? I would be to do all this work… and be more comfortable, in less pain, get more sleep, and have the means to enjoy the life I have… left. I refuse to beg for that which would make my life more livable. What little I have I thank God for his kindness in giving. I work just as hard as I possibly can, with the physical and neurological limitations I now experience. I do my best to keep my pain out of mind, and be thankful for every moment of life I have left.

.

If I may? I would please, My Dear Readers, ask (respectfully) would you please ‘SHARE’? Share my work on Facebook. Share my posts on Facebook or My Space or Pinintrest or Tumblr. I do NOT do this out of vanity. Rather I do this because I DO believe that my work… is enjoyable and I have a genuine desire to entertain! As well, the more people my stories reach? The more likely it is that… someday I might be able to help to financially support myself!

.

I am, physically, unable to return to work. As my last neurosurgeon told me and documented? It is completely unlikely that I will ever be able to return to the work force. That my condition will only worsen, and that in the coming years… I will loose more and more physical abilities, and neurological abilities. (I will feel less, have les control over my body) I would just like it if I was in a better financial position… when that happens. I think that any/all Americans would want the same for themselves and their loved ones.

.

My Dear Readers, that brings us to the end of the week, the end of this article, and the end of another full week here at The Other Shoe!

.

Adieu!

.

Thank YOU!

Danny Hanning of The Other Shoe - May 6th, 2014

Danny Hanning of The Other Shoe – May 6th, 2014

.

Welcome back, My Dear Readers, to The Other Shoe. Today is Wednesday June 18th, 2014, and it is about 5PM PDT here on the West Coast. I have just shot a short ‘video update’ of me, about my health, my blog, and life in general. With all good fortune, I will have this video edited, uploaded, and published by the end of the day. Most hopefully, I will have it ready for viewing before everyone I know and love in Texas is asleep.

.

If not, I will be promoting the video and this article for the rest of the week. I just might, even, pay the $6.99 to have it ‘promoted’ of Facebook. It would be nice if, like, everyone (back home) knew about the video and had/took a chance to view. There is really nothing (of note) new in my life, my world. Oh, there is this pesky illness… fevers, night sweats, lack of appetite, and a lump on my jawbone and swollen lymph nodes. They (my doctors) have run all sorts of blood tests. All of the ‘usual suspects’ have been ruled out. No, I do not have AIDs. Yes, they do keep running the darn test… year after year. Each year, it comes back negative.

.

My infectious disease physician wants a C.T. scan (Computerized tomography) of my; face, jawbone, upper cervical spine. They are looking for the source of the infection and the source of the lumps. My primary care physician has already weighed in, with a possible diagnosis. He believes that I am suffering the results of an infection brought about by; a) the rejection of bone tissue used in my cervical surgery b) an infection secondary to the rejection of or metal poisoning from the hardware that was used in the cervical surgery. My money is on the bone rejection, and I have my reasons.

.

The single best reason is; the neurosurgeon went in with the expressed desire to fuse three discs into one mass. However, once he got in to my neck he discovered that the (many): MRI(s), X-Ray(s) and other scans had not done justice to the extent and damage my cervical spine had endured from four years of moderate-to-severe degenerative disc disease. What he found was; extensive damage to half-a-dozen nerve roots, one cervical disc was completely desiccated and nearly “fell out” of its place between two discs, severe damage to two other discs, and moderate damage to two more, large amounts of “bone chips” resulting from “Bone-on=bone” grinding (like a mortar against a pestle) resulting from the loss of discs, severely ‘damaged and bruised” nerve roots (up to six were “worse than I have ever seen”), and severe degenerative disc disease all through the cervical and thoracic spine. He had prepared for the removal of two cervical discs. He ended up removing (I believe) three to four.

.

