Republican SCoTUS Debacle

Prs Obama Merrick Garland

.

Welcome back, My Dear Shoevians, to The Other Shoe. Today I am going to take the opportunity to point out one of the failings of America’s Democracy. Hang on, let me be clear America’s CURRENT Democracy’ because, as you will learn from this article the level of intransigence, by Senate Republicans, is a new and disturbing wrinkle in our democratic process. If you are on of my American readers, you are completely aware of the publicized intransigence of our Republican Senators. Violating the Constitution, Senate Republicans abdicated there right/responsibility of “advice and consent” of a Presidential nomination of a replacement for a open seat on the highest court of our land, the Supreme Court of the United States.

.

Now, for those Shoevians that did not take civics in high school, here is the salient paragraph of the U.S Constitution:

.

He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.”[1]

.

A simple read, even for all my readers that are not U.S. citizens, yes? According to Article 2 Section 2 Paragraph 2 the sitting U.S. President has the right/responsibility/honor/DUTY to nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the Supreme Court…” Now, AmericanRepublicans are always harping on; “follow the Constitution…”, “honor the Constitution…” “STICK TO the Constitution…” Unless/Until doing so puts their interests are jeopardy. Right?

.

MORE for my International Shoevians – America is embroiled in an era of hyper partisanship that we have not see since the Civil War[2]. I am not proud of this fact, in fact I have often written about this symptom of a social disease, and will continue to point out that it is (primarily) one party that had brought the division and intransigence to our government and our nation’s governance. This maladystarted with the (artificial) creation of the ‘Tea Party’. (A misnomer and disingenuous on its face because there never was a political party by that name) Now, the intransigence that has earned the House of Representatives the moniker “The Least Productive Congress in History”. Now, this social disease has infected the Republican leaders of our elder body (of our Congress) the Senate.

.

According to the U.S. Constitution clearly states that a sitting President shall (for every day of his term) shall appoint nominees for vacancies on the highest court of our land, the Supreme Court of the United States. Nowhere in our defining document of our democracy does it; state, hint, imply or define that a President, in his last year of elected office shall not exercise his Constitutional responsibility and neither shall the Senate do exercise their Constitutional responsibilities. This is an unusual, but not ever rare, occurrence. So, My Dear Shoevians, there is history for us to look at. I have barrowed the research, below, to minimize my level of pain… writing and publishing this article, today.

.

History of Final Year Nominations of Supreme Court Vacancies:

.

• 1968: President Lyndon Johnson — who announced he would not run for re-election — nominated Associate Justice Abe Fortas as Chief Justice and Homer Thornberry to fill Fortas’ vacancy. Fortas’ nomination failed, Thornberry withdrew his nomination and Chief Justice Earl Warren remained on the bench, delaying his retirement.

• 1932, President Herbert Hoover nominated Benjamin Cardozo. Hoover lost to Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

• 1912: President William Taft successfully nominated Mahlon Pitney to the Supreme Court. Taft lost to Woodrow Wilson.

Three other presidents made successful Supreme Court nominations while running for re-election, but unlike Taft and Hoover, they won another term:

• 1956: Dwight Eisenhower made a recess appointment of William Brennan.

• 1940: Franklin Delano Roosevelt nominated Frank Murphy.

• 1916: Woodrow Wilson nominated John Clarke and Louis Brandeis [3]

.

There we have it, My Dear Shoevians. Whereas this does not happen often (a sitting Supreme Court Justice passing/retiring) it doeshappen enough for us to have a recorded history to review. One cannot dictate when any given person will pass away (die), and I am sure that if someone could have asked Justice Antonin Scalia, prior to his death, he would have not wanted to pass away while there was a sitting President that was/is a Democrat. However, the fact remains that Justice Antonin Scalia did pass away while there was a Democrat in office.

.

Finally, for my international Shoevians, there is a hard reason for the intransigence of our Senate Republicans. The current make-up of our Supreme Court is 5/4. There are five conservative/conservative leaning Justices sitting on that bench and there are fourLiberal/Liberal Leaning justices. This appointment can/will change that mix… and change it in favor of a ‘Liberal Bench’. These things happen, Americans. Maybe it is some Galactic Intervention because of rulings like; ‘Citizen’s United’[4] FYI that was a ruling, here in America, that gave corporations the same rights (as far as political contributions and influence) as a PERSON! Yes, that is completely absurd… bordering on insanity… and the why I think that reality is doing this shuffle on the bench.

.

Now, as all political followers know, there is brinkmanship in all types of self-governance. Be it a Republic or other type of Representative Government there is… discord and brinksmanship, but this is different, for America. I looked and looked and found one quote that helps me define how this is different.

.

Senator James Inhofe, R-OK

Senator James Inhofe, R-OK

Sen. Jim Inhofe (Ok.) “…we will not accept any nomination from President Obama.”

.

Does that sound like it is not personal? Be sure, this is personal and it is against our TWICE elected sitting President of the United States – President Barrack Obama. Yes, Republicans are fearful that if ‘Citizens United’ is brought before a new Supreme Court of the United States that has a more left-leaning court? It will be overturned. That is there fear and that is there motivation of not ever giving a hearing to the man President Obama just nominated for the open seat on the Supreme Court of the United States.

.

My Dear Shoevians, this is March of the final year of his Presidency. It is not like it is November and the American people have gone to the polls and elected the Republican nominee. This is much different. Historically, Presidents get hearing for nominations for thewhole time they are elected to office!

.

America’s Republicans are making the American democracy appear broken! This is very very bad, and reflects poorly on our entire nation. Not just on Senate Republicans. Not just on Republicans. It reflects poorly on our entire nation… our Republic… our Democracy!America has the longest surviving democracy in the history of mankind. That is not just an honor. That is a responsibility! A responsibility to execute the responsibilities of your elected office every/all days your have been elected to serve. A handful of Senators, belonging to one party, cannot be allowed to besmirch the (long earned) reputation of this democracy. This is historically bad!

.

My Dear Shoevians, I am experiencing a lot of pain… at this point. So, I am going to cut this article short… here. I will be back to publish about this debacle… soon. I appreciate everyone that has come by to read and learn. Have a great Hump-Day and I will be back here, soon!

.

Adieu!

.

Thank you!

The Republican Party of 2014, is there HOPE?

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Late in the day, on Wednesday of this week, I wrote an answer to a post of a very good friend on Facebook. Looking back, on this post, I realized that… either due to pain, or overwhelming need of sleep, I had managed to write a synopsis of a problem that has plagued our great Republic for more than a decade. Many times, over the past decade, I have tired and worked tirelessly to put to voice the root of this plague.

.

Either by chance or due to mental awareness unimpeded by restraint, I finally managed to put to voice something I had struggled with before. Below… I am sharing that posting. I do this… because not all of you, My Dear Readers, have me as a friend on Facebook and you might otherwise never see this synopsis of the plague of our great Republic.

.

Read and be informed. Read at your own risk;

.

The great divide, within the Republican party, will be huge fodder for; authors, historians, and writers of all stripes for generations. Let me explain their dynamic, in small words. Billionaires, with political axes to grind, took over the Republican party at the turn of the century. Talking heads, hired and supported by some of said billionaires, flooded airwaves with divisive hyperbolic rhetoric (focus group tested and created). The ‘Radical Right’ started running over moderates alienating any but the ‘converted’. With tens of millions of dollars invested in; redistricting scams, voter suppression and the creation of the ‘Tea Party’. (Yes, there is now proof the tea party was not created by grassroots movements as previously claimed), the Radical Right forced an extremist agenda on a once reasonable and ‘Grand’ party. With the help of the internet, Americans (mostly absent from politics for their entire lives) were drafted and given a ‘voice’. They went to web sites and printed out their ‘talking points’, flooding town meetings in ever state. Within a decade the Republican party was split in twain, when Steele was replaced with Rance Prebius the extreme became the center and American politics saw a huge shift right… In the process the center was lost. Considered debate lost to one-side hyperbolic rhetoric. Compromise became a four lettered word, lines were drawn… in blood. Most non-partisan political watchers… bloggers… writers agree. America is more divided than any time since the Civil Rights movement… or the Civil War. America has lost its ability to reach a consensus. Lost the Unity that was so instrumental to our greatness. The ‘War on Poverty’ and compassion were replaced with overt greed, avarice, and a ‘War ON the Poor’. Since the 20008 recovery 98% of all wealth generated has gone to the top 1-5%. The Middle Class has been more than decimated (to decimate is to reduce by 1/10, and often misused in media). I am one of few Americans with the courage to speak up about the horrible harm… done to our great Republic. WE are ALL guilty…. We LET this happen to the greatest Democracy in human history, handed down to US by the ‘Greatest Generation’. One day… Americans WILL weep at what was lost and what we left them. 2014 Will look and sound like all the past elections. And I will cry.

