A Week in Review – August 23rd, 2014

Danny in Rolling Hills Estates August 12, 2014

Danny in Rolling Hills Estates August 12, 2014

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. My Dear Readers this week has been a fabulously entertaining and busy week for The Other Shoe! With the publication of this weekly review I will have written and published TEN articles in one week! It is, currently, Saturday night at 8:20 PM PDT. Then articles and Ten dollar$ in donations at Danny’s Cancer Treatment Fund[1] @ Indiegogo equals = $1 for each article written and published. Just a bit of very depressing Danny-trivia.

.

Although I feel deep-seated depression over; my cancer, my increased pain, my lack of sleep, my lack of appetite, and how my limited financial resources condemn me to a short(end) lifespan. I would be a fool to not be proud at my; publication of ten articles in one week, the creation/design of an all new newsletter (for The Other Shoe), the design/creation of a business card for same, and the launch of Danny’s Cancer Treatment Fund[2] all in seven days. I would be hard pressed to think of another person I know that could accomplish all those tasks, in the same period of time, and make them all so unique and beautiful. I was looking over Part 14-A of ‘The Horror in Smithville’ and I was struck my the depth of the character I created, and just how he is to fit in with the story and characters. You will just have to wait, but trust me… Principal Marsch’s quirks are going to… play wonderfully… soon.

.

I am ever so tired. I have not allowed myself much sleep, this week. Even if I had allowed it, I doubt that I could have slept. I am beside myself with financial worries. Allen and I have just barely able to make ends meet… so far. However, with the addition of thirty dollars, or more, a week in transportation costs, more medications, and the loss of income by Allen having to take time off to get me to; PET scan, appointments, chemotherapy/radiation therapy. I just do not see how we will be able to continue to make ends meet.

.

I am doing my best, honestly, to keep the faith. Trust that the people who care about me, that value me… my friendship… my works… my contributions… will come to my aid. I have to… or I will loose the will to… live.

.

‘A Week in Review’ is a wonderful way for you, My Dear Readers, to catch up on all the wonderful stories and articles I have written and published over the week. Here, on the weekend, when you have some free time. Now, you can come here, to this article, and read, view and link to all the wonderful work I have provided. A very busy person, can, in a matter of hours read all the great works I have published. Therefore, now that I have set the mood and prepared you for the review. It is, without further adieu, I give you

‘A Week in Review’ for August 23rd, 2014.

.