He had reserved the operating room for three hours; I was in surgery for four and a half hours. Resulting in my neurosurgeon having to request more bone grafts during the surgery! Now for a little known factoid; prior to this type of surgery the surgeon ‘orders’ the number of ‘bone grafts’ he needs for the intended surgery 36 to 48 hours prior to the surgery. The bone grafts are then ‘prepared’ for 24-26 hours prior to a surgery. They are ‘prepared’ by (for one) being put into a bath of steroids and human growth hormone bath and a recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein solution. These aid in the bone, actually, grafting TO the surrounding bone, resulting in a sturdy and durable bond.

.

Since my neurosurgeon did not order the correct number of bone graft pieces prior to surgery, one or more bone grafts were not properly prepared prior to implantation into my neck. What this means is that the bone grafts never “completely knit” with the surrounding bone (mine), that the structure is not solid and “durable”. Further, the lack of the bones completely grafting has resulted in raw bone material lying inside the bone grafts.

.

This material, since not healed and knit to other bones, is suspect to and frequently results in “opportunistic infections of the bones and bone grafts”. Aye, there’s the rub! With my limited medical education, I am putting my ‘money’ (I don’t really have any money… that’s why I put the parentheses). It is my opinion that the untreated bone grafts not only did not knit with my surrounding bone, but that they have fallen prey to an infectious state, resulting in the symptoms I am currently experiencing. Now, try and get one doctor to say that about another doctor.

.

Next, the was an “mistake” made by an (admittedly by the corporation) “untrained” medical vendor. I was to have a ‘Bone Growth Stimulator’ placed on my neck, post surgery. Now, according to the company that manufactures the device the bone growth stimulator is to be “Placed on the patient seven to ten days after surgery”. Get a load of this! My bone growth stimulation device was placed on me… … … (drum roll please!) Within MINUTES of me being wheeled out of surgery! That’s right, while I was still under anesthesia, and only moments after my doctor closed the incision, and “untrained” salesperson from the company came and put the bone growth stimulator on me! She removed my solid neck brace, moved my head and neck and shifted me around as the placed four conductive pads around my cervical spine. I awoke, from surgery, with the device already installed!

.

That is never supposed to happen, like ever! I figure that is a ‘contributing factor’ to the why my bone grafts “never fully knit”. Now, seven years later, I am having; fevers, night sweats, hot “lava feeling” pouring down my cervical spine, loss of appetite, dizziness, and fatigue. My Dear Readers, I cannot get to the scan that I really need done, for the lack of someone around to help me; get dressed, get into my power chair, get into transportation, get to an appointment, and reverse the process and get back home and back into bed. For all of those that have (reasonably) thought “Why doesn’t he get a lawyer?” I agree! I wish I had the help to get to a lawyer and see if I have a case.

.

So, that is what weighs on my mind and this is what is causing me great distress, loss of sleep, and depression. My Dear Readers, I really do not like talking about all this, that is why (after FOUR YEARS) I have never, once, mentioned it or explained it to you, previously. Yet, I figured that it was time I gave the information to you… and time I documented this problem in a public forum.

.

Regardless, I will do my level best to continue to write and publish on a regular basis. I will do my level best to bring you entertaining, and informative articles and content.

.

It, just now, is 6:00PM PDT. The movie that I made is just now finishing up saving to my computer. Just as soon as that is complete, I will begin the upload to YouTube. Just as soon as that is done I will upload this article, embed the video and BAAM! I will publish this edition of ‘Note from Behind the Keyboard – June 18th, 2014”. I will, then, go about promoting this article and posting on; Facebook, Tumblr, Pinitrest, and all the other media sites I belong in an effort to get it seen by as many people as possible. May I please, My Dear Readers, PLEASE ask you to ‘Share’ THIS article? I ‘think’ I may have a lawsuit… there is limited time to file… I cannot afford an attorney… However, IF this article is seen by LOTS and LOTS of people… maybe just MAYBE someone WILL see this article that… CAN… HELP… me.

.

Please… ‘Share’ this article on; Facebook, Pinintrest, Google, Tumblr… any and ALL ‘social media’ outlets that you belong to. PLEASE? I might just find someone that can help me… and maybe… just maybe I can file a suit… win… and never have to ask for help from anyone for as long as I live. I might even get enough to pay Darrell (my brother) back!