.

Two points, in this posting, are salient points. First, we cannot, sitting in time where we do today, know how authors and historians will judge today’s political environment. However, if you can take a step away from ourselves, our own political beliefs and agendas, we might catch a glimpse of what will be written… in time. We must learn from the political mistakes of the past (at least) several years.

.

For the very first time in the history of our nation our Congress is gripped with intransigence. I have looked at the records, I have scoured the numbers. The last three sessions of Congress our House of Representatives has been ‘the least productive in history’! There have been years, during the Civil War and during World War Two, there were single years where, either due to the lack of members or sue to too many Representatives serving their country, a single year saw fewer bills passed into law.

.

However, NEVER BEFORE in the history of this great Republic has a Congress, specifically the House of Representatives been so gripped by political ideology that intransigence was so pervasive. Resulting in several sessions in a row being ‘the Least Productive in History’ through no fault of war, or civil unrest. This cannot stand, least America’s democracy fails. Congressmen, elected to serve in the House of Representatives are elected as LAWMAKERS.

.

When these duly elected Representatives fail to be lawmakers and, through the pursuit of political purity, choose instead to be seen as “law repealers” (Spoken by Speaker of the House John Boehner – Face the Nation 2014) we, all Americans, are forced into a crossroads. Shall we allow elected Congressional Representatives to violate the Constitution and their ‘Oath Of Office’ and merely draw a check, and do no work?

.

How, then, will history judge us? Not only will history, time, judge these intransigent and lawless Congressional representatives harshly, will they not truthfully judge us, too, as complacent with their lawlessness? This does not bode well for the continuation of our Constitutional Democracy. If duly elected Congressional Representatives are allowed intransigence by voters, how can our democracy function? Will this not set a precedent, where when ever a group of lawmakers collectively decide to hold the lower House in the grip of political ideology resulting in a democracy plagued by intransigence, will it not fail?

.

We, as a nation, cannot go without the rule of law. Nor can we go for any prescribed period of time without the writing of law, and rewriting of law whose time has passed? Aye, there’s the rub! For even if you are of the mistaken ideal that ‘there are too many laws’ how, then, can you reconcile your inaction with the tides of change the tirelessly flow through our society? Laws expire as the need for them wanes. How, then, can we undo, rewrite or prescribe new, when laws come to a point where their existence does more harm to a society, than good… If there not sufficient lawmakers willing to work to; rewrite, undo, repeal or prescribe new?

.

You see, My Dear Readers, there is where there sophomoric ‘reasoning’ fails horribly, and our great Republic right behind. This is why I bring to bear great arms against this wooly logic proffered by the political ideologists. They may grouse at my methods, they may taunt and insult me (personally) for my “attacks” but it is THEY that are the root of the plague. Why not should I attack, like an antibiotic or an antiviral, the very disease that plagues our great Republic?

.

I leave you with this, I fight against intransigence because I have the foresight to see that it is an attack on our very democracy! I will not stand idly by and allow my nation’s democracy, and the Republic, be attacked without defending with all my will and powers. To all those that would attack America with intransigence and political purity? I give you fair warning; I will take no prisoners I will show no mercy… no quarter! Be yea fair warned.

.

Addendum: Since I first penned this article, I have been catching up on my reading. Seems that the Tea Party is perched to “leave the GOP” as soon as the 2014 elections (just six months away). In state after state, moderate GOP candidates are drawing sistinct lines between themselves and the “radical policies” of their (used to be) Tea Party brethren. In Kentucky sitting Republican Senator Mitch McConnell (minority leader in the Senate) has brought his huge ‘War Chest’ to bear against is Tea Party primary contender. Matching his rhetoric with his actions Senator McConnell has issued a threat to all those Tea Partiers that would ‘primary’ mainstream GOP candidatures. Saying:

.

The goal is to deny them any Senate primary victories, cut into their fund-raising and diminish them as a future force in Republican politics. “I think we are going to crush them everywhere,” Mr. McConnell, the Senate Republican leader, said in an interview, referring to the network of activist organizations working against him and two Republican incumbents in Kansas and Mississippi while engaging in a handful of other contests. “I don’t think they are going to have a single nominee anywhere in the country.[1]

.

It is my (informed) opinion that IF (and that is a BIG ‘IF’) the GOP/Republican mainstream can surgically remove the Tea Party Cancer? It would be the single greatest achievement by Republicans (Mainstream Republicans and Moderate Republicans) in the past decade! Quite honestly the Tea Party is the reason that Republicans have yet to gain a majority in the Elder Congressional body, in contrast to holding the majority in the Lower House for three elections.

.

Further, IF the BOP can be successful in quashing all Tea Party primary entries, and replace Reince Priebus with… say, Michael Steel? That would signal the single greatest stabilization of the party, and a rebirth of the Grand Old Party. It is no secret that the Tea Party (lead and created by billionaires like the Koch brothers and other billionaire political amateurs) has cost the Republican party; TWO Presidential elections, the Majority in the Senate and THREE terms of the “Least Productive Congress in History”.

.

If the Tea Party were a single player, say, on a baseball team? They would have been cut from the team some time ago. Like this nutcase in Nevada, what’s his name… Cliven Bundy? You know, the nutcase that (until two days ago) Sean Hannity (at Fox) had crowned as the poster child for state’s rights, and “like the Founding Fathers”? Well, now Sean Hannity is doing just about anything (short of actually admitting the mistake he made, out of political expedience) to distance himself from Cliven Bundy, post racist remarks against African Americans.

.

SEE, right there that is the problem with the Tea Party and those (politically uninformed, or political rhetoric parrots) that make up the vocal part of the Tea Party. From “I’m not a witch” to this week’s “African Americans were better off as slaves” the kind of people that are self-described Tea Party members are generally unelectable. That is a fact that has cost the mainstream of the Republican Party dearly! I genuinely hope that the core of the Republican Party, the moderates that guided the party prior to the ‘Invasion of the Body Snatchers’ that was the ‘Tea Party Movement’, can remove the cancer. I hope that the Grand Old Party can be brought back to its former glory, take a stand in the ‘Center-Right’ of the political debate and begin again making compromises so that government can work!

.

So long as the extremists, the ideologues of the Tea Party that have thrown a monkey wrench into the inner workings of Washington, and labeled intransigence a “political victory” have the Republican Party by the short hairs our nation is at risk. For any democracy that simply cannot get the work of governance done, is a democracy headed for extinction. I have long said that “intransigence must be replaced with compromise” and that as long as “Republicans allow Freshmen Congressmen and Senators contorl the debate, is like letting the teenager in the house4 control the budget!” That quote, of mine, is from ‘Face the Nation’ and Bob Schieffer asked it of Senator Mitch McConnel, ironic that now he is trying to stop the Tea Party from winning any Republican primaries.

.

My Dear Readers, any thinking person can clearly come to the understanding that intransigence is no replacement for compromise, and that parroted hyperbolic rhetoric s no replacement for informed debate. PERIOD! I am just glad that someone finally took my advice and are ready to jettison the dead weight of the Tea Party. Kudos to Senator Mitch McConnel!

.

As always I am deeply honored that you come here and read my work.

.

Adieu!

.

Thank YOU!

A Week in Review – February 8th, 2014

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. This week was an adventurous week, as it is every three months. I have a quarterly appointment with my primary care physician. He is located in Los Angeles County, Rolling Hills Estates. You can read all about it in the article linked below ‘Danny Update – Medical February 4th, 2014’. I have made this journey, now, four times. It is getting easier, each time.