  • IT’S ALIVE!!!! – “IT’S ALIVE!!! Rather…. It IS LIVE! Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe and a very special article! This article is to announce that my @Indiegogo campaign Danny’s Cancer Treatment Fund[1] IS NOW LIVE! With the (soon) addition of my most recently shot ‘Pitch Video’ (and this one is GREAT! I am very funny… and quite entertaining… if I say so myself…) this puppy is up and ready for your contributions!” What a wonderful way to start the week! As well, by starting the campaign on THIS DAY it ends on October 1st, 2014! Talk about impeccable timing! I had no idea, when I pressed publish on this article, that this act was to catapult me into the single most prolific week in more than a year! Little did I know that this article would be #1 of TEN! With the publication of this article I set in motion the effort to garner the support I NEED to FIGHT MY CANCER!
  • The Mars Report – August 18th 2014 – “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Today is Monday August 18th, 2014. It has been just eleven days since my world was turned upside down and I was told that I have Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer. I am still working my way through, like, the stages of ‘grief’ (?). I think that I am to the anger part. Anyway, regardless of my personal/health situation I am going to… “Keep Moving Forward” by writing and publishing as many of my regular articles as I can manage. That being the case, today is Monday and that means a trip to Mars!” I had really began to miss the publication of this article series. ‘The Mars Report’ IS one of my most favorite article series in all of The Other Shoe. Mars is mankind’s next target for manned exploration, and as such, we are destined to spend a lot of time exploring. Exploring, mapping and gaining a familiarity necessary for a safe and productive manned mission. Each and every week I get to share with you, and you get to enjoy, all the new; discoveries, images, and scientific experiments Curiosity and Opportunity have managed. I just love this article aeries, and I hope that you do to!
  • My Two Cents – “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Today I start on another new journey. As always, this will be a journey of adventure. An shared adventure between you, My Dear Readers, and me. ‘My Two Cents’ is an all new article series, that starts today with the publication of this article. Each week, that my health allows, I will come to you, My Dear Readers, and share ‘My Two Cents’ on; issues of the day, personal observations, current trends, foreign affairs, world news, and even (sometimes) political and geo-political issues.” This is the premier edition of an ‘all new’ article series. I have been searching for a way to publish an editorial article series without it being… too opinionated. The name ‘My Two Cents’ has helped me to establish an article series that does share my opinions without appearing as I am talking down to anyone. That was my primary goal, and I feel very confident I have met said goal. I look forward to many more weeks, to come, of this wonderfully entertaining article series. I hope that I write it so that you, My Dear Readers, do too!
  • BREAKING NEWS – Gov. Perry BOOKED in Travis County – “JUST IN – Austin, Texas: Republican Governor Rick Perry has just surrendered to authorities at the Travis County criminal justice center. Indicted for ‘Abuse of Power’ as Governor of the State of Texas, (R) Rick Perry was lead away, just moments ago, to booking at the criminal justice center in Austin, Texas. While dividing, along party lines, many in the Great State of Texas the reality of this situation is far fro ‘politically motivated’.” I published this article for one reason and one reason only! I saw that I could BEAT the major networks and media outlets, getting this news out, and I DID! I was not exervcising any political design or desire. I just wanted to be first in publishing ‘Breaking News’ for once!
  • Lost in Space – Solar System Tour – NEPTUNE – “However, I have to be honest about my limitations with my current diagnosis. As well, with the launch of Danny’s Cancer Treatment Fund at Indiegogo there have not been enough days in the week. Further, right now I am suffering with crushing depression because of the failure of my attempt to raise the money I need for (successfully) fight my cancer. With nearly 100 people ‘Sharing’ my campaign and only $10 raised I am beside myself with feelings of failure. I can only hope that this trend changes and… somehow… people understand that without their help I simply cannot fight this cancer within me.” This was the first time in several weeks, more like a month or more, that I was able to write and publish both ‘The Mars Report’ and ‘Lost in Space’ BOTH in the same week! Finally, there were enough new images from Mars and I had the will and good health to put together the next location in my ‘Toru of the Solar System’. I am not sure if I will be able to replicate this, next week, but I will try. I am quite proud of this edition and all the information and images of Neptune! This was an edition of ‘Lost in Space’ that brings me great pride.
  • The Other Shoe – NEWSLETTER! – “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. I am working doubly hard for your attention and support! I have, just now, finished the Very First EDITION of ‘The Other Shoe – NEWSLETTER!’ That’s right, I have just spent the past two days working to take last week’s work and put it into a newsletter for The Other Shoe. I am going to use this newsletter to; put in mailings, hand out in local malls and shopping centers, hand out to residents and any other place I might find to spread the word of my work. Allen has even offered to put some in bags, as he is working as a cashier, at a local department store. I just told him “BE CAREFUL!” I would hate for him to get into trouble at his job.” Right now Allen is at his job with this newsletter! I really hope he does not get in trouble handing it out. I have really wanted to put together this newsletter for the past… two years. It was just luck, and well placed stars that allowed me to finally put this together and get it published. I just LOVE designing and writing newsletters! I started back in middle school, in Pearland, and honed my skill in the mid to late 90’s at a complex I managed. Plazawoods apartments needed a weekly newsletter and the owner was willing to promise to pay me for my efforts. Even though he failed to ever PAY me for my efforts? For TWO YEARS I took great pride and had a LOT of FUN brining a weekly newsletter to my residents. Now, I can design, write and publish one for my blog! JOY!
  • The Horror in Smithville – Part 14-A – “Now, My Dear Readers, we are about to start with Part (Chapter or Episode) Fourteen! However, there is a trick with this chapter. A trick that has caused the delay in the publication of the next twenty to thirty pages of ‘The Horror in Smithville’. Part (or Chapter or Episode) Fourteen comes in FIVE PARTS! That’s right, one chapter in five parts. They will be designated 14; A, B, C, D, and E. Today we will start with Part 14A. Now, My Dear Readers, all of the five… sections of Part 14 ALL happen at the same time! That is correct! The next five weekly episodes of ‘The Horror in Smithville’ happen (in the story world) SIMULTANEOUSLY!” This was/is the MUCH anticipated return to the Main story line of this wonderful horror story. As well, this particular chapter/episode has been a particular challenge to me, as a writer and as a publisher. If you read the excerpt above then you understand that I am (with the publication of this chapter) launching FIVE different timelines all at once! In time all FIVE will collide with each other… and what a wonderful episode that will be. ‘Oh, what tangled webs we weave!”
  • The Other Shoe – BOTH Blogs – Traffic 2014 – “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Today is Friday so a big ‘TGiF’ to everyone out there reading this blog! Just yesterday I was rummaging around my blog, looking at this and that, trying to glean some information about What you, My Dear Readers, are reading and what I can add or replicate to improve my traffic. Well, the best place to start for that kind of information is… Traffic Reports!” I have not published one of these ‘Traffic Report’ articles in many many months. However, I was just looking over the traffic reports for the Word Press location and I was struck by my international penetration! My Dear Readers, I had not realized just how many of you were from nations all over this globe! That you ARE; French, English, German, Indian, and Australian, just to name a few! I was so surprised and PROUD that my work is read around the world, I just HAD to share it with all my readers here in America… and Texas! I NEVER thought that my WORDS would reach round the world. Now I KNOW that they HAVE!
  • Notes From Behind the Keyboard – August 23rd, 2014 – “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. With the publication of this article I exceed my greatest expectations for; writing, editing, and publication for a single week. In this week I have; written/edited/published eight articles for The Other Shoe, designed and published an ‘All NEW’ Newsletter for The Other Shoe, and designed and published All NEW business cards for The Other Shoe & Danny’s Cancer Treatment Find @ Indiegogo[1], Launched a funding campaign to raise the monies I need to battle my Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Cancer and spent 10-14 hours everyday online promoting the campaign and The Other Shoe. Right now, Allen is at work (at Kohl’s in Huntington Beach) as a cashier and he is handing out copies of the ‘ALL NEW’ newsletter & Business Card to any/all concerned customers.” What good is a newsletter handout without a business card attached? Not Very Good, that is what! That is why I spent most of last night and all of this morning designing and printing brand NEW business cards for The Other Shoe! They have information on; The Other Shoe, Danny’s Cancer Treatment Fund[3] at Indiegogo and ME! I really had a blast designing the business cards. Then when I put them together with the all-new newsletter? THEY MATCHED! I have no idea just how I managed to do it, but once I had the business cards stapled to the newsletter it was obvious to myself and Allen that the colors MATCHED! I was so very PROUD to send them out, today. That was what I wanted, too. I wanted to distribute a package of information on my funding campaign for treatment of my cancer. As well, I wanted to put something out into the community I currently reside about my blog and my work. Mission ACCOMPLISHED!

.

That concludes my review of the ten articles that I have written and published this week. With this article included, I have written and published ELEVEN articles! That is something to me proud of, if I say so myself! My Dear Readers, that is just my work on this blog!

.

Along with the ELEVEN articles? O have; designed, written mission statement, shoot/edited/improved THREE videos for the campaign, designed and wrote an all new newsletter, and designed and printed business cards! I have not been this busy since my Power Chair Campaign! I am proud… although… My Dear Readers?