.

I wouldn’t ask… if I really didn’t need your help.

.

.

That brings us to the end of this edition of ‘Notes from Behind the Keyboard’. Below is a video, the one that I mentioned. It would mean the world to me if you would, please… kindly, please… ‘Share’ this article and this video. It might just help to change the course of my life… for the better. I appreciate all your kindness, support, understanding and continued readership.

.

Adieu!

.

Thank YOU!

Danny Hanning of The Other Shoe - May 6th, 2014

Danny Hanning of The Other Shoe – May 6th, 2014

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. First, I would like to express my regret that I have not written, or published, in several days time. This is for one simple reason. I am still waiting for my primary blog location (at Blog dot com) to be fixed! It has been more than four days since I have been able to edit or publish at this, my primary blog location. This is really disappointing to me, and has put quite a cramp in my writing schedule.

.

As most of you, My Dear Readers¸ know I (generally) publish seven to ten articles per week. However, with one (my primary) location down I am hesitant to publish solely at this location. Now, if the unthinkable happens and; all four hundred seventy-five of my articles at The Other – The Other Shoe (www.theothershoe.blog.com) are gone… for good, I am unable to continue my blog of FOUR YEARS at that location… then I will be forced to switch and make this location (here at Word Press) my new primary blog location. This is not what I would like to happen. My Dear Readers, I would very much like to have my missing work returned to me and my control over content returned to me.

.

Now, if (perchance) you are here at Word Press today having not found my blog location at blog dot com, then Welcome! I hope that you enjoy my work here and I hope that you will continue to drop by, enjoy my articles and stories and tell family and friends about my blog(s). Next, today Allen and I had the fortune to meet a very nice person. Allen and I went out to have out hair cut, and the young man that cut Allen’s hair expressed interest in my writing and blogs. His name was Kelly. Kelly, If you have found your way here ‘Welcome!” It was my pleasure to make your acquaintance. FYI you did a wonderful job on Allen’s hair. Too many people have not taken the time, or effort, and left Allen with an unsatisfactory hair cut.

.

Yes, My Dear Readers, I do meet people in Real Life and tell them about my blog. I am always working to increase readership, and friends… too. J Kelly, if you have managed to find yourself to this, my secondary blog location, Congrats! I gave you the URL for my primary location… but as I have explained there are real and substantial problems with that location… that I am anxious to have resolved. Hope you had a great day, and that you have a wonderful weekend.

.

Now, back to the problems with my blog locations, My Dear Readers. I am really hesitant to write and publish a large amount of content; stories, articles, political faire only to have to cross-publish once the primary location is back up and running. It has been three days since I was able to; edit, upload media, or publish articles. I am going to give it until Monday… before I make a decision about continuing to publish here at Word Press in spite of the failure at blog dot com. Now if you have been a reader for some time, then you know that this has happened before with blog dot com. One time, the whole blog was just gone for more than a week.

.

Drove me nuts! Yet, I have to consider that the service is free… and I just need to be patient. As for my regular articles. Let me put your, My Dear Readers, minds at ease. Just as soon as my primary location is working you will see a return of; ‘The Mars Report’, ‘Lost in Space’, ‘The Horror in Smithville’, A Week in Review’, and ‘Sunday Funnies’. I do not enjoy depriving all of you of this great and enjoyable content. Yet, as I have explained, I simply detest having to spend an entire day publishing (re-publishing) everything I have written while blog dot com had its problems.

.

Now, for Kelly and all you ‘New Readers’… You can still read over four hundred great articles at my primary blog location (www.theothershoe.blog.com) and there are over 300 articles right here at Word Press! I implore all of you, new and regular(s), to take some time and wander around my blogs. Take in all the work that I have shared over the past four years. Honestly, I am willing to bet that no one can actually read everything I have published (in four years) before I get my primary blog location back up and running.

.