.

This article is not about this journey. This article is my weekend review of all the work I did manage to get accomplished. Actually, I am pretty darn impressed that I managed to publish as much as I did, this week. Usually, the week of my twelve-hour journey, I only get one or two articles published. Part of the reason, I feel, is that my doctor finally upgraded my pain medications. This has allowed me relief from pain, more often. As well, I am desperate to keep writing… as I am hoping that if I write… someone… will… help.

.

Either way, and without further adieu, here it ‘A Week in Review’:

.

  • ·        Sunday Funnies – February 2, 2014 : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. As I always say; “If it is Sunday, then it is time for ‘Sunday Funnies’ at The Other Shoe! Of late, I am doing my best to catch Alexander R Hanning while he is doing some of things that endear him to me. He; Hops, Skips, Jumps and other kinds of festive moving, that express his happiness with being my son. He does these most when he has woken up, in bed with me and after he has eaten some human food he enjoys.” Alexander talks more and more often than any other rat I have ever owned. He talks longer, and I swear… he listens and then replies. Sometimes he gets so into what he is saying, that his whole head bobs in an exaggerated fashion. Alexander wants to talk to me. Even though he does not say words (he has no lips), I can tell what he wants to communicate… most of the time. Rats understand our language, by listening to inflection and recognizing patterns. Just like dogs and cats. I am working to get more and longer videos of Alexander talking. Look forward to seeing them here, soon. Tomorrow (Sunday) you will get to see Alexander PLAY!
  • ·        Danny Update-Medical February 5th 2014 : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. First, I would like to “Thank you!” to everyone that came by last week, and the week before. I am not sure if you all noticed, but? I now have several articles with 45 ‘Likes’ and that hasn’t happen in a month of Sundays! Thank you for all of the ‘Likes’ and Shares and mentions to friends and family. You have no idea just how Good I feel when I see all the traffic and all of the ‘Likes’. It makes my day, or week.” I really do hope that I can repeat the level, quantity and quality of work I produced last week. Not often have I seen that many articles with that many ‘Likes’ in one week. I am gratified and deeply moved by that large a show of appreciation by you, My Dear Readers. Now, I understood that this week was going to be slower. There is just no way humanly paossible for me to prepare for my visit, spend a day away, and recover and still get that much work done, of that quality. I am proud of the work I have accomplished this week, don’t get me wrong. It is just… well, when I see, like, 45 likes on SEVERAL articles in one week? I am very happy… and I think that I actually might (some day, soon) be able to make some money with my writing. Thank you for putting that smile on my face, My Dear Readers.
  • ·        The TRUTH About CBO Report and the ACA: “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Just yesterday headlines of many web based ‘news’ and media outlets blasted the ‘Affordable Care Act’ (aka Obamacare) as a job killer. These creative writers posted that “Obamacare will cost 3 million jobs…”. However, if anyone would have taken the time to read the CBO report, they would have found out the truth was something else indeed. Below is a quote from the Los Angeles Times February 4th, 2014:…” This is the kind of disingenuous and manipulative hyperbolic rhetoric that motivated me to create this very blog. It is still my strong desire to be a counterpoint, to anyone willing to read and listen, to the hyper-partisan rhetoric and disingenuous reporting done by certain cable media outlets. I am no ‘saint’, I will make mistakes and I am in no way shape or form perfect. Having said? My Dear Readers I will never lie to you! I will never publish something I know to be false, and I will do my level best to be honest and forthright in all I write and all I publish so long as I have the privilege of life. This week several media outlets sought to drum up support and increase their base by misquoting sections of a Congressional Budget Office report on the effects of the Affordable Care Act on the economy. They took sections out of whole sentences, and they presented these bits and bites in such a way as to misrepresent the report. They engaged in gravely disingenuous reporting and they defied your trust in their organizations. I respect you, My Dear Readers. Any media outlet that chooses to act in that fashion, does not respect you, My Dear Readers. If you are still laboring under the opinion that the ACA (a.k.a. Obamacare) is going to cost the economy 3 million jobs? You owe it to yourself to read this article and find out the truth. Thank you.
  • ·        A Little Family History : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Every three months I am required to make a long an arduous journey. That journey happen this Tuesday, and I am still feeling the pain. Gratefully my doctor improved my pain medications, and I have actually managed to sleep a night or two, in the past four. However, I am quite bereft of the physical ability it takes to produce. Produce the writing, at the quality and quantity, you My Dear Readers have become accustom.” This material was first published nearly three years ago. The subject of my mother’s place of birth, and how/where my Father and Mother met, came up in my doctor’s appointment on Tuesday. It is not often enough, that I have the opportunity to write and publish work… like this, this uplifting and enjoyable. I am working on a whole story, based on the chance meeting of my parents, and their background. I had not told my doctor that my mother was a Native American born on a reservation in New Mexico. Nor had I told Dr. Gorlick that my father met my mother, very near that reservation, while he was working on the Manhattan Project. If you have never read this, take some time and give it a read today. You really won’t regret it. As well, it will give you an idea of the other kind of writing I can accomplish… and a glimpse at another novel I hope to publish. Enjoy!
  • ·        The Death of Our President : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Today, My Dear Readers, I was confronted with the very reason that I started this blog back on March 22nd, 2010. Since the campaign that catapulted Senator Obama to become President Obama I have been troubled by voices. Voices coming from the extreme fringe of the Republican party. Elements of this radical fringe have engaged in hyperbolic rhetoric. They have created doubt about; the citizenship of President Obama, the legitimacy of his election, elements of his past, and even his (self-described) Christian religion.” I wrote this article today, and it was today that I saw the video of a woman demanding the execution of President Obama”. That she did so right in front of a sitting Republican Congressman, and he did nothing to discourage here bloodlust. As a matter of fact he actually encouraged her bloodlust and built on her hyperbolic rhetoric. THIS IS the reason that I started this blog back on March 22, 2010. EVERY AMERICAN SHOULD KNOW that it is Republicans that are sewing these seeds of hyper-partisanship, make no mistake. Further, the better President Obama does his job the more they feed this hyperbolic sickness. I have no problem with partisanship. It was designed into our system of governance for good reasons. However, hyper-partisanship is a disease that must be identified and rooted out where ever it is allowed to take hold. I simply cannot believe that a sitting Congressman encouraged an American citizen to demand that a President be executed” merely because they do not agree with his policies. That is not what it is to be an American. That is, very much, what it is to be a deeply disturbed American… I will write and stand against this kind of radical politics so long as I have life in my body and breath in my lungs. America deserves better than this disingenuous hyperbolic rhetoric being sewn into the very fabric of our nation merely for the propose of growing a hyper-partisan divide in our country.

.

That, My Dear Readers, brings us to the end of this edition of ‘A Week in Review’ and to the end of another week here at The Other Shoe. I hope that you have enjoyed reading, as much as I have enjoyed writing. I wish that I could bring you more, today. However, my hand is in terrific pain… as is my neck and all down my back and into my face. As well, I am without energy… I apologize, My Dear Readers…

.

I am still without much food in my home. I do my best, honest I really do. I am not lying about how much money I make… I do not lie about the lack of food I suffer. I sincerely apologize for even mentioning this problem. However, it was a good friend  that told me… “Danny, if you don’t tell people your needs… there is no way those that want to help, know when they CAN help.” I am asking for help. I have written in many articles how to help. One way is to click the link below to my eBay Store for The Other Shoe. Please… if you can… Please do help. GOP ‘Golden Boys’ In Dog House!

GOP ‘Golden Boys’ In Dog House!

.

Governor Chris Christie

Governor Chris Christie Facing ‘BridgeGate’ and Hoboken Debacle

(By Walter Burns [CC-BY-2.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0)%5D, via Wikimedia Commons)

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other ShoeThe title says it all, the top two ‘Golden Boys’ of the GOP both find themselves in the ‘Dog House’ surrounded by investigations and scandal. It was just two years ago when Governor Chris Christie and (Former) governor Robert McDonnell were top contenders for the VP seat with Mitt Romney. The RNC and Reince Priebus (yes, I DID spell that correctly) were bent over backwards kowtowing to these two juggernauts of the Republican party. I am amazed at how things can change, for these two ‘Golden Boys’, in just the past twenty months.