.

It does make me extremely depressed to think of all the work I have accomplished… just for ten dollars. L I will keep writing, and publishing and begging for YOUR help! I simply cannot stop! To stop fighting? Would to be signal that I am ready to die, without a fight. I do not want this canacer to beat me so early in this battle. However, without money I am fighting a tank with fingernail clippers.

.

My Dear Readers, this brings us to the end of this Week in Review! I hope that you have enjoyed this review, and I also hope that you have enjoyed this weeks’ work. I look forward to the coming week, and the coming articles and stories. Finally…

‘The Horror in Smithville’ – The Story, So Far…

The Horror in Smithville

The Horror in Smithville

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Today, Wednesday July 30th 2014, I am going to write and publish this review of my most favorite work (right now); ‘The Horror in Smithville’! You see, my head is still just not in to my usual course of writing. I have checked out the ‘new’ images from Curiosity on Mars, and there is only a couple, right now. So, even if I was ‘of the mind’ to write and publish a new edition of ‘The Mars Report’ there is just not enough new material to make up a new edition.

.

Now, I know that there are still…. ‘weak points’ in the first ten or twelve episodes of this story. I have yet to have the time, or focus, to look back and make the simple corrections that are needed. However, I have (recently) gone back and read some of the earlier episodes. All I can say, My Dear Readers? I do truly enjoy my writing! Honestly, every time I go back and read some of my creative works I always find that I enjoy reading what I write     .

.

That is not all that common, among modern day writers. Hemmingway really enjoyed reading his work. He equated reading, and re-re-re-reading, his own works to honing the blade on a sword. That each, and every, time he went back and read something he wrote he would find ways to improve his work. I know that there are a lot of corrections that I need to make to the first thirteen episodes.

.

There are; typos, grammatical errors, and even some truly jumbled words and sentences in the earlier episodes. Most readers can get through these errors and still enjoy the work that I have written. Yes, I do get messages and emails from people going on and on about “you really need to ‘fix’ your story…” “I just couldn’t get past this error…”. Everyone is a critic! Well, everyone can be a critic, and I am very happy that most of you, MY Dear Readers, enjoy my writing, my stories, and my publications just as they are.

.

Today, I am publishing this review of the first thirteen episodes of ‘The Horror in Smithville’ so that you can all get caught-up on this wonderfully entertaining tale of horror and suspense. For the past two weeks I have taken you, My Dear Readers, on a bit of a side-trip. What I have labeled, as ‘The Missing Chapters’ is a cleaver way for me to interject some very important material, and add a whole other plot line and character development.

.

As well, My Dear Readers, I am experimenting with literary techniques and learning from the results. What I have learned, over the past two weeks? That readers really enjoy ‘new’ and ‘different’ techniques and experimentation, when it comes to their reading. Trying new things… experimenting with writing techniques and taking readers for an adventure are things that (most) readers find enjoyable and challenging. Therefore, you My Dear Readers can expect that I will be pushing the limits, taking chances, and engaging in all sorts of experimentation and toying with my work on a regular basis.

.

So, now without further adieu… I give you this review of ‘The Horror in Smithville’!

.