There. Done. Now, I am going to vent a little. I am deeply disturbed that I have been denied any and all administrative control of my primary blog location for the past 72 hours. It is upsetting… and really frustrating to have someone stand between me and my written works! Ticks me off to no end, I can tell you what. Having said, once it is back? I may well be running an all new Indiegogo Campaign to raise funds for me to; lease access to a URL, obtain web hosting, lease blog software, and recreate my original blog The Other Shoe on a web host of my own! I have been tossing around that idea for the past two years. Now, I believe that the time has come… I grow weary of waiting for others to return my creative content back to me. That just stinks.

.

So, My Dear Readers, that is what I have been up to for the past several days. I have written over fifteen technical support requests to the Web Masters at blog dot com. Not once have they responded! That is pretty unprofessional, and pretty darn upsetting, too. I am going to keep writing support requests. I am going to keep monitoring The Other Shoe at blog dot com. I am going to keep writing… and holding it back… Yes, once I am ready I DO have a good deal of content ready to be published.

.

That brings us to the end of this edition of ‘Notes From Behind the Keyboard’. I hope that everyone sticks around to see just how the problems with blog dot com… resolve. Yes! I do have Part Nine of ‘The Horror in Smithville’ in varying states of readiness. And, YES! IT is quite good. Timmy’s zombie Wolf bite is getting worse and Archer is beside himself with grief. They do not know where to turn… when a brand new character makes an appearance… That is all I am going to tell you, right now. But… it is very good. (And well worth the wait).

.

To all my new readers, “WELCOME!” and that goes for you, too, Kelly. I hope to see you all again very soon. Until then have a great and enjoyable Memorial Day Weekend.

.

TTFN!

.

Adieu!

.

My Dear Readers,

For the past ten days I have been unable to write or publish. First, it is an average of 80° in my apartment at any given time. This alone plays Hell with my condition an pain. A well the notebook computer I do ALL my work on, is nearly ten years old.. The only reason it still works is that I refuse to operate the computer in a room 75°, or warmer. A cool computer runs faster and live longer.

.

Therefore, I have been UNABLE to; write, publish, edit ANYTHING while my apartment is so bloody hot! They are schedule to replace my non-working A/C TODAY! As soon as that is done, and I am bathed, the apartment is a reasonable temperature I WILL PUBLISH.

.

My apologies…. I can only hope an pray you will all come back to; read, enjoy an be entertained and thrilled once my home is back to normal. FYI, I am sitting in my front room dripping with sweat, writing this on a tablet and waiting for the repairman. It will be good to be cool, again. I will write and publish soon.

.

Thanks for your continued support!

.

P.S. My Dear Readers, my dreams have seen fruition. About two hours ago the maintenance finally finished cleaning the A/C to be installed in my apartment. Just about 90 minutes ago… It was installed! Yes, I now have a completely clean and working Air Conditioner in my apartment.

.

That means, over the coming days, I will return to my regular writing and publishing schedule! Right now, I am not going to promise which publication(s) I will make, when, as I am very tried. I have not sleep, through the night, in more than ten days! Tonight, I need to rest and sleep. Tomorrow… I will begin my day by starting the computer I use to write, upon waking.

.

Fear not, all the regular article series have been on my mind. ‘The Horror in Smithville’ is riding in my frontal lobe, all ready to be put to words… put to paper (as it were), and shared (Published) On TIME! That is all I will put in stone, as it were, at this moment. You all know that I long to return to Mars and Curiosity… and the Hubble Space Telescope. By week’s end… you will have a good deal of reading material for your edification and entertainment.

.

Thank you for your patience and understanding in this trying and difficult time, MY Dear Readers. Now, I am off to have a nice dinner, and a long and restful sleep.

.

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Well, I awoke, this morning, to find my blog here at blog dot com is working! This is great news for me, and for you My Dear Readers. Since my happy discovery I have been working to put together issues of all our favorite articles, for your reading pleasure. Now, to be honest, I must admit that I was rather enjoying having some down time while the blog was… missing.

.