.

The newly inaugurated Governor Chris Christie funds himself at the center of two storms, built out of revelations of abuse of power. The first, ‘Bridgegate’, swirls around allegations that Governor Christie and his administration used the George Washington bridge (linking the state of New Jersey @ Fort Lee to New York city) as a tool to extract revenge on the mayor of Fort Lee, Mark Sokolich, and the people of the city of Fort Lee. Revenge enacted because Mark Sokolich was not playing ball with Governor Christie’s reelection campaign and redevelopment funds connected with Sandy Relief.[1]

.

Last week I sat in amazement as the first of those to be questioned by members of the New Jersey State legislature, David Wildstein repeatedly took the Fifth Amendment and refused to answer questions as obvious and simplistic as

.

“this email has redactions in it, correct?”

.

Within hours of his hour and a half appearance Mr. Wildstein signaled, to the House investigation team, that he would be ‘willing to spill the beans if offered immunity from prosecution…’

.

“Wildstein’s lawyer Alan Zegas told The Associated Press on Friday that there has not been any offer of immunity from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, which is reviewing the matter. “If he has immunity from the relevant entities, he’ll talk,” Zegas said.”[2]

.

There is an old saying; ’If there is smoke, there is fire’, so one can safely assume that if Wildstein thinks he should be offered immunity… then illegal acts were committed that require iimmunity from prosecution. Wildstein was just the very first to be brough in front of this investigative committee, and as of last week the new legislature has extended the authority of the investigative committee. That means, Governor Christie’s efforts to wait out the clock, failed!

.

My Dear Readers this is just the single investigation by the State House in New Jersey. There are pending investigations, of ‘Bridgegate’ and Governor Christie’s involvement, pending by; The State Attorney General’s Office, The United States Senate and the Federal Bureau of Investigations. Seems Governor Christie interfered with interstate commerce by toying with the traffic on the George Washington Bridge. Now, My Dear Readers, this is just the Number One investigation against Governor Christie. Seems the Governor, and/or members of his staff and/or Cabinet, had their busy little hands in more than one pie.

.

Hoboken. It’s not just another funny name of a city, any more. Hoboken is the center of the second scandal and investigation centered on Governor Christie and/or members of his staff and/or Cabinet. The Mayor of Hoboken, Mayor Dawn Zimmer, has come forward and given sworn testimony to a Federal Prosecutor. [3]

.

This the second scandal revolving around Governor Chris Christie, boils down to the allegations by the Mayor of Hoboken (Dawn Zimmerman) that the Lieutenant Governor  of New Jersey (Kim Guadagno)  threatened:

.

“…that Sandy aid would be contingent on moving forward with a private development project,…”[4]

.

See there is lots of money, coming from the Federal Government, for redevelopment in areas damaged by Hurricane Sandy. Commonly referred to as ‘Sandy Relief Funds’. These funds should just be going to the communities most damaged by the floods and hurricane. However, it seems that there is a lot of gamesmanship going on in New Jersey about where the funds will end up being spent. As well, there are (allegedly) political ties to these funds. The Mayor of Hoboken has given sworn testimony (to the U.S Attorney for New Jersey) that the Lt. Governor relayed word from Governor Christie that either Mayor Zimmerman “got the ball rolling” with approval for a specific redevelopment plan or ‘there would be no Sandy funds, forthcoming…’.

.

There is much more than just the word of  Mayor Zimmerman against Lt. Governor Guadagno. It seems that the Mayor made contemporaneous notes of this meeting, and what she was told, in her personal diary. This personal diary has been turned over the U.S. Attorney’s office. This will all, over the coming weeks and months, unfold in the public eye. Regardless of the eventual outcome, these two scandals and following investigations will greatly hamper Governor Christie’s ability to govern without interruption and scrutiny.

.

I am amazed at just how far Governor Christie has fallen in just a matter of a few weeks. If the State Legislators give immunity to anyone then everything will come out on ‘Bridgegate’ and all paths lead to Governor Christie. I cannot miss the chance to compare these scandals to a double barrel shotgun pointed directly at Governor Christie’s administration and his second term in office. I simply cannot imagine that this Governor has the same standing, heading into the 2016 Presidential election, as he did just twenty months ago.

.

.

Now, for the other ‘Golden Boy’ of the GOP. I am talking about ex-Governor Robert McDonnell and his wife, Maureen. Now, this scandal is actually further along than the Christie scandals above. Both Robert and Maureen Mc Donnell have charged with:

.

“illegally accepting gifts, luxury vacations and large loans from a wealthy Richmond area businessman who sought special treatment from state government…[5]

The indictments allege that the Governor and his wife repeatedly demanded gifts of;

.

“loans and gifts of money, clothes, golf fees and equipment, trips, and private plane rides. The gifts and loans totaled at least $165,000…”[6]

.

They are facing a 14-count indictment coming out of a federal probe. This inducement alleges; fraud by a public official, giving false statements and obstruction on top of the bribery and accepting gifts in exchange for political favors.[7]

.

Fortunately, for the GOP, Robert McDonnell has left office. However, I cannot escape the grand reveal behind both of these stories. That, given time, the two ‘Golden Boys’ of the Grand Old Party are now both being soundly revealed as individuals that freely engage in untoward activities and display a propensity for skullduggery.

.

Let me be clear, neither party is made up of people and individuals immune from scrutiny. However, one can easily see a pattern of behavior come into focus. This pattern seems to cling to one party, one group of wealthy and powerful Republicans. Two Republican Governors that, only months ago, were top picks for the Vice President position and now in the forefront for the 2016 Presidential election.

.

This is not good for the Republican party. Quoting Republican Newt Gingrich (not something I often do) Newt said this on Meet the Press on one of the few times I was watching David…

.

““If [the Republicans’] competitor in ‘16 is going to be Hillary Clinton — supported by Bill Clinton and presumably a still relatively popular President Barack Obama — trying to win that will be [like winning] the Super Bowl. And the Republican Party today is incapable of competing at that level.” [8]

.

So, now the Republican party is facing this “Superbowl” of an election with its top two ‘Golden Boys’ greatly hampered by their own skullduggery and over-reach of power. :et me be crystal clear, Americans will forgive a great many sins, done by their favorite politicians. However, proven abuse of power is not one of those thiNGS Americans so forget… nor forgive.

As always I am deeply honored that you came here to read my work.

The Least Productive Congress in HISTORY!

The Least Productive Congress in HISTORY!

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Let’s start, today, with a question… shall we? If you were the least productive; person in your office, salesmen on the floor, or worker in your store would you have a job? Answer honestly. Nope, you most likely would not have a job. If you had the lowest sales, the lowest productivity numbers, did the least amount of work in your job you would (most likely) not have a job, correct? Then why is it that right now, today, Republicans still have jobs as Congressmen and Senators on ‘The Hill’?

.

“The 113th Congress is going down as the least productive group of Washington legislators in modern history.”[1] (PBS)

.

“The 113th Congress has passed 55 bills into law this year, seven fewer at this point than the 112th Congress, making it, at least for now, the least productive Congress in history.” [2].(Huffington Post)

.

“Even the infamous “Do Nothing Congress” of 1948 did more.

Washington lawmakers this year have approved just 55 laws and, with only a handful of days left, will almost certainly go down as the least productive crop of legislators in modern history.”[3] (Boston Globe)

.

“The 113th Congress has passed all of 55 laws so far this year, seven fewer at this point than the 112th Congress — the least productive Congress ever.” [4] (New York Times)

.