The Horror in Smithville

The Horror in Smithville

  • The Horror in Smithville : “Timmy Marref lived on a farm outside Smithville. Smithville was a little town smack dab in the middle of America. Timmy’s father, Kenneth Marref, worked the family farm. As his father did before him, and his grandfather did before that, and his great-grandfather did before him. From what Timmy could gather the Marref’s had worked this land for more than 100 years. Timmy didn’t mind living on a farm. As a matter of fact, more times than not Timmy just downright loved living on the farm.” THIS is how the whole story started. It was March 6th, 2014 and I was thinking on “what NEW can I bring to The Other Shoe’?” I am always thinking of how to improve the blog, what more series or articles can I bring to you, My Dear Readers, that will bring smiles to your faces and joy to you souls. I, at this point, had written articles about world news, Mars, the Hubble Space telescope, financial inequality, and even some politics here and there. What, pray tell, could I cook up in my little head that might tickle your collective fancy? Then, it hit me, like a ton of bricks coming at my head. The idea of a lifetime landed in my lap. ‘A Horror story meant for young adults! The great thing was, if I wrote it well then adults as well as young people, will enjoy reading the story. That was how it all began, back in March. :0
  • The Horror in Smithville – Part Two : “Now Timmy’s Mom weren’t no fool, nor was she born yesterday. Margaret knew Timmy had just been on the phone, for the past half hour, with his best Archer. Margie also knew, and she loved her son Timmy for this, that he was mighty accustom to hug her at any given time. However, Timmy creeping up on her to put his arm around her waist and hug her while she’s frying chicken? That was a sure fire sign that Timmy wanted something, and he wanted it something mighty strong. This made Margie smile ear to ear. She could hardly wait to hear the yarn her son was about to spin. Just in the nick of time though Margie bit her upper lip to make herself stop smiling, right as Timmy looked up into her face with those doleful hazel eyes.” Well, I have said it before, and I will (likely) say it again and again. At this point, the story was nearly writing itself! The characters had come to life, and each and every time I closed my eyes and thought about; Timmy and Archer they began to perform and act right before my eyes. I had the easiest job in the world, all I had to do was watch and write down what they did each day. Even this early in the story the characters of Timmy and Archer had started to leap off the pages of the story. ‘Character Development’ was as easy as letting the boys speak! The plot was a simple one… two young men out for an adventure at Halloween. BAM! It wasn’t until two or three weeks later that ‘The Tall Man’ came to life and the story started developing a ‘Darker’ side.
  • The Horror in Smithville – Part Three : “Just as Archer had anticipated, when dinner was served there was; deep fried chicken (at least one chicken if not two), mashed potatoes with a pad of butter still melting on the top of the potato mountain, what looked to be buttermilk biscuits, a gravy bowl filled to the brim with hot and fresh (made from scratch) chicken gravy, and both green peas and corn on the cob. Archer was drooling with anticipation, but before lifting a single eating utensil he gave Timmy’s Mom her much deserved praise.“Everything looks just great, Mrs. Marref! I don’t know which is better, how good it all smells or how great it looks on the table!” This was about the time that the ‘sleep-over’ idea was flowering in my head. The idea of having ‘his’ first appearance not happen during the fateful ride on the Haunted House. How to build the suspense for the ride, how to incorporate character development with a three day long sleep-over. It was in parts two and three that I truly developed the ‘Home Spun’ feel of the story. How I was to take two rual young men, and throw them out of their world of feeding chickens and milking cows and hurl them head long into a world with ‘zombie-wolves’ and the undead. It was, also, about this time that I feel in LOVE with this story and its potential. What was meant to be a really short story, lasting no more than a month, now had the potential to run for several months. Timmy and Archer had found a way into my heart.
  • The Horror in Smithville – Part Four : “Lightening filled the room with brilliance that shown like daytime. The room was plunged into darkness, followed by the low rumblings of thunder. The time between the two events, the lightening and the thunder was decreasing. Timmy knew that meant the heart of the storm was yet to arrive. Another flash of lightening, it filled the room. Geeze, it was so bright you could read your math homework with it. It was followed by deepening darkness, then the low rumble of thunder. All the time the sound of the rain, pounding on the back porch and the barn, grew louder and louder. This was going to be a heck of a storm!” To this day I am still unsure just where the lightening storm came from in this story. No where, in the first month’s notes, did I even mention a lightening storm. However, once I wrote it down… once I worked it into the story… and once ‘The Tall Man’ appeared with the storm… well there was no turning back and it felt as natural as a spring rain. You see, My Dear Readers, it was as if; the Carnival, the Haunter House Ride and ‘The Tall Man’ ALL ‘blew into town together’! See how it all just fits? Honest to goodness I am not fibbing when I tell you that it was not originally thought up tied together, it must have just happened one night when the pain robbed me of sleep. Now, looking back? Well, I just cannot see it working any other way. THAT is what makes my job…. A JOY!
  • The Horror in Smithville – Part Five : “Standing there, Timmy felt a cool breeze passing under the door. Now, he knew that he and Archer had kept the window in his bedroom closed. As hard as it was raining, outside, an open window would have drenched the bed and sleeping bag. He leaned over to the right, slightly, looking at the space between the bottom of the door and the sill below. Sure enough, there was a light on in the room. It was lighter that what his ‘Adventures of Princess Nadia’ nightlight created, too. Timmy screwed up his courage, wrapped his hand around the doorknob, and turned the knob.” ANOTHER great ‘Behind the Scenes’ story relates to the creation of this, Part Five. You see, Part Five NEVER EXISTED! When I wrote part four, then looked back over it getting ready to write (what is now Part Six)… well, I just did not like how it ended, Part Four. Something was missing. I gave it a great deal of thought… then it hit me! In ending Part Four, the way I did, I have deprived myself of a Grand Entrance for ‘The Tall Man’! Once I experienced that inspiration, well there was no ‘going back’. I simply had to re-write Part Four, and have it segway right into THIS Part Five. Part Five exists solely for the purpose of the introduction of ‘The Tall Man’ to his Protagonist = Timmy. It was all falling into place, just like a prefect shuffle in cards, each person (card) was stacking right on top of the other person (card) to form a ‘dove-tail’ of characters. My Dear Readers, this was not ‘planned’… this just happened to me, and I can never express just how happy I am that it… did!
  • The Horror in Smithville – Part SIX : “And we are not talking about a really nice graveyard, eight. This graveyard looked to be from long long ago. The headstones were mostly broken, the names of the dearly beloved long ago forgotten to time. Gnarled trees, leaning half out of the ground, were the only remaining landscaping. Above, the moon hung full in the sky while a deep rolling fog moved over the ground.. It just then that Timmy felt the first deep chill, it was very cold and damp outside.” This, My Dear Readers, THIS is when it all started coming together. In THIS chapter… the MAGIC started happening. Let me explain a little. First, in part six I started interweaving the boy’s reality with their dream world! Things, and people, from one part of their lives began showing up in the other part of their lives! This gave me all sorts of creative opportunities. NEXT? Next the boys were taken to a different dream world! More than one ‘dream world’ freed me up, as a writer, and gave me the opportunity to begin interweaving their “Dream Worlds’! This was a huge gift to me, as a writer… but the best I saved for LAST. In Part Six… I did something that reached off the page! Now, My Dear Readers, if you are a frequent readers then you have (no doubt) hear about my most favorite… my PRIZED novel; ‘The Adventures of Princess Nadia’ book ONE to be ‘The Healing Light’. I have written about this upcoming work for the better part of the past FOUR years. In Part Six, I managed to create a ‘Trademark’ writing dynamic exclusive to Daniel Hanning. IN part Six… I brought Princess Nadia and Alexander into the ‘dream world’ of Timmy and Archer! That’s RIGHT My Dear Readers, it will be a trademark of my writing style that MY characters Cross Over into other literary works of mine! Never before have I read of this being done by another writer. Not only that, but it is not just a chance encounter! That’s RIGHT Princess Nadia and Alexander will have full roles in ‘The Horror in Smithville’ and Timmy and Archer WILL APPEAR in ‘The Adventures of Princess Nadia’! My Dear Readers, when I made this happen on the page… and it WORKED! I was just THRILLED at the possibilities! I am not going to give any spoilers… but this is going to happen… and BIG!