I used the time to play some PC games that I never have time to play, when I am working on the blog seven days a week. You see, for most people there are enough hours in a day, to do both. I may just have to start pushing my writing to three to four days a week, and spending the rest of the time resting and/or playing games that I find relaxing. Thing is, I did have some time to enjoy riding around in a forest, killing some monsters, and making some beneficial trades. An enjoyable time was had by all.

.

Next, today is Wednesday and it is 1PM in the afternoon. I am going to make a good effort to write and publish an edition of ‘The Mars Report’ for this week. Once it cools down here, it is over 90 already outside and my air conditioner (the second one they have put in my room in two weeks) is not working! Taking all the pain medications that I consume makes me very sensitive to heat. Sensitive in that if the room I am in is over 73 degrees I become nauseas and dizzy. Often times I will pass out… I dislike the fact that I cannot seem to get a working A/C unit in my apartment. What I wouldn’t give to be able to go out and purchase one for myself and be done with the lazy staff.

.

OK, I am going to publish this update, and then back to working on either an issue of ‘The Mars Report’ or ‘Lost In Space’. Come back here, in about two to three hours, and see which I have published!

.

ENJOY!

.

Adieu!

.

Thank YOU!

Danny Hanning of The Other Shoe – May 6th, 2014

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. My Dear Readers, I know that I haven’t published in several days, For that, there is a good reason that started Friday afternoon. I only have Allen as any kind of caregiver. As my disease state progresses, this is getting to be a less tenable situation. Case in point, this Friday afternoon, I was preparing to bathe… which in good circumstances is a difficult task. I had already bathed Alexander and he was drying in the front room.

.

When I had drained the tub, after Alex’s bath, I began to run it for myself, and left the bathroom with Alex in tow. For whatever reason… I get distracted… I was involved in getting Alex dried… For whatever reason, I took way too long. Suddenly I think the water is running in the bathroom!

.

Bye the time I get into the bathroom… it is flooded… as is the adjoining kitchen. I rush to the tub and turn off the water and pull the plug. How I am left alone in the house, with about an inch to two inches of standing water all over the bathroom and kitchen. Get everything off the floor… take off your slippers and socks… too late they are all ready ruined… still getting e3verything off the floor and into the front room… front room carpet is now getting wet… grab towels and begin this process – soak up water into large bath towel… lift bath towel from floor… rest half under my left arm at the shoulder… grip towel between upper left arm and shoulder and right hand… twist… repeat… about… ten THOUSAND times… Bye the time Allen got home, at 2PM, there was still about an inch of water all over the floors.

.

Now, did my best to clean up the mess I made. It left me in terrible pain for the past three days. It is Sunday morning, and I am still so very very sore. This, My Dear Readers, is why I have not published in several days. I hope that everyone understands, and returns to the blog… now that I am writing. It has been a very difficult and painful several days. Now, if I could actually afford a caregiver… anyway. Now, on with ‘A Week in Review’!

.

I must admit, and am very happy to announce, I managed to publish seven articles this week. Still keeping up this pace, for now the fourth month in a row!! I had a doctor’s appointment, this week, in L.A. and still managed to write and publish a full week’s work of seven articles. Yeah, I am pretty darn proud of that fact. Now, without further adieu I give you ‘A Week in Review’:

.