Now, My Dear Readers, that is four independent sources all saying the same thing about the 113th Congress. When I was in high school, and learning journalism, we were told to use three independent sources, I have provided you with four. If I wanted to, I could fill this entire article with quotes from over fifty different sources, all stating the same thing. The 113th Congress of these United States of America have been this single least productive legislators in the history of our Republic. Now, let me get back to the question I started this article with, shall I? If you sold… Closed the least number of sales of homes would you still have a job as a real estate agent? No, most likely you would not. If you processed the least number of loans, as a loan agent in a bank, would you still have a job? No, most likely you would not. Then why is it, My Dear Readers, why is it that Republicans are still in control of the House of Representatives of the Congress of the United States of America? For two years in a row now Republicans have distinguished themselves as being the least effective and least productive legislators this nation has seen it in its entire history. Gript with intransigence, focused on purity, and repeating this same task over and over and over again this Congress has distinguished itself as being completely ineffectual at the jobs to which they have been hired.

.

Did you know, My Dear Readers, that in just the past two years Republicans have held nearly 45 votes to “repeal Obamacare… ”? 45 times they have brought the same nonsense to the floor of the House of Representatives. Remember that number, 45. Right now the 113th Congress of the United States of America has passed 55 laws. If you remove all of the house keeping bills; naming post offices, naming national holidays, giving out awards you would be left with eight less pieces of legislation. That leaves us with 47 actual laws that affect the United States of America passed by the 113th Congress. That is only two more than the times they have tried to repeal Obamacare. My Dear Readers the very definition of insanity is to repeat the same thing again and again expecting a different result. If we were to hold this body of legislators by the same standard as individuals are in our society? The Republican leadership of the 113th Congress would fully qualify as being an insane body.

.

Question? You are the least productive real estate agent. You are the least productive loan officer. You are the least productive; teacher, Gardner, firemen, policemen, hamburger jockey. You lose your job, correct? Then, my fellow Americans, our duty is clear. What must happen must be crystal clear to every single person in the United States of America. The Republican Party has been the majority of, held the Speakership in, and been in charge of the House of Representatives of the Congress for the United States of America for two sessions. The two least productive sessions of Congress in the history of our entire Republic. Our path is clear. Were they; a real estate agent, a loan officer, a teacher, a policeman, a burger jockey they would lose their job. So must the Republican majority of the House of Representatives of the Congress of the United States of America.

.

This is not about partisanship. This is about common sense. We can no longer allow the pursuit of political purity to impede the progress of this, the single most powerful nation in the history of mankind. No longer can political purity, Intransigence, and the pursuit of a singular goal preoccupy all the time of the People’s Congress of this great nation. While Republicans have held the House of Representatives in the Congress of the United States of America in some sort of temporal hold, does the world stands still? No, the world, its economy, its people, they all keep moving forward. The world around us keeps moving forward; its workers, its companies, they all continue to be productive. We cannot, we the people of the United States of America, in good conscience continue to support a party that has proven it’s pursuit of purity, its singular focus to be a detriment to the future of our nation and of our people.

.

Again, this is not partisanship My Dear Readers this is just about common sense and the pursuit of productivity. How long can America… How long can the United States of America hold its preeminence as the single greatest superpower in the history of our species if the People’s body of the Congress of this nation is held in the grip of Intransigence and hampered by a historic lack of productivity? Quite simply, My Dear Readers it cannot. Republicans have proven, with their actions and their words, that the pursuit of party purity and the Fellowship of Intransigence are the hallmarks of their current leadership. That being said, we cannot in good conscience continue to present the mantle of leadership to that party. Now My Dear Readers I would be saying these very same words if it were the Democrat Party that had locked our Congress… The house of the people of this great nation… locked it in a pursuit of purity and the Fellowship of Intransigence. I would be calling for the ouster of every single Democrat legislator in that esteemed body. However, that is not the case My Dear Readers. The fact of the matter is, the 112th Congress of the United States of America, the House of Representatives, was the least productive at the beginning of this year. Now that we come to the end of the year, and the end of another session of the House of Representatives of the Congress of the United States of America, we find ourselves in a position where Republicans have out done themselves in the art of non-productivity.

.

I have been writing about our nonproductive Republicans now for two years. Many outlets of our media. here in America and across the world. have been writing about the lack of productivity of Republicans while controlling the House of Representatives. The time for talk is over. The time for action is at hand. Let us not be dissuaded from the obvious task at hand. Let us not allow our nation to be gripped, yet another year, gripped by Intransigence with thoughts of party loyalty. It is now time for all of us, all voters of the United States of America, to stand shoulder to shoulder and in unison and kick the bombs out.

.

It is my humble opinion that come November, of our coming year, no American, in good conscience, knowing what we know now… Knowing what I have put forth on this blog for two years… Knowing the real truth about the Republican leadership of the House of Representatives of the Congress of the United States of America. No American in good conscience should be able to vote for Republican now sitting in the house of the people the Congress of the United States of America. Shakespeare put it best;

.

“To take arms against a sea of troubles, and by opposing, end them.”

.

It is now time, my fellow Americans, for all of us to take arms against the sea of troubles that has gripped our House of Representatives in intransigence. To take arms against the Republican Party that has caused this frozen democracy. To take arms and by opposing END their Intransigence. By opposing their lack of productivity. By opposing their pursuit of purity and their fondness for Intransigence. End them. End the intransigence. End this sorry lack of productivity.  END this frozen democracy.

.

As always I am deeply flattered you come here and read my work.

The Implosion Heard Round the World

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. It brings me no sense of pride to report on this implosion. However, we are bearing witness to the implosion of the Republican party. Again, I will emphatically state, I am a ‘Reagan Democrat’. It is a matter of public record that I voted for Ronald Reagan. Anyone that knows me, knows that I believe in; personal responsibility (I have lost twenty pounds of weight, and damaged my health just to avoid asking for Food Stamps), that I will harm myself before asking others for help (just last month, I caused serious damage to my health when Allen left my side… for three weeks I forced myself to do work I knew I shouldn’t and I am still paying the price with increased pain and decreased mobility and loss of use), and I absolutely hate asking for government handouts. (I am still reluctant to ask the County of Orange to pay Allen for the work he does to help me overcome my disability, even though he is fully qualified and I completely qualify for said aid).

.

Anyone that doubts my bonafides is just looking to pick a scrap with me. I vote for the person and not the party. Yet, today’s ‘Republican’ party is rapidly becoming an embarrassment to much of the nation… and the world. Here is what David Letterman said, last night, when commenting about the rampant dysfunction caused by the rift within the Republican party;

.

“Maybe we could put in some calls… and see if England will take us back…”

.

Ok, David is a blue-blooded Democrat. How about Speaker John Boehner?

.

In explaining the origins of the first government shutdown since 1996, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) reportedly admitted to President Barack Obama earlier this month that he was “overrun” by his Republican caucus.

“John, what happened?” Obama asked Boehner on the second day of the shutdown, according to Politico.

“I got overrun, that’s what happened,” (Speaker) Boehner replied as he reportedly tried to exit a White House meeting for a smoke break.”[1]

.

Now, the talk inside the beltway is that Speaker Boehner is going to resign, come 2014.[2][3] Seems that the Speaker just can no longer take the pressure of answering to the With House about his inability to heard the cats that currently make up the extreme fringe of his party. See, I have always had a quite respect for the Speaker… hell, any Speaker of The House of Representatives… the Speakership is a position that should be admired and respected (as should the Office of the President of the Untied States… regardless of who is President or which party they represent).

So, Speaker Boehner is just getting tired of taking the flack for the actions of the; Cruz(s) and Paul(s) of his party… the radicals that just seem to want to burn down government and let everyone run gunshot over their neighbors. Do you remember the footage of Senator Paul (loudly) whispering to Senator McConnell, last week, in front of an open mic? Well, it was Senator Paul that just put Senator Mitch McConnell in front of the far right’s firing squad. See, we can thank Senator Mitch McConnell for being reasonable and marshalling support for the compromise that was passed by the Senate, and the House. Yes, Mitch threw in a $2.9 billion rider for improvements to locks and dams on the Ohio river within Kentucky (now, known, as the “Kentucky Kickback’[4]) [I am on the record for backing the actions of Senator McConnell in doing WHAT HE WAS HIRED FOR… and getting a little pork for Kentucky and addressing a real problem with the Ohio river valley in his state]

.

Now, Senator McConnell may well loose his Republican primary because (Jim DeMint’s) Heritage Foundation is;

.