  • The Horror in Smithville – Part Seven : “Timmy had directed Archer to climb to the highest branch of the old gnarled tree he could manage. There he would do his best to; bleed, slow down and/or maim as many of these zombie-wolves as possible. You see, that is a common misnomer about archers, and archery, among the larger populous. Archers rarely ‘kill’ someone with an arrow to the heart. Archers are best to bleed your opponents, causing them to slow and reducing strength. Timmy had explained all this, to Archer, as they climbed the gnarled tree.” My Dear Readers, at FOURTEEN PAGES in Word, this Part, Part Seven, is the single LARGEST of all the parts so far. In it I tie together all the new tools, tricks, characters, and ‘trademarks’. I interweave just about every aspect of this story, and this story begins getting dark. By becoming dark the story firmly plants itself into the Horror genre and leaves no doubt to the readers. This is a horror story, and one of a different and terribly original style and feel. This final part, for the first ¼ of the book, sums up Timmy and Archer’s experience in their ‘Dream World’, so far. Now, not only are characters from different IPs showing up in other intellectual properties? Events, and people, from reality are showing up in Dream World (OTHER THAN Timmy and Archer), events are carrying over from one reality to another. Now, I really do not want to tip my hand… I REALLY want you to READ THIS STORY… if you haven’t already… and (here is the REAL problem with reviews) I want to do this without giving away any of the surprises and without diminishing the suspense. However, weighing in at 14 pages THIS part of the story… is monumental! That is why I am taking my time working on, out, Part EIGHT! I do plan on its release TOMORROW… May 8th, 2014. Barring any totally unforeseen circumstances… like the A/C going out completely… I WILL PUBLISH ‘part Eight’ Thursday may 8th, 2014.
  • The Horror in Smithville – Part EIGHT: “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Just as promised, I have worked through the night, and most of this morning, to make sure I was able to publish the much anticipated (and slightly tardy) Part EIGHT – ‘The Horror in Smithville’! You know, My Dear Readers, I am really glad that I didn’t promise any particular; plot twists, character changes, plot lines or story lines prior to writing.” Here it IS!! After many readers having waited another week, just to read this episode, here is the much anticipated PART EIGHT of The Horror in Smithville’!!! I am not sharing any spoilers, here today… so if you want to know “what happens”? You will just have to take a few moments and read this great episode, yourself! ENJOY!
  • The Horror in Smithville – Part Nine : “Timmy was pale, in color, in his face and arms. Almost like he had been drained of blood. Archer pulled Timmy’s jacket up around his face and over his ears. As Archer’s hands passed Timmy’s face, he felt heat radiating from Timmy’s face. Jeeze! Archer had never felt a fever that hot before in his life. Timmy had to have a fever well over 100 degrees, and he was standing in a foot of snow by the edge of the road. The more Archer thought about it, the more he realized that taking Timmy to school in his current condition was not the best idea.” In this, the ninth episode of the series, we find Archer struggling to get Timmy to school. Honestly, going to school had to have been the single worst idea of young Archer’s life. Yet, if they had stayed at home… well, Timmy’s illness would have been readily apparent and that would lead to too many questions. This way, Archer thought, was the best way to avoid his parents finding out… Finding out that their young son, Timmy Marref, had fallen prey to a bite from a zombie wolf. Archer thought avoiding that confrontation, at any cost, was the best choice. Archer did not know of anyone, at school that would be able to help Timmy, yet something inside him pushed him forward. Little did Archer know that help was there, at the school, just waiting to lend a helping hand.
  • The Horror in Smithville – Part TEN: “The final bell for homeroom rang just as Timmy and Archer had sat down in their seats. Timmy really didn’t feel like sitting quietly for the next hour. Actually, he had so much energy he felt like going out and running or playing in the snow. Timmy was daydreaming about just that when he heard his name called out, Ms. Steward was calling roll.” Archer had made good on his promise to Timmy, they were at school, and no one was the wiser. However, it was becoming increasingly more difficult for Archer to hide Timmy’s condition… and more difficult moving Timmy from place to place. Timmy needed help and Archer had no idea where to turn. IN this episode we follow the boys through two classes at school… and an surprise announcement! Time is running short for Timmy. Will Archer find the help that Timmy so desperately needs? Will our duo be ‘found out’, or will help arrive from a very unexpected source? All this, and more, awaits you in this, the TENTH episode of ‘The Horror in Smithville’!
  • The Horror in Smithville – Part ELEVEN! : “Mr. Champion snapping his fingers, right in front of his face, brought Archer back to this world and struggle at hand. For the past several hours all, in the world, Archer wanted was someone to help Timmy. Help Timmy survive the bite from the zombie wolves, and get back to his old self. Now, it appeared that help had arrived in the form of the substitute teacher for Mr. Albright. The Mr. Albright that, just last night, he and Timmy had watched as ‘The Tall Man’ and pulled his head from his shoulders, his spine from his body, and then drank his blood like a ice cold Coke.”There’s nothing like a nice cold ‘Coke’, eh? In this episode Archer, finally, gets the help he needs with Timmy. None, too soon, either! Timmy was fading in and out of consciousness, his left hand as big as a catcher’s mitt, a fever that radiated off his body like a furnace, and a terrible sweat that caused pools of hot water wherever they boys went. But, what is it with this Mr. Champion… ‘David’ as he says he wants to be called. Where did he come from? How did he know that Timmy was in trouble? How did he open a locked science classroom door… without so much as touching the door? How does one start a flame on a Bunsen burner with NO source of heat or flame? Stay tuned, My Dear Readers, with the coming episodes all will be told, all will become clear!
  • The Horror in Smithville – Part TWELVE! : “The adventures of Timmy and Archer are as real, and come from my own personal experiences, as any thing I have ever written. There are moments, several of them, which you will be reading today that were literally taken out of my memories as a young man. As an extra special treat, for everyone out there from Pearland Texas, (and everyone that has known me and my scholastic life) there is a very special ‘Guest Appearance’ in today’s episode by someone we all dearly loved.” In this episode of ‘The Horror in Smithville’ Timmy and Archer jump out of the pan and directly into the fire! Barry has, finally, caught up with our intrepid heroes and he has blood on his mind! Barry has clotheslined Timmy and is sitting on his chest! Archer, frozen by fear cannot manage to respond or think of just how to help is fallen friend. What will come? Only way to find out? READ the upcoming episode of ‘The Horror in Smithville’ right here at ‘The Other Shoe’!
  • The Horror in Smithville – Part Thirteen : “If you find this episode too disturbing, too violent, too bloody or what-not? Then, what is to come will, most certainly, curl your blood. While writing this (prose? Did you hear this episode? Could you feel the beat under the words?), I got a glimpse of many of the chapters to come. This. My first venture into the genre of horror, is going to be far more horrific than I first imagined.” Well… THERE is a ‘spoiler’ if ever I saw one! I am not going to say too much about this episode, because I do not want to give anything away. Just one thing… don’t read this on a full stomach. K?