  • Sunday Funnies – May 4th, 2014 : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. If it is Sunday, then it is time for ‘Sunday Funnies’! This week has been a difficult week for me, My Dear Readers. My neck is swollen… actually the lymph nodes in my neck are swollen. All day Thursday thru Saturday I was running fevers of between 101 – 102 degrees. I have a horrible raspy cough, that crackles in my lungs like gravel, and I ache all over.” No wonder it’s been a rough week, all around. This is how it started out… with fevers, chills, and being sick! I had totally forgot that I was sick, just one week ago. Now, it is Sunday again, and I am just so very sore all over. I can hardly lift my hands to type, and my back is in terrible pain from my neck to my butt. Once I am finished with this article… and then ‘Sunday Funnies’ I am taking the rest of the day off!
  • The Mars Report – May 5th, 2014 : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. A big welcome back to ‘The Mars Report’ for May 5th, 2014. Tomorrow I must make a journey, by mass transit, from here in Orange County all the way into Los Angeles County, Rolling Hills Estates. I leave at 8:30AM and return home at 8PM. Yes, a twelve hour journey to see one doctor. Anywho, I am mentioning this because I am pressed for time, today. Therefore, this will be a shortened version of this storied series. Not to diminish this edition, because in this edition you will get to witness… … … Martian Dunes MOVE!” Amazing that while this was published and most of you , My Dear Readers, were reading this on Monday I was preparing for my visit, the very next afternoon. It HAS been a terribly eventful and stressful week, for Danny. Yes… I AM resting for the rest of this Sunday!
  • Lost In Space – May 6th, 2014 : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. An amazing fact came to my attention, just today. You see… I have been In LOVE with; Space, Space Flight, Space Exploration, Space Images, Star Gazing, Star Maps… you get the idea, since I was like an aware human being. Like most star-nuts I have a favorite constellation. The amazing fact is that in all the editions of ‘Lost in Space’ I have not once featured my favorite constellation. Therefore, the image you see above addresses this shortcoming!” Truly AMAZING was while you all were reading THIS article I was in transit to and back from Los Angeles! It was a very good visit, and we are working to get to the bottom of my frequent fevers and illness. This edition of ‘Lost in Space’ ended up being a very good edition, in deed. In spite of the terrible frantic pace of the week, I was still managing to mange my workload and some private time… some. In this edition, there are some incredible images from millions to billions of light years away. I hope that everyone takes the time and gives this edition a good look-see. ENJOY!
  • Notes from Behind the Keyboard – May 7th, 2014 : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Now, before I get started on today’s edition of ‘Notes from Behind the Keyboard’ I wanted to take a moment to express my ‘Thanks!’ to people, without whom, my journey yesterday would not have been possible. I would like to say “Thank you!” to: All the drivers and support people at Orange County Para-Transit Access, Los Angeles County Para-Transit Access, the good people at OCTA and MTA, all of the nurses and support people at Palos Verdes Medical Group, my Primary Physician Dr. L. Gorlick, the phlebotomist and technicians from Memorial Medical Services at PVMD, and my caregiver and significant other of 27 years Glen Allen. Yesterday was my quarterly follow-up visit to my primary care giver, and good friend Dr. Laurence Gorlick.” Always wanting, and working, to keep you, My Dear Readers, in the loop… here are some photos taken while I was on my journey, and a flayer from the mall where my doctor’s office… is. It was quite a difficult journey, but time well spent. Take a moment and read about my journey, and see the photos and the flyer.
  • REVIEW – ‘The Horror in Smithville’ First Seven Parts! : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. I am sitting here, in an apartment way too hot to work… or even live, trying to get cool enough to start writing Part Eight of ‘The Horror in Smithville’ when I had a great idea. Prior to returning to writing the next chapter… maybe I should present a review of the first Seven parts! This will give me a chance for the room to cool…. Hopefully… and a chance to review everything that has happened to Timmy and Archer in the first sixty-five pages.” Here are LINKS to ALL of the FIRST seven episodes of ‘The Horror in Smithville’. I, originally, published this article to fill in time, and to encourage people to check out this on-going series. Much to my surprise, a Facebook friend (and someone from my childhood and hometown, Pearland,) asked me, on Friday, is there was a single place where she could get caught up with the story. Where are the first seven episodes? She asked. I would it terrible coincidental that just days before, I had published an article with just such a list, and links to all seven previous episode. Now, here is your chance to get caught up in, and caught up on ‘The Horror in Smithville’… This story really is gaining traction! YEAH!
  • The Horror in Smithville – Part EIGHT : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Just as promised, I have worked through the night, and most of this morning, to make sure I was able to publish the much anticipated (and slightly tardy) Part EIGHT – ‘The Horror in Smithville’! You know, My Dear Readers, I am really glad that I didn’t promise any particular; plot twists, character changes, plot lines or story lines prior to writing.” Here it IS!! After many readers having waited another week, just to read this episode, here is the much anticipated PART EIGHT of The Horror in Smithville’!!! I am not sharing any spoilers, here today… so if you want to know “what happens”? You will just have to take a few moments and read this great episode, yourself! ENJOY!
  • The Deep Web – Review of First Three Issues : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Today, Friday, I have decided to take the time to review the first three issues of ‘The Deep Web’ prior to continuing with this series. From what I am seeing in my traffic reports, a good many of my current readers are ‘new’ readers. New to The Other Shoe. Having said, I think it prudent that I review the very first three issues so that these ‘new’ readers can catch-up on this series.” After careful consideration, and much hand wringing, I decide to return to this series. Therefore, in order to get everyone up to speed, I have published this review of the first three articles. Be sure to check back, right here, nest Friday for Part Four, of this very controversial and informative series.