“former Senator and Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint, has endorsed Matt Bevin, the Republican challenger running in a primary against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.”[5]

.

So, here we are… a senior member of the Republican party… the Minority Leader of the Senate is going to get primaried (I literally hate this new ‘verb’) by the extremists of his party. Why? It is because Senator McConnell is seen as compromising with President Obama and assisting in the return of a functioning government. As opposed to, the alternative, supporting known Republican blowhard and embarrassment of the nation Senator Ted Cruz.? His (Senator Ted Cruz’s) actions have caused Republican approval numbers to plummet.

.

Just 24 percent of respondents have a favorable opinion about the GOP, and only 21 percent have a favorable view of the Tea Party, which are both at all-time lows in the history of poll.”[6]

.

Senator Cruz’s grandstanding may have hurt the party… the national economy and cost the Federal Government $24 billion[7]. However, it did help Senator Cruz to raise money$$$

.

“In three week period following Cruz’s speech — even as GOP’s national approval ratings plummeted — conservatives frantically built their fundraising lists and campaign coffers. In the last quarter, Cruz’s political action committee raised in $797,000, nearly twice what it pulled in the quarter prior, and Heritage Action — which has pressured conservatives to vote against any bill that does not undermine Obamcare — collected $330,000.”[8]

.

And

.

“Basically, Cruz admitted that he personally has benefited during the previous three weeks. He has culled more than 2 million email addresses from a site opposing Obamacare.

In addition, Cruz’s PAC pulled in almost $800,000 and he is considered a front-runner for the Presidential nomination by some conservative Republicans.”[9]

.

See, My Dear Readers, these are the outward signs of the deep division within the new Republican party. A handful of radical Republicans are using the shutdown of government (and all the personal and economic harm that causes families and our economy) to further their personal political career at the expense of the party and nation.

.

The fear of being primaried runs through the veins of every single Republican Congressman and Senator like ice water. Many Senators, and most Congressmen, hang their heads in shame as the few damage the Republican brand, and the nation, knowing there is little they can do without risking their own political careers.

.

It is this fear that is the real infection harming the Republican Party and the Republican brand. The fear of being primaried by the well funded extremists of the Republican Party. The fear of being seen, again by this radical and extreme fringe, as working with Democrats or the President. However, it is not just for the Republican Party I have concerns. It is for our nation, and our two party Republic.

.

See, in our two party system if one of the two parties is infected by fear? Our whole system begins to fail. As we saw in the past debt debacle. Let me outline;

  1. First, it was about “Obamacare” how it wasn’t ready… “not ready for primetime” ( I don’t know that our politics should be rated like primetime television… that whole analogy just scares the crap out of me.)
  2. Then, it was about “fairness for the American people…” See, like ALL Federal LABOR Laws, the Federal Government is exempt from compliance… (you cannot sue the Federal Government) Senior Republican members used low information voters to gin up anger over a regular legal exemption.
  3. Then, it was about the “poor World War 2 Veterans… unable to visit the memorial…”
  4. And several butcher’s aprons… (Monty Python reference…)

.

The fact of the matter really was? Fund raising and the furtherance of a handful of political careers. Because, you see, nothing was actually done about; Obamacare, the Federal Employees Exemption, National Park Closures… or the poor aprons of butchers.

.

Earlier this week I wrote, a not so well received, article outlining the deception and lies that are being perpetrated on the poor unwitting Republicans across our great nation. Like a canary in a coalmine filling with noxious gas, I squawked my warning to all those who would dare to read. Here it is Friday, and I am working my fingers to the bone, and causing myself untold pain and suffering in my neck and back. All for the very same reason. I deeply care about our nation, our government, our Two Party system, and the Republicans that are unwittingly being lied to and lead astray.

.

I only hope that My Dear Readers understand the genuine nature of my concern. Further, that my heart, mind and soul are all working together to communicate a genuine and valid concern to the people of these United States. There is a terrible disease infecting our national debate.. our national dialogue and our two party system. This infection stands to damage our body politic and cares not of the personal harm it does to any single American. We, the American people, need to see this infection for what it is… and not be so easily lead.

.

It is very much like the warnings we received, as children, about the stranger with candy. Don’t get into the car with strangers with candy. So it is, today.

.

As always, I am honored that you come here and read my words. Please, keep coming back… I am working just as hard and fast as I can to produce good quality content for YOU, My Dear Readers.

.

Thank YOU!

Video Announcement of Return to Political Blogging!

Welcome back, My Dear Readers, to The Other Shoe. Just in time to blog about the end of the government shutdown, and the complete failure of Senator Ted Cruz to “defund Obamacare…” I have made this video announcement of return. I hope to write freely and frequently of all things political. My Dear Readers, I have greatly mellowed and I can assure you that my political articles will not have the bite or harsh rhetoric that may have been in my past.

.

I mean no disrespect to my fellow Texans or any Republicans that may read my blog. I will not pull my punches, but there is no need to make these articles personal or attack-articles. I love to write, so very much, and now I am going to have freedom to blog political. Soon, I will be writing five to seven articles a week.

.

When I meet with Dr. Gorlick, November 5th, I am going to ask that he change/upgrade my pain medications so that I might be able to spend more time behind the computer. I genuinely want to write more.  Honestly, the one factor that keeps me from writing more frequently is the PAIN. Once I have his support and moved to the next level of pain medications, I just know that I will be able to write frequently and regularly.

.

Below is a short video announcing my return to political blogging. I really hope that I do not loose Facebook friends… or Readers. That would just cut me to the quick.  So, click on the video, watch my announcement… and Enjoy!

.

As always, I am deeply honored that you come here and read my work.

.

Thank you!

The ‘Dud’ Cruz Missile…

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. As well, welcome to the very first article of a political nature… I have written (and published) in ‘a month of Sundays’. I must admit that I have willingly silenced my political voice… for potential personal gain. My Dear Readers, you all know that I am suffering under immense financial distress. I do my best, with the tools I have… with the education that I have… and greatly limited by my physical and neurological…. deficits.

.

I cannot walk… without a cane… without a limp… and for greatly limited distance. I cannot stand… nor can I lift or carry… without dropping. I do my best to sit behind a keyboard and write. Out of a deep love for you, My Dear Readers. I know that in the coming years, once I have my works published… and my writing is helping to put a roof over my head. I will look back on this time with a certain amount of shame. Shame that I had yet to figure out how to turn my words into cash… without Indiegogo.

.

I am getting closer, every day, to that turn of the worm. I know that you, My Dear readers, will still be with me. Still reading this blog, and my words. That fact is about the only thing that gets me out of bed, each and every morning. Honestly, with the pain that I endure, each and every day, that I am working with/through this very moment? I am very much surprised that I still number among the living.

.

Proof that no matter 'where' Dan 'is'? Dan is Always a PROUD TEXAN!

Proof that no matter ‘where’ Dan ‘is’? Dan is Always a PROUD TEXAN!

.

Now, for the ‘Good Stuff’. Be yea FAIR Warned. For those of a weak constitution… for those of a weak mind… for those SO enamored by the anger and hatred of the ‘Far right’? Be fair warned, the following is T R U T H. Unequivocal… Unabashed… Undeniable, TRUTH. I will take no hostages. I will not ‘bandy ’my words. What you read, here today, from this point forward is the reality of our political world… here.. in America.. today.  I have no time for the weak minded. I have no tolerance for the un/ill informed. I have held my tongue (against my better judgment… and with harm to my very soul) for far too long. That ends… T O D A Y! If, because of what I write, you decide to; ‘Unfriend’ me on Facebook… withhold kindness and/or support. So be it. Honestly, if you choose that course of action? You are only doing yourself harm.

.

[The following is written out of a sense of responsibility… loyalty… sincerity and not to gloat. I gain no pleasure sharing what I am about to share… writing what you are about to read. Please… bear this in mind… and in your heart, as you read my words. This is/was a labor of love.]

.

I voted for Ronald Reagan for President. I was proud as I watched President Reagan work with the Democratic Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tip O’Neal. I was proud to be an American. Today, not so much… not so much at all. Right now, as I write these words sitting on my bed, the United States Senate is voting to end (what I call) ‘The Cruz Debacle’.