.

.

And THAT My Dear Readers is ‘The Story So Far…’! I know that it is pretty… well, cruel to have left the ‘main story line’ where I did. With Timmy a bloody mess from his beating at the hands of Barry Gartuska, his bloody body in Archer’s lap. I know that there are a great many readers that really want me to get back to the main story line, and Timmy and Archer. I will! I promise you, My Dear Readers, that just as soon as… well, all this ‘plot points’, ‘character development’, and stuff gets put to bed I will return to Timmy and Archer.

.

Those two boys have so many more adventures, ahead of them. Ooopppsss! That was a ‘spoiler’ and I deeply apologize for letting that out. Suffice to say that, within the next two weeks, we all, My Dear Readers, will be getting back to the main story line and the events and adventures that initially captured your attention. Can I be completely honest with you, My Dear Readers?

.

I am getting a kick out of writing, and publishing, this story. When I first imagined this story, first started writing down notes and developing the characters? I never (in a million years) imagined; how well received, the incredible traffic, the incredible success that this story (and Timmy and Archer) has received. I am very proud of the following, the ‘Likes’ and the ‘Shares’. I will not let you, My Dear Readers, down! This story is just getting started!

.

Now, I am really in a lot of pain. I had not planned on writing or publishing, today. I just could not ‘stay away’! Thank you all for; your time, your support, your ‘Likes’ and ‘Shares’ and… most of all, Thank you for being My Dear Readers!

.

Adieu!

.

Thank YOU!

A Week in Review – 500th Articles A Week’s Celebration!

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. For the past two days I have been completely waylaid by pain and fevers. All day Saturday and Sunday I was completely unable to; get out of bed, raise my hands or arms, eat or pretty much anything. Today, I am feeling less pain, but I am still without the strength to do anything. However, I see that my blog traffic is down to TEN PEOPLE! My heart weeps, seriously. I am fairly upset that my pride and joy has fallen this far… and there is little I can actually do to change this.

.

So I decided to write an edition of ‘A Week in Review’ to cover the week of celebratory articles for the publication of my FIVE HUNDREDTH ARTICLE! Yeah, I am very proud to have reached this milestone in publication. I do not know of many other people that have written and published over five hundred articles… much les in just four short years. IT was my pride that pushed me to write so very much last week. I am pretty certain that the push to publish is the reason for my woes.

.

Honestly? IF I thought I could take a week… rest? I would! I really need some time off. However, each and every time I take even two days off… my blog’s traffic tumbles and suffers. My little personal hell. Anyways, here is a review of the week of review articles!

.