.

Well, My Dear Readers, that brings us to the very end of this week’s review. I hope everyone had enjoyed this romp through the collective works of the past seven days. I am simply amazed, looking back on the events of the week, that I managed to write and publish all this work. It just goes to show you, I really do want to share and inform.

.

Now, I a simply must rush. For I have, still, to publish this then write ‘Sunday Funnies’ and publish… before I can rest… again. Thank you for all your kindness and until we meet, again,…

.

Adieu!

.

Thank YOU!

.

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Laurence Gorlick.

.

Without the help and support of all the people, named above, I would not have been able to make the twelve hour and 89 mile journey. Now, I just know what most of you are thinking, and with good reason. ‘Danny, WHY, in the world are you traveling that far just to see a doctor?” Simple, from 2005 to 2013 Dr. Gorlick’s office was located just six blocks from my home in Cypress, CA. However, late last year he left his practice in Los Alamitos (of 23 years) and returned to his practice in Rolling Hills Estates.

.

Promenade on the Peninsula

Promenade on the Peninsula

.

Dr. Gorlick has seen me through, two surgeries, a minor stroke, innumerable minor illnesses, my allergies, and had help to manage my pain so that I am able to function and even write without fail nor falter. Next, have any of you tried to find a new doctor… in the past decade? Most, are flakes if not quacks, and all too many could really care less about getting to know their patients, much less being involved in their pain management. Even the nice Infectious Disease doctor I saw, wanted to farm me off to a ‘Pain Control Specialist’. Horsefeathers!

.

Most of those specialists are of the mind that ‘nobody really needs pain medications’ everything can be solved with ‘physical therapy’ and ‘exercise’. ROFLMFAO Then they have never experienced pain secondary to nerve root damage and spinal cord stenosis. For four years six of my nerve roots were ground between two rock hard discs of my cervical spine, ground like between a mortar and pestle. I have had no less than four neurosurgeons calmly explain to me that “Mr. Hanning, you will be in severe pain for the rest of your life… most likely ended by a small fall resulting in your own spine severing your spinal cord.” Allen often wonders why is it that he will, sometimes, just see me crying. For no apparent reason… I break out in tears and start to cry. Let’s have a doctor tell you that (^) and see if you don’t find yourself crying for no apparent reason. I have my reasons.

.

So, yesterday I made my way into Los Angeles, and then back home, via Disneyland. Ironic, that on my way to my doctor’s office, I pass through ‘The Happiest Place on Earth’. None-the-less, I had a very good appointment. I explained the progress I have made on the newly discovered lump on my jawbone. The consultation with the oncologist, and the urgency of having said lump removed and a biopsy done. Dr. Gorlick had some blood drawn, wrote out prescriptions for more pain medications, listen to my lungs… he always listens to my lungs, then we talked briefly about his family and back on the road, again, back home.