.

It is an unfortunate fact, and now a historical fact that Republican leaders have been lying to their supporters. They have been lying about the core of their run(s) for office since 2010.

.

“Senate Republicans were being disingenuous in their claim to support defunding (Obamacare)… “ [1]

.

They lied about the very vote(s) they took, on legislation to “defund Obamacare”.

.

“The heat has been turned on for Lindsey Graham, and he is feeling it. The embattled republican senator from South Carolina is relying on misleading semantics to deceive voters into reelecting him over his two serious challengers, state senator Lee Bright (R) and businesswoman Nancy Mace… Graham voted in favor of cloture… for cloture allowed debate to end and the final vote to take place.”[2] .

They have lied about a simple reality. The reality that the United States Senate would never vote to pass a bill to “defund Obamacare” and that the President Of the United States, President Barack Obama would never sign legislation to “defund Obamacare”. For the past three years Republican Congressmen and Senators have been flat-out lying just to get elected/reelected.  What to know what is worse than all those lies? That all too many Republican voters… believed those lies.

.

Like sheep to the slaughter, Republicans all over our great nation have been lead by lies and liars. Every single Representative, from both Houses of Congress, knew full well that they had zero chance of “defunding Obamacare”. Yet they sold this false bill of goods, time and again. Election after election, much to the dismay of people like you.

.

The people of “The Great State of Texas’ should feel the most betrayed of all the Republican voters in all of the fifty states. Here is the reason, why:

.

“In January of 2011, Houston attorney Ted Cruz announced he would seek the United States Senate seat being vacated by Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson.

When asked why he wanted to become a member of the Senate and represent the people of his state in that role, Cruz said, “The reason I’m running for Senate: That’s where the real battle is.”

Further…

“Because if Ted Cruz really meant what he said, he must go down as possibly the greatest failure in the annals of United States Senate history, taking his home state of Texas down with him.” [3]

.

“The greatest failure in the annals of the United States history, taking his home state of TEXAS down with him.”

.

I am a proud TEXAN. No, right now I do not live in the great state of my birth… I awake each and every day knowing two things; I am in pain… and I am not HOME. Just because I am not there with you all… and that pains me more than I can put into words. Just because I am not there in Texas… does not mean I do not feel you pain. This man… this Senator Cruz has brought great shame to the state of my birth.

.

You see, as I said earlier, all Congressmen and Senators (Republican) knew  they would not be able to “Defund Obamacare…” from 2010. They knew, when they lost seats; in the House of Representatives and the Senate, that they could not keep their word… with you the voter.  However, they also knew… or at least were told… and lead to believe, that if they did not run on “Defunding Obamacare…” they would likely be primaried. This fear left them weakened and easily used and led.

.

[Just now, this minute the Senate has passed legislation (81-18) to END the shutdown and avoid default on our national debt. I am proud of the elder body of Congress.].

.

It is with great joy that I report that the government shutdown has ended and that the debt ceiling is raised.

.

Not today, but soon, I will write an article outlining my thoughts, many that I sahre with Warren Buffet, on the ‘Debt Ceiling’and how it is nothing more than a political device and nothing less than a fuse for an economic bomb equal to the atomic device dropped on Hiroshima. Not today, but soon.

.

Again, My Dear Readers, I do not write this article as a means of gloating. Nor do I write it as an insult to my fellow Texans, or any Republicans. I write this article as words of warning. Warning that, if Republicans do not move more to the center. If that if Republicans do not give up this govern by gun… this Govern by Disaster’? That soon, and for the rest of time, the Republican party will delegate itself to being (merely) a regional political party.

.

Republicans need to take heed of the fate of the Whig party of the late nineteenth century. If you have never heard, or read, about the Whig party and you are a Republican? You simply must take the time to Google the Whig party and objectively read of the fate of said party. The Democratic party was founded in 1792 and is the single oldest political party in America. For me, there is a good reason that the Democratic party has outlived the Whig party, and several others.

.

Again, I will not write about the end of the Whig party, today. Soon, My Dear Readers, but not today. Today I want to focus on the warning I have shared. You see, Senator Cruz’s actions have greatly weakened the Republican party. Right now, the Republican party’s poll numbers are upside down. That means that your negatives are higher than your positives. Worse still, recent CNN, Reuters’s, Gallup and PPP polling indicates that the Republican party has the single lowest Congressional approval rating in our nation’s history. That, if the election was today, Democrats would take control of the House Of Representatives by a historic margin.

.

Honestly, this does our nation… neither party… and the American people a grave disservice. The single fact that; a freshman Senator had more political pull, within his party, than the Republican Speaker of the House of Representatives is so very backwards that it has destabilized the balance of powers within on Congress. This is not just my opinion, this opinion is shared by; Senator John McCain and ex-Senator Bob Dole. This is not the way things work in a Republic. We are witness to a gravely destabilized Republic and it is reeking havoc on our economy and standing in the world. This cannot stand, this should not stand.

.

I appeal to my fellow Texas, and to all republicans reading these words. ‘Take back your party from the fringe.’ Take your vote seriously, and stop allowing the loudest and most angry voice to occupy space between your ears. We simply must become a nation of logic, knowledge and compromise again. The fate of our very Republic hangs in the balance. If, right now, you limit your news to just one network. Stop. Even I do not just listen to one network. Start listening to; P.B.S., B.B.C. and even ABC or CBS. I am not asking for Republicans to swtich over to MSNBC or NBC. That, I know, is a bridge too far.

.

However, I ask that you temper your input. Broaden your width of your news sources and the depth of their content. Lessen the rhetoric and increase the information. Challenge yourself by opening and broadening the avenues of information. Make yourself… force yourself to become an more informed… better informed citizen and voter. This will not be easy for many Americans. But, let me share a little knowledge tid-bit.

.

NBC has been broadcasting news for the past Seventy-Five years. ABC and CBS for the past Sixty-Five years. Fox news has only been reporting since 1996, only seventeen years. Why limit yourself to the single most junior news reporting agency in existence? Shouldn’t your source of news at least be as old as you are?

.

Americans must exercise greater/netter discretion (discretion is the better part of valor) when voting. Take more time to develop your own opinions, and less time merely parroting rhetoric from the; loudest, angriest and most simplistic source of news. Again, I am not writing this to insult anyone. I am not writing this out of any desire to gloat.. or harm. I do write these words out of a sense of journalistic responsibility. As well, I write it out of a sense of friendship. Please, take me at face value. Trust that I am writing this with love in my heart… and a deep desire to help and guide.

.

As always, I am deeply honored that you come here and read my work.

.

Thank YOU!

The American Civil War of 201_

The American Civil War of 201_

In 1860 there were, roughly, thirty-one million Americans in our great nation. Twenty-two million of them lived in the ‘Northern states’ and nine million lived in the ‘Southern-Confederate’ states. When the fighting finally ended in the far west and Texas, it took some time for the word to reach these places that the war was over. Over SIX HUNDRED TWENTY THOUSAND Americans had given their lives… for a LIE.

.

What was the lie? That freedom belonged to only some Americans. The lie was that the people of the North were any different from the Americans in the South. That African Americans deserved to be enslaved. The lie was the same as it is today.

.

“It’s divided our country in a way that we haven’t been divided probably since the Civil War…” Robert Kennedy Jr. [1]

.

Thirty-One million Americans reduced to thirty point four. There are now well over One Hundred times as many Americans today as there were in 1860. Therefore, and equivalent ‘War Between The States’ in the twenty-first century would more than decimate (to reduce by 1/10) our population.  SIX MILLION AMERICANS! One in every fifty Americans would die.

.

In the late hours of my campaign I was told that I could raise more money… if I “apologized to Texans…” for “throwing bombs… at Republicans…” I was offered the opportunity to garner assistance from well healed Texans if I apologized for throwing bombs and “offer and olive branch…”

.

An olive branch. Like?

.

“Please I AM SORRY IF I HAVE OFFENDED ANY TEXANS! I LOVE YOU GUYS! . I am beside myself in grief… I cannot write anymore… Please accept my apology. PLEASE?” (from ‘Dear Texans’)[2]

.