  • FIVE HUNDRED ARTICLES a Review & Celebration! #1 Redux : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. It is my sincere hope that everyone had a very safe and fun July 4th weekend! This is the very heart of our ‘American Summer’ season, and one of the favorites for American children all over our great nation. I remember sitting atop the Herman Professional Building, right across the street from the Herman Zoo and Herman Park watching the 4th fireworks while sitting in an air-conditioned office. Sitting and eating orange slices with my face (nearly) plastered to the doctor’s office window. What a great way to start a summer vacation!” This was the second time I published this article. NEITHER time did I realize that I misspelled the word ‘Review’ in both! One would think that somebody that reads my blog… and cares would have told me I made this mistake. Yeah… I am REALLY depressed… and it is only getting worse. Here is the first of the five articles I wrote to (try to) celebrate the publication of my 500th article here at The Other Shoe. This review is of the wondrous article series ‘Lost In Space’! For the past year this article series has shared incredible images from the Hubble Space Telescope (and other sources) that have literally taken the breath away form hundreds of readers. Quickly ‘Lost In Space’ has driven large amounts of traffic to this blog. Wonder and spectacle are the hallmarks of this series. I hope to continue publishing this wonderful series of articles… just as soon as I am feeling better.
  • FIVE HUNDRED Articles – #2 – The Mars Report : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Today is a continuation of the celebration of the publication (lots o’ations… there) of my Five Hundredth Article here at The Other Shoe. Yesterday we celebrated this auspicious occasion with a review of ‘Lost In Space’! With less than one year in publication, this article series enjoys a large following and handsome traffic numbers. I greatly increased its readership and traffic numbers, two weeks ago, by starting the ‘Tour of Our Solar System’ mini-series.” This is the second article of this celebratory series of articles, showcasing the terribly popular article series ‘The Mars Report’! My Dear Readers, “The Mars Report’ is the single most popular science based article series ever, for this blog. Over the past two years this single article series has driven thousands of readers to this blog. Combining cutting edge science with incredible and breathtaking images from Mars, this article series is one of the linchpins of my blog(s) and written works. Each week I publish this article it beings me tremendous pride and joy to thousands of readers.
  • FIVE HUNDRED Articles – Part Three – MMORPGs And YOU! : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Here we are, My Dear Readers, well into our ‘Celebration and Review’ in honor of the publication of my Five Hundredth Article here at The Other Shoe. I really feel that I am hitting my stride, with this series. Especially since, yesterday, I spent most of the day; with my head in one imaging tube or another, getting off or on various and sundry mass transit and getting any number of steel needles plunged into the veins in both arms. There is a very good reason I avoid; doctors, hospitals and all medical facilities. Seems once they have me in their grasp… they just do not want to let me go!” Now, My Dear Readers, we come to the crux of my writing and my love! I just love playing GAMES! Right now MMORPGs are my favorite genre of game to play. I am very fortunate that I still have a working ‘Gaming PC’, as this affords me the opportunity to play these wonderful games. Just recently I was given a present… the newest MMORPG – ‘Elder Scrolls Online’! I have been playing the game and this week I am going to make w few In-Game Videos to share right here with you! I am putting together the videos and some ingame screenshots so that I can share with you, My Dear Readers, the wonder that is this new game. This (the THIRD) review article is all about the wonderful article series ‘MMORPGs and YOU!’.
  • FIVE HUNDRED ARTICLES – Part Four – Politics and Editorial(s) : “Nothing highlights this more than two occasions when words I wrote found voice on a nationally viewed political news show. Most Americans will live out their entire lives without once their words reaching beyond the limits of their personal world. A handful, even a smaller group than previously mentioned, will have the honor and privilege to hear words they wrote spoken on a national broadcast television show. On July 31st, 2011 I (Daniel Hanning) joined that small and vocal group of Americans.” TWICE, in my short life, I have had the great honor to hear MY WORDS SPOKEN on national television. This article is a celebration and review of the articles I wrote to celebrate the occasion of my words on national television. Just check out this article and it will tell you all about my moments of pride.
  • FIVE HUNDRED ARTICLES – Part FIVE – The Horror in Smithville : “Now, My Dear Readers, I have always wanted to pen horror. Since a boy, reading horror stories late at night under the covers of my bed, desperate to not have my mother find out just what I was reading. I have yearned to write and publish a work of the horror genre. Today, I can cross that off my ‘Bucket List’! Not only have I wrote and published a work of horror… if I may say so myself… I have delved deep into the dark and murky waters of horror itself.” Horror! In all the years I have written, I have always wanted to write horror. Long have I longed for the challenge that is writing in the genre of horror. Now… I have! This article series is the most recent addition to my blog. The most recent and the most talked about, by far! In the coming weeks, and months, Timmy and Archer will take us on a journey to other worlds, other places, and bear witness to great suffering and horror. We last left, our intrepid heroes, Timmy lay unconscious in Archer’s lap. We left the story with Timmy’s father driving (rather recklessly, I might add) the trio (Timmy, Archer and Timmy’s Dad) to the Smithville County Hospital. Timmy had been (what appears as) severely beaten by the ‘school bully’ (I have often wondered… WHY? In our modern society… with school shootings and incredible scholastic standards putting tremendous pressure son children… WHY is it that we still allow ‘School Bulllies’? Certainly we can eradicate them via incarcerartion of violent offenders in ALL grades… RIGHT? Why don’t we DO that and be RID of them? ). This week… if I am feeling up to it… I will publish the next installment of this wonderful horror serial. I, really have about twenty pages already written… It is just a matter of proofing the pages, uploading and publishing. I am hoping that I feel ‘up’ to that task, later this week.

.

That, My Dear Readers, brings us to the end of this week’s review… and brings us to the end of the ‘FIVE HUNDREDTH Article a Celebration and Review’. Over the past week I have worked, very had, to present an overview of the past five hundred articles, and four years, here at ‘The Other Shoe’. I have worked, every single week… through much pain and suffering, to bring the very best I have to offer. I do not have ‘a staff’… writers… assistants… publishers… an editor. Each and every week what you see is what I have managed to write, edit and publish… solo!

.

Many weeks, like last week, I work through great waves of pain. My Dear Readers, I am not just so sure that I can continue. I just love writing… and I just love ‘seeing’ the traffic numbers… the ‘Visit Counter’ (on the blog) goes from 10… to 20… to 30… to 50! Yes, when it (and it does) hit FIFTY! I am so very deeply moved! Moved that fifty people, every week, are dropping by and READING MY WORK!

.

So, I am sure you understand how… when, this week, I see the counter at ten. I am deeply depressed and heart broken. To expend so much effort… to endure so much pain and see my traffic fall? It just breaks my heart. I know that the blog’s web master… the server are having “problems”. I see that I cannot, or have real problems publishing… Still… it hurts.

.

I am going to get some rest, later today. Rest and consider… if I am to continue… I want to go on and write and publish… another Five Hundred articles. I want to write for another four to five years. AM I a ‘terrible person’ for wanting… longing for… needing… recognition? That is all I have ever asked… that is all I have ever desired.

.

I hope that everyone has enjoyed this ‘Look Back’ at the past Five Hundred Articles here at ‘The Other Shoe’.

.

Adieu!

.

Thank YOU!

A Week in Review – June 28th, 2014

.

Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. If it is Saturday, then it is time for ‘A Week in Review’! I am proud to announce that with the publication of this article, I have reached the lofty goal of, publishing eight articles in the past seven days! It is not only the number of articles, MY Dear Readers, but this week I published the single most; intense, violent, suspenseful and horrific episodes of ‘The Horror in Smithville’… ever!

.

Now, I know that some of you have been hesitant to read this episode. Fear not, it is not as frightful as I portray. Yes, I am hyping this episode. It is just that this episode is some of the best writing I have ever published. For those that have hesitated? Please, take a moment and give it a read. You will not regret it!