Once I got home, well, my travels were not over. I got in the door and immediately took out Alexander R Hanning. He does not like being left alone at home for that many hours. I was rolled up in a fury little ball in the corner of his cage, with his fur on end. Yeap, that is one pissed off rat! So, I took Alex out of his cage and held him close to my face, kissing his little ears and face. Within about thrity seconds he was grinding to beat the band and licking my face.

.

Yes, fancy rats are a lot like small dogs. Anyway, now that I had Alex all squared away, I got myself something to drink. About this time I see it is 5PM… I am in so much pain I am nearly blind… It is almost time to take my 6PM pain medication. I open the travel container I keep my pain medications in only to realize that in my haste I had totally forgot to take my noon Pain medication. Well, now that would go very far to explain the terrific pain that I am feeling and why it feels like my spine is drilling right through my neck muscles.

.

I take my 6PM pain medication and put the missed dose back into the jar. No way am I doubling up on Percodan… I like to BREATHE! So, now I have taken my pain meds, soothed a pissed off rat, and washed up a little. Now, it is time to get back into my power chair and make the journey four blocks to the pharmacy to drop off prescriptions, and pick up four prescriptions. It is about 8PM when I leave the house for the pharmacy, it was 12 hours before that I got on my first para-transit to get to L.A.. Twelve hours, and still miles to go before I sleep.

.

My Dear Readers, I write and publish this work not to complain. Rather, I write this article and share it with you to show just how hard I do push myself, all the time. Yes, I am disabled. Yes, I have little feeling or use of my left hand. Yes, I am in real and substantial pain from the moment I wake every day to the moment I fall asleep every night. However, NEVER will I allow my pain or disability to prevent me from getting what I can… done. I do not look, nor ask, for pity. NEVER!

.

Sometimes, I will ask for… help… support… a hand in making ends meet… or to put food on my table… or pay off a nagging debt. However, before I ever would think of doing that I will try every imaginable way possible to deal with it alone… by myself… first. It is pride… a devotion to a belief that I must do for myself, the best that I can, and never ask for help of any kind. Oh, I will gladly take your accolades, your applause, your “Likes’ and ‘Shares’ and won’t miss a beat. I believe in myself. Ask Allen, I have a pretty high opinion… of myself. I enjoy my own writing, and know that (in time) I can do better and better, still.

.

I am quite fortunate to have been raised in a way that I; ‘Have the courage of my convictions, and the convictions of my beliefs’. Case in point; I am about to start writing Part Eight of ‘The Horror in Smithville’. How I have not revisited this piece for more than a week. Have not written, have not published a single word or phrase. However, I know that when I sit down at this keyboard (or microphone) that the world will appear before my eyes. That the characters will all come into my mind and play out their roles.

.

I know that the story will continue…. Because? Because, My Dear Readers, the story lives on inside me. I am not writing of some foreign world. I am not putting words into the mouths of strangers. Timmy and Archer they live within me. I can see through their eyes, I can feel their fear, enjoy their happiness, know their aspirations, and revel in the success. Believe it or not… understand it or not… this is the way I write. I write from the inside, out. When they shed a tear, I cry. When they face their fears, I know their pride.

.

Be it genetics, antics as a youth, a typewriter that dropped on my head nearly thirty years ago…. MY body will never be as it was… I will never… again in my life, run. I may never be able to climb a tree… ride a horse… and never touch the stars. However, My Dear Readers, do not shed a single tear for me. For I live through my characters… I live through my work. When I am ready, I will venture to the stars… and I will do it through my writing, via my characters… and I will know their joy.

.

I could fall in my bathtub tomorrow… slip and fall… cause my discs to sever my spinal cord…. I refuse to live in fear. Until… my time comes, I will write. I will share, and my characters… they will share with me. Share with me those things I cannot do… and I will smile.

.

Thank you, My Dear Readers, for coming here… once again, and reading what I have to share. Your readership means the world to me. I solemnly promise to you. As long as you keep coming here to read? I will always do my best to give you some to read. Be sure to drop by later tomorrow… as I rejoin Timmy and Archer in ‘The Horror in Smithville!