I tore myself up, inside. I exposed myself and pleaded for forgiveness. Irony? The irony was that after that article? My biggest donations came not from Texas, but from ENGLAND. I did my penance (voluntary self-punishment inflicted as an outward expression of repentance for having done wrong)[3]

.

I was not forgiven. The sixth Christian Tenet is:

And we solemnly promise to watch, and pray for that Mind to be in us which was also in Christ Jesus; to do unto others as we would have them do unto us; and to be merciful, just, and pure.”[4]

.

Yet, I was not offered forgiveness. Why? I publically flayed myself. Took responsibility for actions I was told I had engaged in and begged for forgiveness. It was not forthcoming… Why?

.

We live in a nation divided. Not by me. I have been told “you throw bombs…” Yet, when asked to show me the bombs I have thrown… the wrongs I have committed? (Everything I have EVER written is right here at The Other Shoe) DEAFENING SILENCE. Nobody can point to any single article… any passage of any article I have ever written where I have “thrown bombs” at Republicans or Conservatives. “Why?” You may well ask. Because it never happened. Want the truth? The truth is that I did write this:

.

“Texas is experiencing a hat-trick of changes. These three factors will not only impact Texas politics, from the Governorship to the State House, they will shift Texas from the deeply Conservative ‘Red’ of today. To a deeply purple, then ‘Blue’ like it was in my youth.”[5] (From my article ‘Texas is Turning Purple. Are you seeing this?’)

.

The entire article was based on United States census data from 2010 and 2012. It was based in FACT.  That article was the closest I have ever come to “throwing bombs…” at Texas or Texans… and I NEVER ONCE said anything ‘bad’ or ‘negative’ and every single fact was documented and referenced. For that I am shunned. For that I am allowed to fall… to become homeless by people with more money than they could spend in three lifetimes.

.

““It’s divided our country in a way that we haven’t been divided probably since the Civil War…”

.

SIX HUNDRED AND TWENTY THOUSAND DEAD AMERICANS.

.

“It got so bad… they stopped burying the dead and they piled up in the streets. Bloated bodies… picked over by carrion birds…”[6]

.

Yet, some Americans really want to repeat that sick national tragedy? If the Civil War were to happen today Six Million Americans would die. One in every fifty Americans would loose their life. All over one Presidency?

.

When do we begin to count the dead? If there is another ‘War Between the States’. When will historians begin the counting? Yesterday?Today? Tomorrow? Will me ending up homeless and dead, be counted?

See, I am free. I know that my condition will take my life. I had a neurosurgeon show the courage to tell me the truth about my spinal disease. One day… my spinal cord will be crushed by either a bone fragment or a errant disc propelled by gravity during a fall. This will result in me loosing the ability to breath. I will loose conscious, and die.  I know how I will die…. Do you?

.

Tuesday. Next Tuesday I will know if my caregiver and best friend of twenty-five years will be released in time to help me move. See, because if he is not released…. Because I was never forgiven? I will end up homeless and I will die on the streets of Orange County California. I know this. And I am at peace.

.

Will America continue to pull at the very stitches that were sewn in 1863 till they spill our national guts out for the entire world to witness? I do not know. I fear the worse for the nation I honor and love. I am not a ‘Southerner’. I AM an American! I happen to be born in the ‘South’. However, I never let that factor define WHO I am.  I am at peace.

.

If the worst happens… if Allen is not released on this coming Tuesday. I have little left. I will post two more articles. They are already written. These articles outline the years of abuse I have endured. These articles name the people who have abused and misused me. Nothing is left out. Nobody that has caused me harm is left out. All is told. Because? What will I have to loose? I am at peace.

.

I pray for you all. I pray that you find peace. I pray that our country puts aside all this anger and hatred. However, if history is to be our guide to the future? Our great nation will, once again, work to tear itself apart. While the world watches in horror.

.

Imagine the ‘Civil War’ with… Tanks… Jet Aircraft… Helicopter gunships… Automatic weapons… NUKES. As the world watches in horror. And, I am at peace.

.

“A House divided against itself… Cannot stand.” Abraham Lincoln June 16th 1858[7]

.

I could have been spared… Likely by someone that I played with as a child. Someone that watched me on stage at PHS. I could have been saved a humiliating death homeless on the streets of Orange County, California. If only I had asked for forgiveness?  Right?

.

I did. And I am at peace.

.

May God have mercy on US all.

.

Texas is Turning Purple? Are you Seeing This?

Every single month, two things happen, in this changing nation of ours. Factoid one; 237,540 Americans (Baby-Boomers) turn sixty each and every month.[1] Factoid two; every single (same) month, in America, 50,000 Latinos turn voting age (18). [2] These are facts! This is a shifting demographic that does not favor one party of our ‘two party’ system. It is a known and historic fact that; lower income individuals, African Americans (90+% voted Democrat in 2012 elections), the elderly, the poor and Latinos (78% in the last Presidential election) tend to vote Democrat.

.

Thanks, in so small part, to; Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Ann Coulter and Karl Rove the Republican party is been plagued with hyper-partisanship for the last ten years. This has resulted in; intransigence in the Congress (more so in our House of Representatives) and a Senate crippled by the over sue of the filibuster .A once rarely used parliamentary procedure, now turned Standard Operating Procedure by the hyper-partisan members of said body. Between 1917 and 1975 this device was used ‘rarely” and only took 2/3rd of the Senate to override. Today it takes 3/5th to override and, well as you can see by the graph below, this filibuster is being used more in one month then it was used in ten years before.

.

Filibuster trend

Filibuster trend

(Historic Graph of Senate Filibuster 1919-2010)

.

Now, let’s add! Number of Americans turning senior each month = 237,000 roughly (mostly Anglo-Americans) +  50,000 Latinos turning voting age  each month + a House of Representatives parked in intransigence by a (relatively) small number of Republicans in gerrymandered districts + a Senate chocked with (meaningless) filibusters  = a slow and painful death to the party of the far Right. The culprit behind the intransigent House of Representatives = hyper-partisanship.   The 112th Congress passed (only) 219 bills into laws. [F.Y.I. that is the ONLY job they have and laws = order in a universe that needs them] By contrast the last two Democratic controlled Congress passed 383 and 460![3] = Intransigence in Congress.

.

Now, to bring this puppy home. Texas has seen the largest growth in immigrant population second only to California.[4] As well, in Texas the largest shft in population is from rural to urban.[5] Americans that live in cities (major metropolitan areas) tend to; favor stricter gun laws, and vote Democratic. Texas is experiencing a hat-trick of changes. These three factors will not only impact Texas politics, from the Governorship to the State House, they will shift Texas from the deeply Conservative ‘Red’ of today. To a deeply purple, then Blue like it was in my youth. This is not opinion, this is far from conjecture, my friends it is in the cards it is inevitable.

.

This will, likely, not manifest by the 2014 off-year elections. However, it is my projection… my assertion, that by the Presidential Elections of 2016? Texas’ 34 electoral college votes will go to the Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton.

.

THAT outcome will set this country up for the longest single stretch of One Party controlling the White House since… F.D.R.! With Texas a ‘Blue’ state, the balance of power in the House of Representatives will shift, without a doubt, back to a Democratically controlled House. Texas’ move, to purple then Blue, will make a huge and unmistakable change in the governance of our nation. Wrapping up here, I have one more thing to say. “You can ‘Thank’ Governor Rick Perry for a lot of this shift. For six years he has been giving away $14 Billion dollars in tax rebates to companies who move (themselves and their employees) to Texas. Fourteen billion dollars buys a lot of Democrats from; California, and New York.

.

So, like the title of the article says, it is my firm assertion and opinion “Texas will turn purple (2014) then Blue (2016) and, at this point, there is nothing anyone can do.

.

Thank you for your time, thank you for the honor of having you read my work. And, finally, “Thank YOU!” For sharing and Liking my work. I am trying to move, before I am thrown out, by the new owners of my building. If you can… if you would please? Take a moment and click the box below… and help me move… maybe back home?