.

Now, My Dear Readers, without further adieu I give you ‘A Week in Review’!

.

  • Sunday Funnies – June 22nd, 2014 : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. As well, this is a little ‘Welcome Back’ of/to ‘Sunday Funnies’! It has been several weeks since I last published this weekend treasure. In an effort to return normalcy and some regularity to my blog, I return with a short video if Prince Alexander.” I just love Prince Alexander! In this week’s ‘Sunday Funnies’ we catch Prince Alexander getting his weekly Sunday bath! He just loves playing in the water, running around and getting all clean for the upcoming week! Just to help him to relax, and enjoy his bath, I put Epsom salt in the bath water. It leaves his coat very smooth and soft. If you have a small pet, you might want to try this tip, too!
  • The Mars Report – June 23rd, 2014 : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Today, I welcome you to the single shortest edition of The Mars Report, EVER! I am not too sure just what is going on, with the rover Curiosity but NASA/JPL have not posted any kind of update in the past six days! The very last Twitter update, from Curiosity on Mars, was back on June 17th, 2014. I keep going back, to the NASA/JPL Mars Science Laboratory web site, and all they have posted are ‘RAW Images’.” Well, My Dear Readers, the NASA/JPL web site was quite bereft of ‘new’ images from Curiosity. So, Danny not to be detoured, I started rummaging through the vast stores of ‘RAW’images. That is where I found the images for this edition of ‘The Mars Report’. Readers? If y9ou want to know just what these images are? You will just have to click on the link at the beginning of this review! ENJOY!
  • Lost in Space – Tour of Our Solar System #3 : “We leave the orbit of the planet of our birth, to pull our Ship of the Stars into orbit of our nearest planet. Now, as many of you, My Dear Readers, know we visit this planet every single week. We visit with my series of articles names ‘The Mars Report’. Just click on the link, behind you, and check out the latest edition of this wonderful series. Now, we leave the orbit of Mars, headed for our next solar destination. However, to get to our next destination of Jupiter we must pass through the ‘Asteroid Belt’!” My Dear Readers, this is a very special of ‘Lost In Space’! Instead of spending the next several editions on; Earth… Mars… I have decided to take our ‘Ship of the Stars’ to the furthest edge of our solar system. YES! My Dear Readers, there is a LOT to share at the very edge of our solar system! Want to know… what? Click on the link at the beginning of this article and take a journey of imagination!
  • News from Around the World – June 25th, 2014 : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. First, I would like to take a moment and say ‘Thank You!” to everyone that enjoyed yesterday’s gargantuan article ‘Lost in Space – Tour of Our Solar System #3’ which, at last count, had nearly 20 ‘Likes’ already! I really poured my best into that article, hoped for the best and you My Dear Readers appreciated my efforts. For next week’s edition I will be writing about the ‘Dwarf Planets’ that exist at the very edge of the Kuiper Belt. Now back to today’s article and some startling news out of Iraq!” My Dear Readers, I cannot tell you just exactly how happy I am that this series of articles have found there success! Each and every week I scour through the week’s news and find articles that many have missed! I take these ‘missing’ articles and bring them to you, My Dear Readers. If you haven’t? Take a moment and read! ENJOY!
  • Notes from Behind the Keyboard – Editorial : “The last couple of news cycles have been bloated with hype that Speaker Boehner is going to “Sue President Obama”. Sue our sitting President over, allegedly, his “misuse of power via ‘Executive Orders’”. OK… hang on… give me a minute to stop laughing. There, that’s better. OK…Seriously? Speaker of the House of Representatives is so ‘free’ of other obligations… The House of Representatives have so much ‘free time’… They have ‘finished their homework’? Oh… MERCY! I do take exception to that assertion. Let us review…” My Dear Readers, this is a rarity, for me. It is not often, anymore, that I share my opinion on news and politics. I know… some people are upset by my views. That makes me sad! My views are my own. My Dear Readers, I read a lot… and research… and read some more. Then, I sit down and.. think. Alone! Alone, with my thoughts, is where I make my decisions on what I think band how I feel. That is what I share, here, for you. Enjoy!
  • I Believe in America : “Welcome back My Dear Readers to The Other Shoe. Earlier, today, I penned an Editorial. In the, nearly, five years of publication here at The Other Shoe I have rarely published an Editorial. I wrote and published this editorial for one reason, and one reason only. I am concerned about my country. Concerned about our ‘National Political Dialogue’. As the title of this article indicates;…” Watch… and ENJOY!
  • The Horror in Smithville – Part Thirteen : Many of the teachers had moved to the very front of the crowd, almost like they had initially felt a responsibility to act. Only to, either, be transfixed by their fear of what they bore witness. Some, halted in their advance to help by their own gnawing fear that Barry night well do the same to them, too. Either way, nobody was moving stop Barry or come to Timmy’s rescue. There must have been more than thirty; teachers, students and bus drivers all gathered just a few scant feet away from Timmy’s, now, deformed head.” That came directly out of the story. If you want to read more? Click the link and READ! ENJOY!

.

With that, My Dear Readers, we come to the end of this week’s review. This has been a very exciting week, here at The Other Shoe’. I have written and published a record number of articles, we have ventured to the very edge of our solar system, and we (together) have taken a step into a truly horrific turn of events in ‘The Horror in Smithville’.

.

Will Timmy be alight? What will become of Barry? Where is Principal Marsch? Where will this story take us next? Well. Honestly? I have already written the next several episodes. I know how things turn of with Timmy. You won’t want to miss what happens with Barry. And DearPrincipal Marsch? Well, My Dear Readers, you get to find that out, in next week’s episode!

.

My Dear Readers, the fun has just begun. I look forward to seeing you all, right here, next week! Until then?

.

Adieu!

.

Thank YOU!
